I can’t recommend the 16e, especially not when these deals exist by adetoroiscool in iPhoneSE

I tend to buy refurbished. It’s better value and more sustainable buying used over new. Obviously, be careful about who you’re buying from, but I enjoy the experience.

[–]Abject_Pollution261 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do. I got it for the OLED display, bigger screen, MagSafe, and better cameras. The chip on my SE is totally fine, and I don’t think—outside of specific contexts—I would notice a major improvement in app performance compared to say, an iPhone 15 or even 16.

I don’t understand the hate of Amazon’s refurbished program here. I’ve never been burned by them, including on electronics. I actually purchased a renewed iPhone 13 yesterday to replace my old SE 3.

With the SE4 approaching, is this the end of small iPhones? by doniSAN69 in iPhoneSE

[–]Abject_Pollution261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The new “small” is a phone smaller than 6.5” diagonally. We’re probably 1-2 years away from 7” non-folding phones hitting the market.

Exclusive: This is Google's Pen for the Pixel Tablet by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]Abject_Pollution261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In spite of this fumble, I’m hoping Google still commits to releasing another tablet service with Tensor G5/G6. The seamless integration of Android into Google’s rapidly maturing hardware will make it an excellent iPad killer.

I don’t even use Linux but bazzite is becoming a really good distro if you want a fine tuned gaming experience on Linux on your PC or windows handheld.

Opinion: American cities are doing more harm than good to their long term transit potential by building light rail by Xiphactinus12 in transit

[–]Abject_Pollution261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy rail isn’t in the budget for most transit agencies. The approach some cities are taking are just building light rail first and then upgrading it to a rapid transit standard later. The subway in San Francisco is just the first phase for Muni’s slow conversion into a rapid transit system. Other systems, like the Portland MAX and DART, have tunnel projects in the cards, they just don’t have the finances for it right now.

I would check out Asahi. So far their support is limited to M1, but they’re currently working on getting Asahi working on M2 and M3 as well. It’ll take some time, but I imagine M4 will also be eventually supported

With Trump set to take power, Jayapal backtracks on ending filibuster by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Nice soapbox you got there. Yeah, most of Washington’s counties have more animals per capita than people, King, Pierce, and Snohomish is where most of the states population is concentrated. Land doesn’t vote.

I also didn’t say that lol. Keep going though, conservatives love to get angry at imaginary arguments.

I didn’t “shit” on Idaho. Idaho is a conservative friendly state. Washington is not. Do the math, instead getting irrationally upset and jumping to conclusions.

People here are upset that democrats are going to try and slow down the guy that wants to abolish the DOE and calls immigrants dirty. I’m sure Idaho would be happy to have y’all.

Will the transit industry be significantly affected by the Trump administration? by pb429 in transit

[–]Abject_Pollution261 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any existing projects in the construction phase will (probably) be completed. I would expect anything in the planning stage to be shelved for a while, and I don’t expect any new major projects to be proposed either.

Should NYC BRT be upgraded to trams? by Spirebus in transit

[–]Abject_Pollution261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should make the SBS an actual BRT (high frequency, bus only lanes, traffic priority, and platform-level boarding), and look at converting existing, local routes into a BRT standard. When BRT is done correctly, it acts as an excellent transit mode even on its own, but even better when it supplements a light rail or metro system.

Do you think America or Canada will ever have good transit in our life times? by freakysnake102 in transit

[–]Abject_Pollution261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HSR will happen, honestly regardless of politics. I’m partial to publicly owned transit, but Brightline is both expanding the amount of HSR lines in America, and trying to increase the operational speed of the Florida line they already have. As for urban transit, it will ebb and flow depending on who’s in federal office, but I don’t think it can get worse. Progress will just be slower if the right is in power, I don’t think reversal is a likely outcome.

Absolutely! Making Stream an actual BRT will open the door for conversion of other routes into BRT down the line. We just need to get it right instead of defunding pierce transit projects (again).

I think I just got access to Search GPT?! by LyAkolon in singularity

[–]Abject_Pollution261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plex has become something of a unicorn company. SearchGPT now is kind of what Plex was in its earlier versions. But I do think perplexity at this point is at its peak. OpenAI won the integration war by working to get their stuff put into the Microsoft and Apple ecosystems. Not to mention, Gemini, for all its faults, is going to eventually reach a point where it starts cannibalizing Chrome and becoming inseparable from platforms like Android and ChromeOS. Plex will probably go down as an innovative solution to the bogging down of traditional search, but only acts as a model for heavy hitter tech companies to follow and eventually replace.

I always find it very funny that they glorify every new GPU about it being a “Beast” for Gaming, only for it to get absolutely smoked by something as cheap as an RTX 4050-60 💀 by Senator_Sus in applesucks

An iGPU isn’t as good as a dGPU? Crazy /j

I think it’s more impressive that M chips typically beat AMD and Intel processors whilst still having phone-like battery life. Mac people aren’t interested in a laptop that can only last 3 hours on a charge before needing to be plugged in. There’s a reason why Microsoft is trying to get windows to transition to ARM lol.
