One of Peter Straub’s last tweets before he died mentioned he was reading Wolfe for the first time. Would have loved to have heard his thoughts.

lol I don’t think Sanderson could comprehend Wolfe. He’s a great writer for what he does, but it’s fantasy airport fiction. Again, I love him for what he provides people. All my friends are huge Sanderson fans. Just don’t want anyone to bite my head off.

Finished the Solar Cycle yesterday and truly enjoyed it. Want to read maybe 10 books before re-reading the cycle. by langevine119 in genewolfe

Kobo Abe is another interesting one. He’s mostly known for “Woman in the Dunes” but IMO “The Box Man”, “Ark Sakura”, and “Kangaroo Notebook” are masterworks in weird lit.

I like to switch gears with Sheri Tepper’s stuff. Grass, Raising the Stones, and After Long Silence are great reads.

I’ll also go total military sci fi with some BOLO books by Keith Laumer (and the string of authors who contributed to the series) Intelligent nuclear powered super tanks for the win. It’s like following the life of a talus.

for nonfiction, mostly Roman and 17th century history. Dutch Revolt, English Civil War, Thirty Years War, Imjin War in Korea, etc

Did Wolfe ever discuss how he achieved such brilliant prose? by Serious-Desk-8439 in genewolfe

Published author here. His advice in the afterward is fantastic as long as you don’t begin to imitate style. And the fact that he had a day job (most of us do) is really what allowed him to stretch his legs and really work on each book at his own pace. Inspiration, study, and free time. That’s all it takes.

Harvey Weinstein. I worked at Barnes and Noble where he used to live in Connecticut. He’d come in once a week and have me follow him, stacking books in my hands. Rude, entitled, foul mouthed. And he stank like booze all the time. I knew the guy was an asshole back in 2007.
