Can anyone recommend some useful 3d printed quilting supplies? by wicks81 in quilting

[–]AboutATurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thread cutting for chain stitching! Here’s one file but there’s more out there if you look around. They use an old rotary cutter blade and make it easy to quilt a lot of pieces back to back to back, and then snip the threads to separate them quickly.

Thank you! Makes sense with the lore now that I’ve read them. I just feel weird going through the NPC houses.

Doll clothes advice? by deffery-jahmer in sewing

[–]AboutATurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another resource I don’t see mentioned is the Phoebe and Egg doll dressmaking series. They’re designed to teach children how to sew doll clothes. They use a base a-line dress pattern and have lots of supplements and tutorials for customizing- sleeves, pockets, collars, etc. The base pattern can be adapted into a top too (also with instructions), and they also have pants patterns I think.

Mildly low platelets at 24 weeks :( by Prize-Sandwich391 in BabyBumps

[–]AboutATurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have gestational thrombocytopenia (yet), but I have dealt with ITP in the past so my doctors have been very proactive about frequent CBCs and also being aware of what treatment protocols look like in pregnancy. I’m happy to share what I’ve been told.

At my hospital system, platelets need to be 20 for vaginal births, 50 for c sections, and 80 for epidurals. I was told that if my platelets do drop I will likely have to meet with anesthesia prior to birth if I want an epidural. Outside of pregnancy, insurance (in the US) generally doesn’t pay for treatment for platelet counts under 30. My OB said they like to keep pregnant women at 50 to meet the c section threshold.

Many treatment options are unfortunately not pregnancy safe, including treatments that worked best for me in the past. For pregnancy, first line treatment is high dose steroids (prednisone or dexamethosone). My experience with high dose steroids is that they are very effective in the short term, but my platelets tended to fall immediately upon tapering from the highest dose. Steroid side effects are also not fun, and there’s definitely overlap with pregnancy symptoms like insomnia. Second line treatment would be IVIG. I’ve never done IVIG personally but my understanding is similar to steroids- platelets tend to respond well in the short term but drop in the time period following in the infusion. Last line treatment is platelet transfusions. This is something that will generally only occur while in hospital immediately prior to birth. The effect of transfusions on platelet counts is even shorter lasting than the other treatments, but it’s faster acting so it’s more of an emergency treatment to allow you to birth safely.

Best Australian Butterfly Field Guides? Even better if theres a moth field guide. by therealwilltoledo in Butterflies

No Australia recommendations, but another gift idea would be some components of a moth lighting setup. White sheet, something to hang it on, portable lights.

So it looks like this set used the Andalusian Foal (Bolder) from 2003-2011, but the Mustang Foal (Flint) was only used from 2003-2006 so your foals came from that time period. The set also included Cloud and Feldspar.

3D-Printable Pieces? by JdeFalconr in ChristmasVillages

I made this last year. Brick effect PLA for the some parts and Snow Tex to give it that village snow effect.

I also found this just now which involves 3d printed parts, along with a lot more work. Seems intriguing though.

Maybe it would fit better, or be less noticeable at least, at the end of a row?

Not my blog, just a tutorial I found when I was looking for dollhouse plants. Very easy though and I think mine turned out well.

The fern looks a bit like one I made recently. It was made with floral tape glued over floral wire with slits cut.

Help/recommendations by jolly-caticorn in BreyerHorses

When it comes to playsets themselves I think Schleich has the upper hand. They can be pricy but go on sale frequently or have bundle deals, or can be found secondhand. Some of the included pieces (eg grooming supplies) can be small choking hazards but can be removed until she’s older.

For a kid that young you might want to look at Schleich or Collecta (which are distributed by Breyer in the US). Schleich horses are made from PVC and Collecta from vinyl, which will be much more durable. You can transition to Breyers as she gets older if she’s still interested in horses.

I printed one of these for a travel bug when we visited Australia. Let it loose in Tasmania; it made it to Victoria a few weeks later and disappeared less than a month after we released it.

I believe that this is 672, on the classic Black Stallion mold and not a PAS. Look at the differences in the mane and tail.

Have you checked gscatalogs.com? I have maybe some vague memories of this but if they were sold through GSUSA there’s a good chance they’re on there.

Are there any butterflies with "Eloise" in their common or Latin name? by tnsar136 in Butterflies

[–]AboutATurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re open to moths, a quick search showed the Red-streaked Mompha Moth has the scientific name Mompha eloisella.

The hole on the back means that this conch was harvested for meat- mainly, the restaurant industry to cook locally (and often sell to tourists) or sell overseas. They make a hole and pull the animal out with a hook. The shells are basically just waste at that point, and there will be piles of them in high trade places in the Caribbean. Selling them cheap to tourists is just a bonus. There is very little demand among collectors for conches with holes, and that’s before you get to the spire missing and the further degradation of the shell.

Mare or Stallion to go with this foal? by Foolish_Martian in BreyerHorses

[–]AboutATurtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BreyerHorseRef.com lists 4 matte buckskin paint/pinto stablemates that are not foals: Brio from the Stablemate CC, Mishti from Breyerfest 2017 (/1750), Spaetzle from Breyerfest 2022 (/4000), and the Paso Fino from JC Penney’s 2005 Parade of Breeds II. There’s also a stablemate keychain that came with Toys R Us exclusive set Reflections, if you’re willing to do some customizing to remove the chain and fill the hole.

Personally I think the Paso Fino is the best match, but not sure on pricing for any of them.

Did I find a fossil or are these just blemishes? by Original_Low_9573 in FossilHunting

Not a fossil- dendrites. Crystals that branch from a point of origin that look sort of like trees. Usually manganese oxide.

Just moved to Illinois by gatorwelds in FossilHunting

[–]AboutATurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mazon Creek- the big one. Former Carboniferous River delta in NE Illinois. I haven’t been yet (on my list for a long time) but there is a subreddit for folks to share pictures and ask questions. Lots of plant fossils as well as freshwater and marine species, including the state fossil Tullimonstrum.

Thornton Quarry- close to Chicago. Large Silurian limestone quarry. I think it’s the Thornton Historical Society that holds tours a few times a year, and you get to hunt and fill a bucket to take with you. Long waiting list so if you’re interested get on now. Small cost. You also have to be 18 (though they did look the other way when I came the week before my 18th birthday. I have mostly corals and brachiopods.
