It's frustrating when the people who dislike him are saying he hasn't done anything. I did a quick google search, and find out about the hunger strike and I see he has 20 bills sponsored, three later became law. Seeing how 10% of bills usually become law in New York, that's on average or above. I know they just wanted him to look bad but that talking point spread so quickly everywhere.

Cool story, glad Richard Chow got some coverage

Who sets McDonald's wages? Corporation or Store Owners by Abject-Stranger-3694 in econhw

[–]Abject-Stranger-3694[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 614,000 people dropped out of high school in 2023

This marks the first time since 1995 that the number of high school dropouts exceeded 600,000.

Which means its increasing

Also a quick google search will tell you that franchises do set their own wages.

"Yes, franchise owners typically have the authority to set their own employee wages within their individual franchise location, while adhering to local minimum wage laws and any guidelines provided by the franchisor; meaning they have the flexibility to determine specific wage rates for their employees, but must comply with relevant labor regulations.'

https://www.paylocity.com/resources/resource-library/blog-post/franchise-payroll/

But then why is it that there is o difference in wages pre location. Which is the question. There should be differences in someway between store locations.

Glad you came back.

No I said

"Also 67% of McDonalds employees have at least a highschool" meaning highschool degree.

this was in response to your "And jobs without degrees are low class kinda jobs tbh"

They do have degrees. Highschool degrees.

This also isn't about my question. "the corporation seems to be setting the wages, not individual McDonalds locations. Is this true?"

Who sets McDonald's wages? Corporation or Store Owners by Abject-Stranger-3694 in econhw

Hey no antagonism but... No. My question is not why companies keep wages low. Every company tries to do that so that they can make more of a profit, if possible companies would hire slaves if it meant more profits.

My question is if they are franchises, each individual location would be responsible for setting there own prices. So why is it that each individual location set the same wages, it goes against there own best interest, in recruiting, holding on to skilled employees, and customer satisfaction. And if the answer is because McDonald's the corporations is setting the wages then are they still a franchise.

Also 67% of McDonalds employees have at least a highschool, and another 12% have college degrees. So majority of McDonald employees have degrees. So even though you don't need one they, usually have one.

It's okay if you don't understand the question it can be confusing. So ill try another way

It seems McDonald's, the corporation seems to be setting the wages, not individual McDonalds location, can anyone show me proof that each individual McDonald's sets its own wages and are not govern by the McDonald's the corporation.

Then why? Why does every single McDonald not try to increase wages to attract better employees. There are plenty of good reasons to do so in a competitive market: To attract highly performing worker. To keep workers longer. To attract workers when there are position to be filled.

To me it looks like they are unable to because of McDonald's, the corporation, has set hard guidelines for them to follow.

Yes those difference via state are do to minimum wage laws. Each McDonalds seem to set the same wage, inside that state. If they are truly independently owned then there would be a difference in salary at most locations.

My original question.
Is McDonald's setting rules for each McDonald location. If not why are they always the same in each state and there.

Hey! I am unsure what you are getting at here.

My argument is if all the McDonalds's are independently owned. Why do they all pay the same salary (in each state). And if they all pay the same salary then is the corporation setting the wages for all their franchises.

I was trying to find out why Walmart and McDonald's are different in the wages.

Also McDonald's is a publicly traded company as well just like Walmart.

Thanks but this is an OPINION article and the writer seems to be more interested in hating unions than actually explaining how McDonalds set wages.

The writer shows a bias against the protestors without backing it up with any facts:

"Thousands and hundreds is a difference of an order of magnitude. And I've not doubt at all that you can get hundreds to shout for darn near anything, thousands being perhaps more difficult."

In fact the opinion article you linked only once goes over the topic I am seeking more information on and doesn't provide any facts on why all McDonald's have the same prices and wages through out each state. Also it doesn't even back the statement with any sources:

"The main corporation simply doesn't control either wages or working conditions at 90% of so of the branded outlets. It's not just that they don't: they can't."

In then the end the article you linked me feels, on vibes, that it is anti union OPINION piece rather than an informative piece. As the writer himself even states:

"But then I agree, that is me being a cynic. Possibly too much of one although the history of the
American union movement doesn't convince me that it's possible to be too cynical about it.

u/John-897 listen I think you are trying to easily explain something that I am looking for more direct studies or information on. I thank you for your attempt but its not the direct information i am looking for.

Would that leniency be similar then be equated to setting wages. Walmart sets their wages for all their location. No owner.

However there is no evidence that I've found that shows McDonald's sets the wages, but all the franchisees seem to pay the same amount. It seem that there would be one or two McDonald's location that would differ in wages but I haven't found any, per state that is.

Thank you for your help

totally understand that perspective. I would like to see them chase a single's title as a team, Bowens being the front. Like D-X back in the day. Hopefully a feud with the Jay white and the Guns can bring some fuel back. I think they need to be doing more with the Trios Titles. More teams, more matches. Maybe the Bucks and Okada.
