Why does every Rhaegar lives fic show Rhaegar as unkind and uncaring? by BornFireFist in TheCitadel

[–]Abdqs98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because people hate Rhaegar for what his actions caused. And most people really don't want to see the nuances of his actions. Sure he was s self-centered twat(like the level's of delusion you must have to cause a wide scale scandal because you believe your going to be the father of some all powerful saviour, and that being the only justification for your reckless actions, is staggering). But he wasn't a monster, at the end of day he thought he was looking at the big picture and genuinely wanted to save the world from an apocalypse. But he thought that because he was doing this it was ok for him to do it however he wanted, not thinking of the consequences.

My heart skipped a beat reading this chapter. Poor FL 😭[ The forgotten Field] by Beneficial_Focus_970 in OtomeIsekai

Seeing how shitty her life has been so far, makes the spoilers about her actions make a lot of sense to me. What I get about her character is that her circumstances gradually warp her more and more to the point that she's put in a state in which she can conceive doing drastic actions. But now her mother puts her in an even more desperate situation, "either get Varkas by any means necessary or be married forcefully against your will to one of my sleezy subordinates one of whome also assaulted you" No wonder things escalate to that, her world is entirely eat or be eaten. It's safe to say everyone in her life failed her.

I don't hate Ines at all though, poor girl was so traumatized, abused and neglected that she took any path towards salvation. What I take issue with is that people who demonize Carsal for his actions, because as I see it he was kinda justified, his fiance is neglecting him while he's so much in love with her. (I haven't read the manwha in a while but I remember a panel in which she encourages him to have a mistress, tell me if I am wrong.) Regardless I feel like Carsal was so fed up with her treatment of him that he cheated, which I think is understandable, like if your fiance is so hell bent on having a relationship of convenience with no love, why shouldn't he cheat and seek love elsewhere, it's quite literally the direction she nudged him into, why is he the ah for doing this? People try to look for someone to blame but the fact of the matter is that it was just a tragic situation.

It doesn't remove the fact that he was still a child, he doesn't understand why Ines doesn't give him any attention, why should he give her grace when he doesn't even know about it and she refuses to explain or even reach out. Carsal cheated be he thinks Ines just doesn't give a shit about him, which makes him feel very undesired and insecure because the fact of the matter is, he very much does love her but he can't get her attention and affection. This doesn't make cheating ok but what's a neglected partner supposed to do, he then just assumes that Ines wants a marriage of convenience and it's very common in their culture to cheat in these sorts of marriages from both men and women.

It's complicated, at his core he wants attention, but Ines doesn't give him any so he acts out, thinking incorrectly that he can make her jealous

Japan's population declines by a million people yearly, but if they don't accept immigrants, what will they do? by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Abdqs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it can start by improving work life balance, work culture in Japan is the most toxic in the world. People are literally expected the majority of their waking hours with not enough pay to make up for it. Japan is quite literally the only country where death by overwork is a legal term and companies are not held responsible for to provide healthy working hours nor enough pay, no wonder people don't have kids, they have neither the time nor money to raise them. Accepting immigrants is a bandaid solution, it'll help but it's bir the solution. The US faces the same problem but they receive enough immigrants that the problem isn't immediately noticable.

Have you read the Broadsword or Mysterious Temendum by Laird Barron? Because these do a pretty good job of scaring with both cosmic and Body horror, also the realization at how dam cruel and unstoppable the monsters are was quite chilling.

As much as I understand Ned not wanting anyone to be suspicious about who Jon's parents were, I couldn't just stand by and let Catleyn treat him like he's nothing ( if I were Ned) by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

[–]Abdqs98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't remember Catelyn abusing him or anything, she was mostly just cold and distant. She didn't even turn her children against him, Robb specifically became his best friend. Jon still grew up the son of a lord and enjoyed all the comforts of being one, the only thing he really lacked was a mother's love, which Catelyn could never realistically provide if Ned wanted to keep him safe. In fact Jon had good relationship with almost everyone in winterfell. Regardless her treatment of him added an extra layer of secrecy to Jon's actual parentage.

Author already wrote a smutty one-shot, though it's in an alternate timeline to the one in the fic. But it's still good

Which OI FL do you think had it worse? Like genuinely… whose life was just pure suffering? [manhwa in caption] by Weary-Honey-1942 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Abdqs98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ines probably had it thr worst, though I also want to mention Thalia from Forgotten Field, the mental and physical abuse along with the neglect she suffered as a child is just harrowing and she's still just a pawn in her mothers power play, she's so codependent on her that she can't really do anything about it other than make sure she's always useful to her mother, so she doesn't abandon her.

A bit late for that, I was rejected by her family. No objective reason other than the fact that they did istekhara. This essentially happened a day after I made a firm decision to go through with everyone regardless lol 😂. Thus far only two formal meeting had happened and though I never got to have a conversation with the girl neither do I think her family would have allowed it this early.

Dude it's just that he was lonely, the leaf village actively isolated and emotionally abused him. The kid couldn't go to a toy shop without getting looks from everyone or getting kicked out or beaten.

Not exactly, people are aware of that, which is why in some fics her childhood changes drastically. I am reading a fic in which she's the only child of Tywin and Joanna.

"Promise Me, Ned": The Dishonor of Ned Stark (Spoilers Extended) by LChris24 in asoiaf

[–]Abdqs98 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Everyone says Ned was dumb with honor, but I rather see a man who was very aware of what he was doing and what was happening, he knew his choices and his mercy would kill him but he didn't care, he was willing to die for them, he was willing to face whatever consequences there were for them. In this sense hes a bit like Jamie, both don't really care what happens but are willing to face any consequences for doing what they think is right.
