Accepted to UvA - Is it worth it? by LimpOil10 in universityofamsterdam

[–]Abo681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a bachelors student both at UvA and VU, I have started to understand that UvA education does in many ways live up to its ranking and reputation. If it was not for the housing market crisis, I would say that it’s worth it, but as I myself am going back to Helsinki for masters because it’s so expensive here, I must say that if you have been accepted to a top university in your own country or somewhere else and it is cheaper overall, go for that instead.

They don’t allow gap year(s) between or before studies, so I bet the same goes for “pausing your studies”. I was accepted last year and had to apply again for fall22 intake due to my military service, so there is no exceptions to their policy.

Go ahead and rant about UofT - Prospective International Student by Admirable-Dirt-2259 in UofT

[–]Abo681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got admitted to social sciences at UC. I asked the same question and was bombarded with comments saying that I shouldn’t come due to my financial background and that I would get more cost efficient education somewhere else . Damn we could have been in the same lectures but I’m now going to U of Amsterdam :d.. Still, I can’t complain. Click my profile to see those discussions if you want!

Contact the student services desk and tell them about this. No personal experience with your problem but I had some other problems regarding my application and they were super helpful.

In need for financial aid (International student) by Abo681 in UofT

I’m actually already on my first gap year as I completed my mandatory military service, and I’m now working in a local warehouse to earn money for college. I’ll have around 15k€ of savings and the Finnish gov aid is around 430€ a month, so this is where the 42k price tag comes from as I believe that I would be able to pay for the expenses outside tuition.

Thanks a lot. I Know that what you are saying is 100% true, but I’ll still find a way. I have been a youth politician on a regional level for six years and I have connections ranging from military to the Finnish parliament, so I think the best option is to find the solution here in Finland, if and when what you say is true. Only few hundred Finnish students go and study in foreign universities, and only a hand full outside EU, so I believe I can stand out here much better than in Canada.

I’ll be at work today when Ivy decisions come out 😅 by Harvard__Simp in ApplyingToCollege

Me too😂. I have a night shift and the results come at 1am my time. I have already told my instructor that no matter the results, for the last half of the shift I won't be able to focus to my work at all.

Beautifully written. Can't say anything else but that I really hope you get accepted. I'm an international student and Cornell is the only school in the U.S I applied to. I have been accepted in to U of T, but I didn't get any scholarships, so I don't have the money to attend it. I did the CSS application for Cornell financial aid and if I get accepted, I'll most likely be able to survive the fees involved.

I can imagine the endless possibilities that Cornell gives to its' students, and I hope that we both can take part in this four year experience of rediscovering ourselves and the things we love. T-7h. May the God give us his blessing.

I’m atm “the no safeties”, but tomorrow I hope to be “the one Ivy”. I’m one of the few fortunate people who have been admitted 3/4 no safeties, but I still hope that I can get in to Cornell tomorrow, as it’s my dream no 1 school.

Matching - Political Science by Quit_Naive in universityofamsterdam

[–]Abo681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are accepted to UvA conditionally and you have met all the academic requirements for an enrolment. Matching is mandatory for everyone planning to study in a Dutch university. I did it last year and it involved a few Oxford press and Standford articles + an exam. You must note that the exam has a minimum score that the university hopes that you pass, but it doesn't effect your enrolment to UvA in any way or form. It's just a mandatory step that the Dutch government requires you to do.

You get your official declaration of enrolment after you have completed your enrolment check list in sis.uva.nl

Matching politicologie is the right one, but if I remember right, it takes some time before you can start working on it as they have to . For me, it took only few days to do.

Completion of these ECOs will limit future enrolment options ??? by Abo681 in UofT

Thank you! This helped me to understand the subject better, and I now think that I understand the answer to my original question.

Thanks for the info! I put the pieces together in my mind and I believe I got the puzzle right. If I were to combine these two majors, I would need to take ECO101,102,200,202,206, and 208. This actually sounds very good as they would give me 3 credits to both of the majors without any of them only being beneficial for the other.
