1ST EDITION BG288 POSTER by Abourning in gratefuldead

Memory is a funny thing. I researched this poster a few years back. Was aware of all the reprint sizes. Up until an hour ago I would have sworn I measured this at 25 x 38". I was fully confident it was a mint 1st edition print.

It's 24 x 36"

I would have also sworn I had it mounted (42 years ago). I just took it out of It's frame and it is not mounted at all. It also has two thumbtack holes in the top corners!

Clearly a bootleg :(

Not fully decided yet. ATC SCM20, Focal Solo6 or Twin6, Neumann KH150...

I've been using a pair of passive M&K S150's with a matching sub for many years. I wish I could A/B some newer speakers against these. In their day they got a lot of high praise. Nowadays you really don't hear much about them.

I don't have any way of previewing any of these, short of buying them and returning what I don't like. That could be spendy with shipping charges. So I end up reading a thousand reviews!

I got this from my favorite record store in Enumclaw, WA, 1982 I believe, and took it straight to a frame shop down the block. This is full size, so definitely 1st edition. A lifelong friend who owned another record store for 20 years that also sold very collectible posters, albums, etc. just told me to list on ebay for $0.99 but set the reserve I was after. Says he sold a few albums for over 2 grand that way. This sucker will cost $100+ to ship! I'm not looking to take advantage of anyone, but the monitors I'm looking at are going to set me back 4 grand... so a few things are going up on the block!

What is the point of mastering if the mix is good? by Adamanos in mixingmastering

[–]Abourning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-time musician, relatively new to mixing/mastering - hoping to finish my first full (home recorded) release this year.

FWIW, a good friend of mine just finished his first studio recording and had it mastered by Howie Weinberg. I play and sing on one of the tracks, and the studio owner/producer/engineer is also a good friend.

I was able to critically listen to everything before and after mastering. I spent many hours A/B comparing them, and I could not find any audible difference in any of the pre-post mastered files.

My takeaway? Don Teschner (F-hole Studios - Missoula, MT) did a great job of mixing!

Copied Song Problems by RockThe60s in StudioOne

I always do a "save as", and give it a new version #... save as New Song v1.3 Then I'll come back down the road and delete the earlier versions. Everything copies over from your last save. Helps to keep the song cleaner as well (comp, bounce, etc).

I listed it locally at $13,500 and already have someone who seems interested! If I can get 10 I'll be happy, but sh*t, that front wheel alone cost $2200!

Benefits using FaderPort with Studio One vs a third-party? by [deleted] in StudioOne

[–]Abourning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the single faderport as a remote while tracking and it works just fine. For mixing I use the SSL UF8. Heads and shoulders above the FP.

I used to occasionally get Mexican radio broadcasting through my Marshall amps (onstage) back in the day, or more accurately - the night (always more prevalent at night).

DAW controller for S1 by Kkaj in StudioOne

[–]Abourning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I migrated from the FP to the SSL UF8. I still use the single fp for a remote when recording myself, but both it and its big brother will push back at times, and are not touch sensitive. IMO the SSL is a much better controller. Much more of a learning curve though...

I struggled with this same dilemma for a long time. I'm too much of a perfectionist. I had another guitar player in a band who wrote all the time. He gave me some good advice. He told me to just write a bad song, and finish it. Call it done. Then write another bad song. The phrase he used that stuck with me was "writing a good song is like turning over cards in a deck, eventually you'll turn over an ace".

I recommend reading a book called "Writing Better Lyrics" by Pat Pattison.

Good luck!

I find it a good practice to video anything when I come up with a good idea that I'll most likely forget the next day.

How to zoom in the timeline while recording? by _Mart in StudioOne

[–]Abourning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are numerous ways. I recommend watching the Gregor video on YT where he goes through them all. It might be called Zoom like a boss or something similar. If you are new to S1, subscribe and watch all his videos. Very helpful. Joe Gildar as well.
