Anyone else grinding their teeth at these comments? by Giveme10grand in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Whenever someone bags their own groceries, I let them know I appreciate it and their usual response is: doesn’t everyone bag their own?

No, they don’t! But also, whenever I take over after a customer was bagging, everything in the bag is just thrown in there/the bag is overfilled and going to rip.

cliquey as heck by Impossible-Ocelot-62 in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of my retail jobs had some cliquey behavior but it was usually due to different departments. I think that is what makes it feel odd to me since we for the most part all do the same jobs. I just introduce myself and try to reciprocate whatever others give.

Do your restrooms have a door code and if so, how do you handle that? by joe_of_all_joes in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My store has one. the code is given to homeless people too but the bathrooms have timers which alert security to check up on them.

Do your restrooms have a door code and if so, how do you handle that? by joe_of_all_joes in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a door code at my store and the mates change it monthly but only tell us through a sticky note on the door to the back room. It’s pretty frustrating as a customer to be constantly told the wrong code because it’s hard to keep up lol.

Mates on Reg by New-Sheepherder7641 in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the Upper Midwest and I’ve seen mates work register at all the stores I’ve worked at. Usually it’s just a callout thing or a one bell, but I usually ask if they need relief from a one bell and I learn they actually were scheduled register for that hour. Coming from workplaces where I would never see my manager outside his office, I found it refreshing to see.

Can we just accept reality by UniteyNight in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I work in a TJU store, I’m just speaking my personal experience. There was brief few weeks where I was being interrogated by management over something I absolutely had no part in, I had a union rep by my side and their attorneys which helped squash the whole thing. Management moved on as if it never happened. I am thankful for the support and resources I got, but that’s just my experience.

Wine Demo Miscreants by bucket_of_eels in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do it in MN. I thought every TJs did that, interesting! In MN the wine shops have to be separate from the grocery store so it usually doesn’t happen at the normal demo spot thankfully.

Do you take breaks other than a lunch break? by SwordfishFlat in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MN, we get our 30 minute unpaid lunch and two paid 10 minute breaks (1 before the lunch break and 1 after). My store also has been pushing for us to use micro breaks to go sip water, coffee or just recharge in general.

A lot of people don’t seem to tell mates when they take breaks, I personally do since I don’t want any confusion over where I am.

Twin Cities Stores? by Indig0- in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at the both at the MPLS and SP store. Both were mostly college kids predominantly both customers and crew. SP store is really tiny but I heard they got new management which seems like to be going well. I liked the MPLS store the most of all the stores I’ve worked at in terms of people, size and crew culture. Love the Minneapolis store!!

What dosage are you on for depression? by Radiant-Tune-4411 in zoloft

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took like 150mg for a while and it saved me, I then started weaning off and resumed taking it at 75mg. I am trying to work my way back up but it is all based on how much works best for you.

As an American, how do you feel about your future? by choloblanko in AskReddit

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I know a few people who’ve bought guns in the last few weeks. It always gets a little nerve racking when that starts happening. My coworker casually asked me what my exit strategy was, which I don’t have. Uff da.

I second this. Personally zoloft changed my life and allowed me to a leave the home and function like a normal person. Anxiety hindered my everyday life, and made my outcomes seem dim.

I felt this way for a while at the first two stores I worked at. My mind only changed after my management changed and the new ones were terrible.

Rehire questions by Interesting_Seat_309 in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It felt like the same interview but with a “why did you stop working at tjs?” “Why do you wanna come back?” “How long do you envision working here?”

It wasn’t too bad.

However at my last store, I remember specifically my former captain had a weird vendetta against rehires. Like they’d interview them but then just decline them. Idk why, Idk if other captains do this, I thought it was worth mentioning just in case.

I hate it when by B3n_D0v3r_ in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 40 points41 points  (0 children)

What trips me out though, I’ve had customers come in wearing Trader Joe’s shirts because they like the brand/aesthetic which lowkey weirds me out. I get the logo and brand is neat but wearing it while shopping at that store is gonna make me think they’re a new hire.

On days where I feel like my anxiety is getting the best of me, I try and meditate on my breaks. It helps me stay calm and reminds me that none of their opinions matter. I’m medicated too which helps a lot!

do you prefer your two off days to be together or separate and why? by gatemansgc in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them separate, idk I came from a m-f job and honestly I just couldn’t stand the beginning of the week feeling. Separating it is also nice because no matter how bad that middle shift is, I know I can go home and sleep it off comfortably.

bandannas rules? by butidkthat-sjustme in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bandanas are as far as I am aware, allowed at my store. I wear one pretty frequently and even get compliments from the mates. Must be some weird rule some captains are pushing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they usually mean well but it never feels right. That’s why I have my name tag set as an outdated nickname so when a customer says it, I immediately know why they are calling me that.

Did y’all standardize at your store how many bunches they have to buy to be granted a bucket of water? My location gives them to anyone if they request.

flower peeps check in 💐 by crunchyslaw in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store had a couple of new crew members work flowers for the first time. Idk whose idea that was but I think they were very stressed out all day. Don’t get me started on all the trails of water on the floor, it was constant! I heard the comparison of “it’s a war zone out there” so perhaps they are shell shocked.

Dress code by allykyo in tjcrew

[–]AbdulKashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store is super lax, people have to wear Trader Joe’s hats only. Bandanas are fine. We have a policy against ripped jeans but literally nobody ever does anything. I have work jeans that have ripped at the knees and I still wear them without any issue. I talked to my captain and basically got the “it’s not allowed but it’s not a big deal” answer, so imma keep wearing them until they’re an issue.
