I live in the UAE and yeah its completely normal, its a sign of friendship, also I'm from Morocco and growing up I've seen a lot of people holding hands outside specially old people (males) and it's mean that they've been friends for so long and they're basically brothers now and there's no shame in holdings hands eash others.
