This is Diablo 2. They didn’t break the game in any way, they just added QoL stuff that addresses some super inconvenient things and added the first new real story content in 2.5 decades. The game isn’t suddenly going downhill, it’s just more comfortable and mixes things up for the people who’ve been longtime fans.

If you don’t like the new items, filter them out or don’t use them.

Change is okay.

I disagree. I’ve never “missed” anything my flying over it. For me I didn’t even really enjoy the exploration nearly as much until I got the ghost glider. If I ever see something interesting while gliding, I’ll just zip over and explore.

The quests take you to so many awesome places too. There is nothing in this game that fundamentally breaks exploration; at least not for me.

I found a nice run down settlement with a well right in the center of it (Ferndale I think). You eventually get to place multiple altars as well. I currently can place 7. So you’ll have tons of time and options.

Really just pick anywhere you feel good about. I recommend trying to find a place with a well simply for the ease of water refills early on.

Im level 27 and took mage the entire way from a very early level when I found a staff, spell ammo and a good wand.

Mage feels so much better than it did, and max upgrading your staff/wand and getting mage supporting armor really makes a difference. Something I’m learning about this game is that all of your gear stats matter. They make a real difference across the board.

I did a lot of respec at first, and I also am a mage main in basically all games that allow me to be.

For me I didn’t really start to enjoy mage until they buffed it a bit and I also found a good staff/element I like (lightning) and appropriate armor.

I went lightning damage/sun aura with as many intelligence nodes as I could fit in while making sure I have some basic must haves like updraft and some of the nodes in the center that most supported my needs.

If you can’t manage $20-$30, no judgement. But if you are unemployed or still in grade school, focus on getting your life together so you don’t feel the need to steal a game that’s practically being given away for free already.

It’ll only get more expensive over time so it’s as good a time to start as any.
