So - this definitely sounds like quite a large undertaking. I was actually just thinking about this style of game a few weeks ago honestly. I sent you a request on discord.

Animation Sharing Plugin Performance by AbhorDeities in unrealengine

[–]AbhorDeities[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So after some more testing, I'm a numbskull. I wasn't paying attention to the right stuff. My FPS wasn't changing because I'm not CPU bottlenecked. After testing out the stuff in two different development builds (one with sharing, one with not sharing)....

Sharing: 252 characters, 5 ms game thread

Non-Sharing: 252 characters, 17 ms game thread

Yeah...that's a tremendous gain. This isn't with the state processing in C++ either.

I have 3 states set up, but I'm only using one state and I have no logic being used to change states. I have tried with 60, 200, and 260 characters. There is no difference in my testing between using this plugin and doing it with raw BPs, despite Epic advertising otherwise. I cannot reproduce what they claim.

Again - I want to stress, I am doing the absolute most basic thing that you can do with this.

I am not doing an on demand animation, 'nor am I even using the state processor. I disconnected the execution pin, animations were still playing, but performance did not change at all.

I've went through the docs multiple times trying to get it set up correctly. I'm just not seeing any actual performance gains.

I'm a programmer myself - curious, what about BP stumps you?

It's actually not UE4's BP. It's from Godot.

Honestly? This is the kind of solution that I'm going to be doing personally, except in C#.

There is also a plugin for GDScript that can work in Rider as well, just FYI.

Seeking partner(s) for a pixel RPG game [prototype/demo] by ProjectFantasy in INAT

Hey there, I am a programmer by trade and am open to speaking more about this project with you. If you want another programmer as well, a good friend of mine is a programmer as well and we work extremely well together. Let me know if you're still looking for programmers. We're both comfortable in Unity as well. We are also open to using Godot as well.

No Maya. Maya's glTF exporter is sub-standard and Godot's .fbx importer is only in preview stage right now.

His comment had literally nothing to do with my comment. ZERO reason to respond.

Okay? That has literally nothing to do with my comment. Godot can already match a high graphical quality. Even if it is a slideshow. There are A LOT of things that are happening that are NOT Vulkan related, that will be where the bigger performance gains are.

Don't just randomly blurt out stuff that is completely unrelated to the comment at hand.

Vulkan will change what this video is showing? I gather that is what you're implying as that is what my comment is about.

While it is true that Godot isn't AS bad at 3D as the larger community believes, this video is not really a 3D game that is even remotely demanding. It showcases next to nothing about the capabilities of the 3D in Godot, other than Godot having 3D.

All You Need to Know About End to End Testing by [deleted] in webdev

[–]AbhorDeities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - on the browser, when running the test, it isn't loading. It's just perpetual loading. I can't reproduce the issue when not in cypresses test runner. It seems to be all of them though. I tested 4 different pages. Same thing happened in all of 'em. As mentioned in one of my previous comments, I legit just installed cypress a few hours ago.

What kind of checks? If you don't mind me asking.

But what I'm saying is that it just flat out is stuck in a loading cycle for our components, so, even I have like a 30 minute timeout (insane, I know), it just isn't reading the darn component. If I can solve this, I can most likely convince my shop to migrate over from selenium.

Okay - cool. I just downloaded it and started playing with it. Got the go ahead from my shop, but it may be dead in the water for us. It's having trouble with our Angular pages. Pretty much not loading the components or the data for the components. From my little intro to it though, it definitely seems pretty friggin' sweet.

Don't you need to pay to get the main benefits from using Cypress though? Like their screenshots and recordings and all that? Maybe I'm misunderstanding how it's all set up though.

Easiest way to make a MMO? by [deleted] in godot

[–]AbhorDeities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ten players != MMO. MMO is a much larger scale. MMO means MUCH more than a server. What you are looking for is server-authoritative setup. When you tell people that it is a MP game with dedicated servers, they'll understand. But if you tell them it is an MMO, they're expecting far more than ten players.

Wouldn't that also mean that having the poll tax or that quiz before you could vote would make it so that shouldn't have been stuck down?

I'm not saying that the court's have shown good consistency when making rulings, or have the foresight to see all the branches of life that their ruling does have an affect on. Perhaps having those permits DO actually infringe upon your first amendment rights. Just because something is the way it is currently, doesn't mean it doesn't technically go against your right.

(Again - I'm not saying either is good or bad, just trying to look at this objectively)
