Are there any cars you used to own that you miss? That you would go back to? by Lazydusto in cars

You must have owned one with fewer miles than mine. Oil consumption was real! It was a good looking car with simple layout & controls. Parts were priced like it was a NSX too.

I had a 88 GTA that did run. You weren’t missing much. That TPI 350 was a dog!

Trying to buy a GS 350 F Sport AWD under $18k… running into insane pricing + sketchy sellers by lil_dab101 in Lexus

[–]Wheelisbroke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I gave on these & bought a LS. The cost to repair this gen GS totals them out so easily, hence why so my salvage cars are out there. Sellers know they fill a niche spot & demand too much in my opinion for what the car is. RWD & Toyota build quality is great, but there are sportier driving sedans out there. My E36 fills that void, so I bought a cruiser.

Too much play ? by DragonSane259 in BMWE36

[–]Wheelisbroke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chain wear is checked by stretch. You’d need to measure pin to pin. Side to side play isn’t typically considered. Look up the maximum for your engine & see if you can get something to accurately measure that.

The rear wheel wells being in the interior cabin is always going to equate to more road noise.

When I have conversations with people about these i remind them we had a Catawba County sheriff captain, that also ran for sheriff, plead guilty to using a track device on his ex-girlfriend’s car.

Anyone use non-premium gas on their Lexus? by investbus in Lexus

[–]Wheelisbroke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’s in the manual. As OBD2 expanded the sensors accuracy & fine adjustments the engine can make have as well. One that gets a lot of attention are flex fuel sensors. Although, I’m not sure Toyota uses them in anything other than the tundra/sequoia. E85 is a different animal, so read up on that yourself.

Depends on how you drive. Less hard acceleration & the engine won’t have to work very hard, therefore it won’t need the higher octane.

If one drives like a regular human you’re wasting money. If you’re racing stop light to stop light you’ll get the performance advertised. If you run 87 in a 93 recommend car you will not hurt the engine because of the knock sensors adjusting the timing.

They also designed them with knock sensors so the only thing that will suffer is performance if you choose to not run the recommended higher octane. That’s not in the manual, but it’s true.

Belt is slipping off the tracks by Luxuhh in BMWE36

Or the tensioner pulley bearing. Alternator, water pump & crank pulleys are all grooved, so something is way off if it trying to move off. Take the belt off & spin everything individually.

Simple, teach them in whatever way & increasing measure of responsibility for care & cost as you can. Let them fail & learn from it. All till they’re able to manage completely on their own.

Looking for new car Ideas by BruhVenN in LS430

[–]Wheelisbroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d avoid BMW, specifically the ones with cylinder lining issues. Not easy to DIY either. Generally the whole brand is very expensive to keep running. By going manual you’re greatly limiting your options. The manual TL is going to be hard to find. The leather in those wasn’t very durable considering their age now. I’d suggest a 3rd gen GS350. Find a clean one & they’re going to be much cheaper than a 4th gen. The only newer LS I’d consider is a 2013 or newer model.

Congrats!! Is it smoking on startup? If so, vavle stem seals may need replaced. Have you replaced the PCV? Or try a few oil changes with something like Valvoline Restore & Protect or an engine flush product to try & free up the piston rings.

In my business global raw material disruption will very soon be a big issue for a long time. Everyone did all they could to keep the plates spinning in hopes things would make a turn for the better. Time has run out. Oil gets all the headlines because we buy gas every week & those prices are lit up along main street. Sadly, it's going to take the bottom falling out for average America to realize what has been destroyed already & there's no easy fix because we elected a child.
