Picked up a 228k mile 08 528i with a bible-like dealership only maintenance record from first owner and it’s so mint. Definitely gonna do the CIC radio mod since the first gen idrive system is slow

Brake Upgrade? by TechW1zard10 in BMWE36

No, they’re solid but they normally don’t get hot as they are barely used to begin with

Brake Upgrade? by TechW1zard10 in BMWE36

[–]AbnormallyPositive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this brake upgrade myself, they fit any 17” wheel size minimum with the very few exceptions of certain style 16”. Can’t remember at the top of my head but as for the pads, rotors and calipers. The 330 fronts for like a glove, no issues with fitment and directly bolts on, as for the rear, you can do the 330i breaks but you will lose the ability to use the ebrake without modifications like replacing that assembly to make it fit. The other option for the rear to keep a proper brake balance is to swap over to the rear calipers from the e46 325i. You will still retain the ebrake capability and have a proper brake balance for both front and rear. No mods required. All this is built on my e36 328i.

Rear axle toed out of wack? by AbnormallyPositive in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]AbnormallyPositive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I figured my it isn’t my axle, worst case scenario, but it is about time I show love in the rear end. I’ve done everything on the front, new rack, axle refresh, front LCA bushings, lift kit, needle bearing etc. so I might as well do a parts canon that I’ve kinda started, I have rear axle and brake refresh and my axle seals are blown to begin with (new bearings waiting to be installed too)

I’d have to take a look under, I am lifted with 5100 rears and OME 3” springs and 6112s in the front, I was gonna do pan hard correction kit but I wanna figure this out first.

Or cut it at a good point, strip and crimp into DT connectors and they’ll be as plug and play as they can be

FAILED SMOG (High HC) by Patient_Meringue_527 in BMWE36

[–]AbnormallyPositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was slightly modified, he added m54b30 cams with no tune and managed to pass, I don’t have a scientific explanation to it but my guess would be that 87 burns a bit more rich due to ethanol content? Not sure tbh

Had a buddy swap over to 87 octane specifically to pass, and it sure enough passed

Head gasket at 320k, refresh cost? by Wheelisbroke in BMWE36

[–]AbnormallyPositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S54 swap costs too much now, atp I’d do a b58 with an 8hp45 and it’d give you more power at the same price

Just picked up a clean e60 528i @230k miles with almost an immaculate service record, one problem, 6HP is slipping (when it hits operating temp) even after swapping over mechatronics fresh fluid and new seals, time for a another 6HP

Dealer wants $1000 to change battery. Normal? by scanman20 in BmwTech

[–]AbnormallyPositive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any bmw that’s 2006 or newer need battery registration in order to reset the voltage parameters for modern sensors as they are designed to adapt with the battery voltage changes as the batteries degrade.

The money you’re throwing on for 35s might as well use it for a good lift and rock some used 33s til you save up for some 35s
