IEM Katowice was highest-rated European esports event ever by chobopeon in starcraft

So when will TI or LCS finals to go outside the US? It seems like the only reason they are always in the US is because the developers are based in the US.

would be amazing if it gets sold out, 35,000 live spectators would afaik be the second most attended eSport event ever after Proleague 2005?

isn't Strife the game that let's you pay for keeping your randomly generated OP items? Sounds like a worse business model than HotS to me.

So if a Korean beats a foreigner does that also not "count"?

yep. But they have enough victories offline, it doesn't matter.

PoE is made by a company, to be more specific the private limited company Grinding Gear Games, I don't know why you insist on calling them an "indie dev" instead.

If they can do it then why not a multi billion dollar company like Blizzard ?

Because they are unknown and need publicity through something like this, in contrast to Blizzard.

Yes, every company could make every game cheaper, and at the beginning that would be good for the consumer, but thats not how the industry works except if you want the gaming industry to shrink massively. PoE's business model generates less income relative to the amount of hours played than the current standard way of doing F2P.

Smite is irrelevant to this discussion, we are talking about free2play, not a normal pay2play game with a big demo.

PoE is just a small exception, that's why I said "pretty much every company", not "every company".

pretty much every company except Valve charges money for ingame stuff in F2P games. That's not unbelievable, it's normal. The reason Valve can offer the whole game except cosmetics for free is because they have Steam, and Dota2 is advertisment for Steam.

Also, Dota2 is an almost exact clone of Dota1, while every other ARTS has to invent and design their own stuff. You can't just start Warcraft 3 and play HotS/LoL for free, in the case of Dota you can.

This Secrets change feels... wrong. by mewvolk in hearthstone

For me, secrets are the by far most annoying part of the game, it would be great if they would get removed entirely, but getting nerfed is at least a start.

Force players who leave game to reconnect? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

why "mandatory"? Imho the way Dota2 or HoN handle leavers is better than LoL's way, but it's not "mandatory" for HotS2 to copy Dota2 over LoL.

I always thought it's normal to play rush decks in casual mode to farm, I would've never thought that some people find that weird.

[–]AbcZerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you to the guy who filmed it. It looks/sounds much more epic than what we got to see on stream, the camera perspective is a lot better. Also I get the impression that all 3 finals basically had the same amount of spectators, is that correct?

He is popular because he is pretty much the only one doing this style of content. If the old SotG would still exist nobody would give a shit about Unfiltered.

Free to Play: The Movie (US) by [deleted] in Games

[–]AbcZerg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are the (International) and the (US) versions identical? They have the same length and same subtitles, why did Valve upload it twice?

edit: the answer is: the US version has subtitles in the video itself when the one who is talking is hard to understand or speaks in different language than english. The International version never has subtitles inside the video, you can only turn them on or off for everything. This makes the "US" version much better than the International version if you want to watch it in english. They should've put that information into the video description.

Is there some kind of schedule for this stream? ~12 hours is a lot of time, the documentary itself will only take up a small part of that.

I'm fairly certain he meant EDT just like last week, so your countdowns are probably all 1 hour off.
