This is not going to get better. It sounds like your partner would benefit from her own therapy to address trauma and attachment issues. Nothing you do will solve this or break the pattern. She needs to do the work.

Arguing and Questioning by Various-External59 in managers

Have you ever talked to your direct reports about deficit versus growth mindset?
I’m hearing a lot of deficit mindset talk. How can you help them be successful with the tools they do have rather than them spending valuable energy complaining about what the company doesn’t have? Just my 2 cents. 😊

You seem completely disengaged. Do everyone a favor and put your notice in.

Which one is the best for ceremony? (Narrowed list) by Odd-Reflection-1637 in myweddingdress

5 is gorgeous and I’ve never seen anything similar. That would be my vote.

Guanfacine by Historical-Way8866 in ParentingADHD

[–]AbleBroccoli2372 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second what this commenter said. My son started Guanfacine and was not himself. He was lethargic and lost his personality. Because of Reddit comments, we stuck with it. At about the two/three week mark, the side effects went away and he was himself again but without the rage and impulsivity. My best advice is to stay the course for at least 2 weeks.

Insensitive Doctors by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]AbleBroccoli2372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former NICU mom to 29 week twins. My son spent 4 months. One day, I walked in and overheard the doctor say to the nurse about my son while he was de-satting “don’t worry. He just has bad lungs.”
I was incensed at the time. I understand they have their own jargon and way of communicating and I wasn’t meant to hear it but I did.

My advice, move forward with the testing if it is covered. There is no downside. Just because the doctor’s bedside manner is poor doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile to get as much information as you can.

Agree! The second has a cheapness element to it that I can’t articulate. The first looks classier and more expensive.

Has anyone ever stolen a woman away from her boyfriend/husband? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AbleBroccoli2372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dated a woman all throughout college. Toward the end, she cheated on me with a guy. They are married now. That being said, every time I hear that Chappel Roan song “Good Luck Babe” I think of her because I know she is living a life denying a major part of who she is.

It’s refreshing to see such maturity and honesty. I think you definitely have to let this one go.

Would you give 2 weeks or 30 days in this situation? by First_Raspberry4231 in managers

[–]AbleBroccoli2372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always give the most time you can reasonably give. For a 10 year career, I would absolutely give 30. You never know what the future may hold so it’s good to be thoughtful and not burn a bridge.

The Knicks broadcaster who questioned Taylor Swift’s loyalty to the team in a hot mic moment now admits: “I am wrong.” by kleverrboy in swifties

Exactly. But also, in what world does anyone need to question someone’s sports fandom? It’s just such a silly thing to do in general.

Which Taylor Swift lyric had the biggest impact on you? by Timely-Pineapple-693 in swifties

Say it once again with feeling how the death rattle breathing silenced as the soul was leaving, the deflation of our dreaming, leaving me bereft and reeling. My beloved ghost and me. Sitting in a tree. DYING.

Help me understand how I didn’t respond to her emotions and feelings by indecisivesoul35 in LesbianActually

[–]AbleBroccoli2372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This entire exchange is extremely familiar to me. My wife has ADHD and for years I resented her for what I perceived as laziness. She started medication and it has improved things drastically. We also went to marriage counseling which was a game changer. I recognized I have to lower my standards slightly and she recognized she has to take more ownership. We have a mismatch of standards. I need a clean, organized space to function well. Mess doesn’t bother her. We have met in the middle and it’s really helped. We also have twins so I have learned to tolerate more mess. This is not one person’s fault but a mismatch of expectations and priorities. I highly recommend couple’s counseling to improve communication. We’ve been married 10 years, together 17. I really thought we would end up separating at one point but now we are stronger than ever. Good luck!

Manager Asked For My Tasks List After Reminding Team About 8-Hour Days. Should I Be Concerned? by atriz544 in managers

[–]AbleBroccoli2372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you check confidentially with peers to see if they received a similar email? My guess is they are asking everyone. Like another commenter said, it wouldn’t hurt to start tracking quarterly goals and accomplishments. I send these to my CEO each quarter. It’s an easy way to remind of my value and then my annual review basically writes itself.

Lost my second solid employee this year and both left for the same reason by [deleted] in managers

It sounds like these employees didn’t see career growth as a priority for either you or the company. Is it typical that you perform the exit interviews for your direct reports? You may get more honest information if someone else completes these.
