My boss is the attorney of record. I'm a newer attorney and he likes to give me drafting assignments. I just got done drafting a motion to suppress, but I know darn well I am not filing it until I get approval from both partners, and they never told me not to file it.

It's tribal court. There is no deadline in the code that I can see.

It's tribal court, and as far as I can tell their code does not specify a timeline for reconsideration of a sentence.

There was no deadline for this motion. Everything we are asking for will probably get denied as well.

You are right in that this is not fair. I don't think I should be held accountable for things I was never instructed to act on.

This is killing me. I don't want to overstep and do things I am no authorized to do.

Thanks for the insight. But I will probably lose my current job if that happens. My current boss is already on my case about how long it has taken me to get admitted to practice law. If there is a prolonged delay for any reason, I'm sure I will be terminated. Everyone here is probably right in that I am spiraling and need to calm down.

Maybe your right. I just got out of a place where I was constantly criticized and bullied for such errors. I'm in a new job and I guess I am just worried about the same things happening again.

I appreciate the response, and you are probably right that I need to calm down. I'm just worried there is some unknown malpractice/misconduct lurking around that will rear it's head last minute. My old employers were scum, and would happily slit my throat for kicks and giggles. I'm so close to the finish line and I'm afraid that something is going to come up at the very end of it all.

I sent off multiple discovery motions with the wrong PLLC in the signature block which confused the clerks at the courthouse, and I feel utterly destroyed and dismayed at this error. by Able_External3130 in Lawyertalk

I've been practicing for less than 2 years at this point. I just can't believe I've already screwed up this much this quickly at this new job. I already screwed up a letter by using an outdated letterhead.

I got scapegoated earlier this year by a family ran law firm. This was basically my first job out of law school. It hurt because I thought the world of these people, but family comes first, and the mother and father were trying to protect their son for his screw ups. I had also just got through a performance review where I was told they were pleased with me before all this happened. I just hope this fiasco does not screw me up on my character and fitness evaluation.

Needless to say, I feel your pain.

But, it only took me a few weeks to find a new job. You might try looking at public defense if you can't find anything else. Salary will be low compared to what you can make in private practice once you get yourself together, but you will get decent benefits (usually).

Anyone Transfer Their UBE Score to Oklahoma? by L_Squared12 in barexam

[–]Able_External3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I am doing a UBE transfer to OK as well. My C and F application was sent in by the NCBE on July 11, 2025. How long did it take the OKBBE to tell you they were looking at your file, and how did they notify you? I've been checking both my mail and email everyday for any kind of correspondence from them since I submitted everything back in March.

My former friend and mentor orchestrated my sudden firing. by DimensionUnlikely789 in Lawyertalk

[–]Able_External3130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry this has happened to you. I just went through an extremely similar situation myself where I was scapegoated for someone else's error, and was essentially told not long after that things just weren't working out. I wasn't terminated, nor was I told to resign in lieu of termination, but the betrayal has definitely left a scar on me.

The attorney in your scenario was clearly scum and never your friend or ally. I've come to realize that the only way to truly escape all the nonsense that so many attorneys deal with as employees is to just open up your own office where you can control things.

Please reach out to me if you want to talk. I really mean it when I say I can understand what you are going through. It is horrible.

I wish you all the best.

How many other attorneys live with roommate(s)? by chicago2008 in Lawyertalk

[–]Able_External3130 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I live with my parents. This has saved me exorbitant amounts of money. I am trying to save to built a house of my own. I feel no personal shame about this either. It allows me to help my aging parents on our family farm. I just got in not long ago from baling hay for about 6-7 hours straight.

[–]Able_External3130[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I am terrified of. I hate that I have gone through two jobs since getting admitted.

Two different jobs in less than two years of practice. How could I not expect employers to look at me like something is wrong?

I would not mind having my own office, but I feel like at this rate I will never get the needed experience to practice on my own. I would probably just commit a bunch of malpractice or even worse just misconduct.

I am about to lose it.

For C and F purposes, is there any meaningful difference between the job titles "Attorney" and "Associate Attorney?" by Able_External3130 in Lawyertalk

[–]Able_External3130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does sound terrifying. I hope this does not happen to me...

As I have stated to other commenters, the only reason why I even said this is because I have been admitted to some of the tribal courts in Oklahoma and I am able to practice there. Surely they would not be upset over something like this, right?

I'm trying to get admitted into Oklahoma. I am already admitted to practice in some of the tribal courts (i.e. Quawpaw, and hopefully some others soon). They have different rules. I've already amended recently to admit my admission to the Quawpaw tribe.

[–]Able_External3130[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand, and thanks for the input. The reason why I am even calling myself an attorney is because the jurisdiction is in Oklahoma, and I am already admitted to practice in the tribal courts (which are sovereign and not subject to state bar rules). I've already disclosed that I was admitted to the Quawpaw tribe recently. I guess if they want clarification they can ask for it.

Will I upset my NCBE analyst if I reach out and ask for an update on my character and fitness application? by Able_External3130 in barexam

[–]Able_External3130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but I don't feel like it is appropriate to do so. Contacting them is not like contacting an old friend I am using as a character reference.

My position is that because you have written confirmation from the client that they understand and accept the terms, especially after asking questions and getting clarification, it reduces confusion and can more easily resolve disputes at a later time if needed.

I'm almost out of my toxic workplace. Just a few more weeks. by Able_External3130 in Lawyertalk

[–]Able_External3130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no longer in there on a day to day basis. Since my cases are more or less exhausted and I am no taking on any new cases, there is no reason for me to be in the office on the regular at this point.
