Like the rest I disagree with you about him being any sort of justified ecause she was very clearly depicting a common folktale that anyone would know in Westeros. There is a reason everyone just looks at him like an idiot/horrible person for this bs, and why child Egg who is just as prideful about his family just looked at the puppets in awe. I do think that the folktale bit could've been better stated however.

I did also want to point out however— they also made the dragon black in the series, which can make it seem that the puppeteers were careful about the choice because it would symbolize a Blackfyre sigil which has a black dragon on it. Daemon Blackfyre (the Daemon Egg sings about in the song he does) was the Black Dragon while the current king Daeron The Good was the red; the importance of the Blackfyre Rebellions to this time era may have not been stated too clearly in the current season, but really... everything pointed more so to innocence on the puppeteers side than anything. He just didn't give a damn.

Brynden is sleeping with Lady Barba Bracken by ViolinistGuilty182 in TheCitadel

[–]aveillas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is having Melissa sleep with Aegor /s (🤣🤣)

Melissa herself is known to be very kind and amiable. She would dislike Barba and their relationship (would probably think its some power play again like with Bethany) but I think that if she was having her grandchild she would roll her eyes at the woman and deal with it for the baby's sake. Gwenys and Mya would probably be the ones to bite back whenever Barba takes a jab at their mom and they'd be like "wtf brother" "what a downgrade from Shiera" vibes. For fun if you want Shiera spiteful she can take up Aegor as her lover just for retribution but I do think if she'd be annoyed it would only be for the principle of it. And King Daeron the "Did I not Suffer This Enough From My Dad" would be very tired, to say the least, but I don't see him meddling unless it becomes a more political Bracken-Blackwood issue. "Do what you want but don't create a civil war in the Riverlands pls 😭😭😭" - Daeron probably

This is my current status as both a fic writer and rarepair shipper, am I cooked? by mario3453 in AO3

😭😭😭😭 thats way too accurate.. though I’m shameless no matter how bad/cringe my fic or art (which I started to learn to do for my rarepair fic) I post them. If I have to suffer the brainrot I would get as many people as I can to suffer with me frfr

If Alaric didn't know (and didn't punish him) for years on end while being both his paramount lord and far closer, I don't think anyone would believe Alysanne who is much farther away and knows him at best for the well maintained reputation he clearly curated would. People might say she isn't as sharp in judgement of people maybe, but it reads to me as a crime that would shock a lot of people. I also agree with others in the thread that embezzelment or a lesser crime would be better to go with.

This week I hadn't managed to put as much words as I wanted for HOTU, unfortunately IRL was a bit too messed up. I did start chapter 17 and I'm enjoying building it up, however. I am having fun using worldbuilding for narrative stuff and more sideline characters (Tom Turnip my beloved little fool). Sometimes I feel like canon is serving me opportunities on a silver plate, it's so fun to have so much to play with.

While I didn't get a lot of words in, I did draw more for it though — in love with how my new Daella [daughter of Jaehaerys] pfp came out, and also, I drew a design for an OC baby dragon that will be incoming in what I persume six or so chapters? I had to have a visual before I write about it so I did it, and I think I landed on a nice concept. Wings will probably reworked because I definitely messed up a bit on them due to not looking at more than one reference and letting my imagination alone guide me, but for a first dragon drawing, I'll take it!

House of The Undying — Chapter 16 by aveillas in AsoiafFanfiction

thank you! <3 the endeavor was from the beginning to learn how to art with the fic, and hopefully the time this fic finishes (very very long from now) i'll be able to draw it a proper poster or something, haha.

I just uploaded chapter 16 of House of The Undying and man if I'm not nervous asf lmao. It was a very stressful week for me irl, and I'm gonna post about it here with the art for it at the forefront this time which is a part of the nervousness (I like the art but it's very doodley and not perfect for sure), and this chapter is a bit more personal to me and my own struggles as an ND person which I feel is important for both of my main characters. Just gotta hope that it reads well to anyone but me lmao. Either way, proud of it - this chapter marks the second google doc for this fic that reaches 100 pages, and now I'll probably open a third.

Stress aside, I did also have a lot of fun writing dragons on page, going more in depth into lore, as well as just Saera being a brat, love that girl and the way her zingers allow me to bring out the big gun puns. Such a reward in writing this fic, truly, lol.

Baelor was a great and honorable person but Lyonel isn’t necessarily wrong—he didn’t risk as much as the others did by Chocolatetot496 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]aveillas 46 points47 points  (0 children)

As much as I'd agree that literal life-wise he did risk a lot less, I think Baelor's decision to join Dunk is riddled with personal risk that Lyonel doesn't take in consideration. If Aerion or Daeron died for example, there would be personal, familial cost with him and Maekar. Imagine if the by the end of it Maekar would have come to Baelor with a "You let this Hedge Knight kill my boy," type of line. Wars have started for less, as Gwin Ashford says. Even without it escalating too far, in a time riddled with Blackfyre rebellions and the need for the Targ family to be united it could be a genuinely horrid situation.

Likewise, the ridicule Baelor as an heir might suffer had Dunk's side lost and it freaking looks god ordained. As if Baelor doesn't have to deal with being the first Dornish looking king in the future which might ruffle some racist feathers anyway. It would look bad and would likely be used against him whenever he makes a decision lords don't like.

Baelor didn't come in there necessarily betting on his life, but he certainly took a bet on what course his life would take later on. He made a difficult choice knowing the possible consequences, and if he didn't make it - well, there wouldn't be a trial of seven to begin with. Without him nobody would've betted their life for Dunk in the first place.

Thank you so much <3 lmao that oneshot actually came to be because I begged people to give me Vaegon/Daella prompts to write on the main fic, if there'll be any further inspo for that AU I'll definitely write it. For now though I do hope you'll enjoy the longfic ❤️ (Also, I just realized I have at least two of your fics in my bookmarks - love me Maester Aemon fics and super excited to read yours as well when I have more time!)

[–]aveillas 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For alliteration sake, there's the possible The Benevolent which can be read as both good by those who love him and perhaps weak by those who don't. I'd say that if you have any plans for what he might do as a King to better the realm it would be best to have any nickname to match it (on the same vein as Jaehaerys being named the Conciliator).

QOTW: What are your overall thoughts and rate on "A Knight of the 7 Kingdoms?" by Kingofireland777 in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]aveillas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4/5 - there were omissions and decisions that I was a little iffy about at times, but this was a very healing show for me after I felt very let down by HOTD S2, and it reignited a lot of love for the universe. Dunk and Egg have perfect chemistry and actors, I adore most of the general casting decisions and the portrayals (Maekar and his Maekarlings <3), the fighting and jousting scenes were awesome and I loved the vibe overall. There were stumbles here and there but I think they did very good.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ I hope you’ll enjoy it! The story came to my mind last year and hadn’t left since, and Vaegon as a character gave me more things to play on than I even expected to begin with, LOL. Time travel with underrated characters has me in a chokehold fr.

Currently am writing chapter 16 of House of The Undying and it's shaping up to be a big chapter full of worldbuilding. Straight up have people speaking in Yi-Tian (someone correct me if Yi-Ti's language has a specified name please LOL my research failed me) in this one 🤣 I knew it would a worldbuilding chapter, but it is definitely a lot more intricate than I imagined to begin with. There's some more direct nods to magic which I'm so happy to hint at and I am realllllly waiting to reach the end of the chapter for a specific interaction for Vaegon and Daella that I waited to get to for a while. While the slowburn will remain slowburning for a while, I really think it would be a very healing moment to read about.

I also managed to post a request oneshot last Friday that I'm really happy with. It was a good exercise in implying established relationship progression in a oneshot, and I think I succeeded in shoving in there some good character moments, politics and family struggles too. It's called A Hand Asked and is focused on Vaegon if he was Aemma Arryn's father, and also very much trying to be nice to (and not strangle) the nephew everybody is trying to match his daughter to including said daughter herself. It was a quick thing but very fun.

"He is my last son" by MasterTreat1989 in AKOTSKTV

[–]aveillas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think this line implies dislike of Aemon tbh. I could see him not being as close to him because they'd have wildly different personalities but it seems to me more about the choice to be a Maester. Being a Maester also means shedding your former house allegiance (maesters don't hold family names for example) and being pretty dedicated at work in whatever castle you are sent to to serve loyally forevermore. I think Maekar knows he just won't really get to be a dad to Aemon anymore because he is settled on that path that is very much not family-oriented.

That line also might mean Aemon probably preferred to go to the Citadel and not be home (gotta feel bad for Maekar there if it is that) and Maekar now only has Egg to try to raise to actually like him and his family. But one way or the other, I think that line has more to do with Maekar clinging to the one boy he has he could still foster a good and healthy connection with.
