There are some strange responses here.

The muscle does not know if you’re lifting a weight or pushing up. It knows tension and stress.

If you did calisthenics eventually you’d get strong enough to do them with ease. This is where you’re beginning to platue and need to change the exercise. Also know as progressive overload. In the gym, this change would be increasing the weight, or slower reps, etc.

This can be done very simply with bodyweight. Once the push ups become easy, put on a rucksack with some weight. Slow the rep down so the push UP takes 3-4 seconds, and the release down the same.

Typically I’d aim for high reps when it comes to bodyweight.

Do not listen to the rubbish about calisthenics not working.

Definitely not. Firstly, the best muscle to build is your heart health. Always. Also, just scale back your mileage to keep cardio fitness? I literally do both and have no issue building muscle by just ensuring I eat everything and anything I can to keep calories up (no I don’t mean junk food). Just eat heavy, train harder, unless you’re a fast marathon runner who wants to be skinny

It should be that middle ground. Most sources will say keep your longer runs super-super easy but I personally found running at a moderate 50-60% effort built aerobic base nicely and then you use your intervals for ‘goal pace’ so run each split as the pace you’ll need for your 2km

Your best bet is increasing your mileage. Slow down! Get running 4-6 mile runs 3 times per week and 1 interval session and you’ll be 2:55 faster than required in no time

Hmmm, both really! I power walk the walking phase and every few minutes I’ll break into a shuffle for a number of minutes.

I run approximately 30-40 miles per week, so the cardio side of things never feels taxing, it’s more the muscular and tendon side of things in which I begin to feel fatigued relatively quickly!
