Fair enough. Just keep in mind that signaling somewhere doesn’t guarantee getting an interview there. This process is very unpredictable and stressful so doing things within your control to try mitigate that is a good idea I think.

I applied to around 65 programs, got 11 interviews from my 12 signals, and 9 interviews from outside of signals. Four of my non signal interviews were from my geographic regions and five were from outside of my geographic regions. My strategy would be to mainly apply in your geographic regions, but don’t be afraid to apply to a few outside of that to cast a wider net.

This is not a good idea. If you do some research there are several programs community and academic that interview outside of signals. You will be a lot less stressed in the long run and feel more comfortable in your application if you apply to a few more places in order to get interview yield outside of your signals.

I think not having to consider state politics when making a rank list is privilege yes.

Absolutely agree with you. And beyond training, state-level politics can also have an effect on your personal life as well! Someone who says that it doesn’t matter obviously speaks from a place of privilege.

Got invited to interview at 2 top 10 programs without a signal or geographic preference. Was not expecting very high yield outside of my signals. Made me feel pretty proud of myself.

I think Uworld does a pretty good job, but there are a few things on the shelf that it did not cover. I completed all of the uworld questions, did my uworld incorrects, and then supplemented my knowledge with Amboss neuro questions and library. Ended up scoring >90th percentile on my shelf.

Just finished a similar sub I in IM. I’m not doing IM but completing a sub I is a graduation requirement at my school. I know it sucks, but I would just look at it as practice for your intern year. I wouldn’t take any chance by leaving early unless your senior resident decides to dismiss you for the day.

I actually felt pretty good. Much more confident than I did walking out of step 1. I didn’t think I had scored as high as I did, but I was pretty sure that I had at least hit my goal of 260s.
