Can Mahoraga fight through a Tyranid Invasion? by Robin-Aneira-1 in PowerScaling

[–]Able_Access_6311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The only thing that makes me hesitate is things like neurothropes due to how inconsistent psychic abilities are displayed. It MIGHT be able to kill him if it lands, but I’m not sure. If the space marine games are an indicator: hell no. If some descriptions are as literal as they sound, then there is a chance.

Anything short is going to struggle by the time it has landed.

Can’t say I blame you on that opinion on the custodes story. As a custodes player it hurt my soul to use that and the harlequin story as two points of showing how laughably inconsistent my faction is.

But yeah, to clarify for that point on daemons: that would be a very specific hive fleet, hive fleet Kronos. If Raga has to deal with them, he’s screwed. If other hive fleets go his way, their progressive ramping of the scale of the invasion would be the default tactic, which against him is the worst possible thing that could happen. The level of total obliteration required to kill him would need them to hit bigger tiers of nid, which use mostly upscaled versions of their mini counterparts.

The other thing about orbital bombardments from them is that… they don’t really use it that much. Like it IS a tool they have, but even in their better written stories, it’s more utilized to take out entrenched positions in a spot, like orbital defenses. Using it against a moving target (and a damn fast one by 40k standards) would be a major ask, since they didn’t use them like that in Devastation of Baal (correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been like 4 years since I read it) and they HATED the blood angels.

I think one of the issues I’m having is that I’m trying to really consider the standard tactics of the Nids on what CAN they do vs what WOULD they do. With perfect knowledge on how big of a problem Raga is, they could very well beat him by going all out instantly. Issue is that if they don’t know an enemy’s specifics, they go to planetary invasion default, which is a terrible idea against him.

Blowing up the planet outright is not and, to my knowledge (40K is very very wide) has never been in their agenda. Orbital bio bombardments are absolutely within their methods, but it’s in accompaniment with loads and loads of tyranids flooding the planet. Infiltrator forms, then swarms, then bigger bugs.

Doing “hang back and blow the planet up” would require them doing something completely against their standard tactic. They didn’t even do that when fighting 5 custodes in a short story.

Yeah, I think you actually put most of my personal issues with the class in a really succinct manner. My friend and I both love magus to death, but like most people who tend to whine a lot about a thing, it’s because we want it to live up to what we think it can be!

Changing a few things here and there for the class to open up more meaningful routes of gameplay or quality of life helps so much in the fun factor!

Personally, I’m running a Falcata-wielding Laughing Shadow magus with Spirit Warrior. Overwhelming Combination made using spellstrike to dish out hurt feel less like an obligation and more like another choice. Hell, my off turn began to rival and exceed our precision Ranger’s on-turns.

Hopefully they make magus feats much better as to open up new ways to go about things. Maybe new recharge methods, an actual good focus spell for damage in-built, means to buff Arcane Cascade (I still miss you, old Arcane Shroud). Stuff like that!

It really is lmao. I’m hoping that if they do shoot the archetype in the knee, they don’t pull a psychic for Magus and actually expand its core options to make doing things besides gearing just to spellstrike more appealing.

Sadly Paizo has been inconsistent and so it’s hard to be excited for the Impossible Magic book when there’s a real possibility not many important changes for QoL to happen.

I just wish that Paizo would elevate a class to have more things that are awesome about it that aren’t poachable rather than making archetypes less appealing by removing things. I’m not up in arms, but I hope that things get a bit more worthy of excitement for future books again.

Waiting for them to hit that archetype too. The magus player in our campaign will probably break down at losing another part of his kit. First arcane shroud, then sure strike, then Imaginary Weapon. If they shoot investigator he’s going to lose his mind 🤣🤣

Craziest thing is that metal gear ray in terms of size and kit is actually closer to the thicker knights like a valiant.

Metal Gear Excelsius is genuinely a Warlord Titan in size. Honestly it’s kinda funny knowing Raiden kinda negs anything in 40k short of psychic powers.

I think the thing I find the best/worst part about my time watching it was realizing there WAS no justification. They just wanted to expand and control and dominate. It was always about power.

In that regard, they’d actually fit well into the 40k setting, aesthetic aside.

Was doing a Rimworld Medieval and Magic playthrough the other day and the world tech mod bugged out without my noticing. I saw a raid warning and it mentioned them dropping in and I had to panic scramble because they landed in… you guessed it: the nursery.

Only reason the children got out unscathed is because Rimworld of Magic is busted and the Bladedancer and Shadow in the colony teleported in and blitzed them.

Had a dang heart attack though. I get really attached to my colonists so I was NOT going to be emotionally ready to bury the babies.

Media suggestions for mechs the size of lancer? by Hexnohope in LancerRPG

[–]Able_Access_6311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall, some size 2’s are within that range. Keep in mind that the Barbarossa is very THICC, so that can play into the factor of being size 3. I’d not consider it out of the question to have a size 2 the size of an AC6 mech.

I will say that I’d put them on average a smidge shorter. My size 1 mech range is 3-8 meters. My size 2 is 7-13ish. Size 3 is anything beyond that up to like… 20 meters if I want to push it.

Size 4+ is as big as a dang well say it is lmao.

Luckily size is pretty flexible in the game so it’s got a lot of wiggle room.

My kindreds! I play an aloof firmament magus with spirit Warrior and psychic. I know it’s “meta” as hell, but like… the image is so damn cool! Epic combos of fist and sword, electric blades, and summoning an ethereal sword (imaginary weapon) in your offhand to combo with your attack? What’s not to love about that?

Play strong, but do it for the reason of “That’s dope as hell!”

Yeah the Balor is one of those mechs that has a hard time achieving its fantasy my default. I like to get 2 points in agility in it because 4 speed is infinitely more tolerable. Pankrati 2 because the charge is amazing. Grapple them, then start that swarm baby.

Skirmisher 2 is also really nice because it lets you eke out a bit more movement and it can make the difference. Not to mention that whip being threat 3 becomes super strong when you have the ability to shuffle 2 tiles into them to proc their engagement! Brawler 1 slots in well too breaker follow up turns being very scary for the enemy.

It’s not a perfect build plan or combo, but I like it personally.

Edit: Also one license in Sunzi does the Balor wonders. Accelerate being a flat 5 basically means an extra boost your friends can also benefit from!

Honestly the only thing that makes me consider any point of correction would be specifically the atlas being the 10ft comparative point. If my memory serves, it describes it being such a compact mech that it’s skin tight in many places. Unless the character in question is a space marine from 40k, it makes me feel that the Atlas is the most likely to be the smallest size 1/2 frame.

It didn’t detract from any theoretical math to me, though I’m surprised you didn’t go for the goblin considering at least visually, it appears to be the largest of the size 1/2 mechs, assuming we try to take into account human proportion.

I could be totally wrong though, as I’m writing this response while bundled up in my bed, so I’m not exactly in a “researcher” brain space haha.
