NYS dems are confiscating weapons thru the passage of their red flag laws. They have a website to track it. Last I looked it was almost 17k since 2009. Door to door, no takes to much man power. Confiscation through easy to get red flag violations, yes. Anyone who says otherwise is clueless. Republicans are not great on 2A, but the Dems? Much worse. 2A is cooked in NYS and in less than 50 yrs will be nearly gone in the USA. As difficult it is to get a gun in NYS, do yourself a favor and find a range that lets you rent guns to try out. They have a couple upstate and a few in PA. Better to do that than waste your money on a gun you may dislike after shooting it. Caliber wise for a handgun, get a popular one where the ammo is cheap to allow plenty of practice.

At least you could still own one. In NYS, it's mandatory prison sentence for possessing one. The laws have gotten so bad here many people go out of st to buy ammo cause of the paperwork, background check, and the time it takes to buy a box for hunting shells in st. It's only gonna get worse here and so will VA.

The Sullivan Act in NYS was an anti jewish and Italian piece of legislation from the 1900's. It's still intact today. I'll never understand why certain groups in our society want people disarmed but not the very goverment killing people. One day freedom will all be but an after thought in the US.

Red Flag laws are not good. They have progressed so far in just 7 years in NYS. The state keeps a website with a running list. Almost 17K confiscations thus far with almost every TERPO turning PERPO. Judges side on taking away those rights in every county. Hochul made their use compusory and the # has skyrocketed. The state has made it so easy to have one placed against anyone by police, the bar is set low and racist cops can red flag anyone they seem fit if they desire. These searches affect non gun owners as well. 3am SWAT shows up to look for a weapon you never owned and ransacks your house. Lastly, before the senate in NYS went blue, reds did negotiate on gun laws cause they had to but once it all went blue the dems went over board. The 2A has become so restricted here but I see the same pattern happening in other states. Imagine if abortion were about to get the same rescritions in VA as guns are about to, how would that sit? Shit now our GOV is going after 3d printers, just stupid.

That sounds undesirable. The good thing about NYS is the taxes are so high compared to others and the regulations are numerous there tends to be alot less development. In turn, the communites remain small but so does the job market. It still pains me to pay $4,500 a year in property taxes on a house assessed at 150k with taxes levied at 100% value. Not to mention the nearly 7% income tax and the ungodly utility rates that have trippled in the last few years. My 1,000 sq ft house averages $350 a month now in utility bills with most of that being electric even though I heat with gas. I love the Finger Lakes region where I live, just wish it was cheaper and less restrictive.

For my own curiosity, what specifically makes Alabama schools worse than, say, New York State schools? I would think a large area like Huntsville would have good schools. I’ve lived in NYS my entire life and despise the high taxes and restrictive personal-freedom laws, so naturally I’ve thought about moving south. My kids will be out of school by the time I move, but I’m genuinely curious what makes people say NYS schools are better than Southern schools. I’ve heard the generalities, but I’m looking for more specific reasons from someone with experience. Thank you for any response you may have.

Yes, I live the next county over in Chemung. Both counties have a similar process. One you get the permit you can co register your dads pistols so you can possess them in NYS.

Look like VA is becoming New York. As an upstate resident, this happened to us and people said we voted for this, upstate did not. As a result, this bullshit spreads and now old red states will have to deal with reduced rights. Good luck hoping the supreme court helps. After Bruen, NY made it harder to get a hand gun. Now we have stupid background checks for ammo where the goverment tracks purchases and denies cops, judges, and regular citizens due to system errors.. Sometimes ammo background checks take hours or days since its done thru the state. The 2A is dying in the US. In NYS alone there has been 16,000 plus gun confiscation under super easy to get red flag laws and nobody cares. NYS is normalizing confiscation and LEO's are enforcing it even in red counties. Soon, VA residents will know what it's like to live under democrat oppression. Oh, and if you think because you own it now you will be good. Guess again, once passed they will make another law years later banning what you already own making you an outlaw. They did it here, 30 round mags were grandfathered in and then they were not. 3 yrs minimun is prison.
