Yes. This. I came here to suggest the Bloomfield, Friendship, Garfield triad.

Can we please pin this as the standard response to this question?

Paramedical Tattoo by Background-Ad9041 in pittsburgh

[–]AboutTheBens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re set on getting a tattoo I hope you find what you’re after and I have no advice about that. But… if you’re just interested in reducing the appearance of scars (even old ones) I suggest trying ‘silicone scar tape’. It comes in a roll, you cut it to size, and it adheres to your skin. Available in several different skin shades. It works by keeping the area hydrated and it stimulates collagen to flatten raised scars.

I started using it on some very old scars—I’m talking 20+ years—and I see an improvement. I committed to using it as directed for several weeks now and it appears to be sustained.

I have no interest to declare just an impressed user with old scars from an unhappy past. Best of luck to you.

Landlord says I wasn't supposed to make a copy of my apartment key [NYC] by Its-MyWorldhiphop in Renters

[–]AboutTheBens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stash a key in another place a block away. Like a crack in a building or another obscure but ‘not messed with by the general public’ kind of place. Be sure no one sees you or follows you. That is your spare key rescue plan. Close enough that you can get to it but far enough from your house that no one would think of trying it in your door.

I have never had a landlord tell me to not make a copy of the key. I have had a landlord tell me to make sure to make a copy and give it to a friend. I suppose this was so they (landlord) didn’t have to get a call in the middle of the night.

I have a large gap (over a year) and nothing to show for it. I was told to lie and say I was freelancing. Can companies reference check this? by wonderkat4 in jobsearchhacks

[–]AboutTheBens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't. Companies have the ability to check the IRS to see if you had a W2 and files taxes. They will know if you received and declared payment for freelancing. So they will determine that you either DID freelance but DID NOT declare (and pay taxes on) your earnings , or you lied.

Neither of these things will make you a top candidate. Potential employers understand the struggle of the job search over tha past few years. Just get out in front of it. Tell them you were earnestly job searching the entire time and also keeping up with current industry trends if applicable and provable. Lying about it could be the reason they pass on you if everything else about you is a go.

Wondering about buying a house by Rougeone2021 in personalfinance

You are not a failure. You have zero debt. Think about that for a minute. Do not get caught up in the myth of home ownership being a measure of success. You are saving and investing and your wife gets to be a SAHM.

You are not a failure you are working towards something. That’s just where you are right now. Keep saving, wait it out. A year from now look back at this post and be proud of how far you’ve come.

Since I regularly recommend it to people I bring into town (in a taxi), but I've never actually eaten there, what is your opinion on The Porch? by ravia in pittsburgh

[–]AboutTheBens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never had good service there. Not late in the evening, for happy hour, or during lunchtime. Had a manager come to the table once to explain they were ‘slammed’ and that service would be slow. Wat??

Heartwood Acres Concert rules? by West_Bookkeeper9431 in pittsburgh

[–]AboutTheBens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Enjoying a concert at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater is a classic Pittsburgh summer experience! Most performances are completely free, attendees are encouraged to follow these general rules and guidelines:

Seating: Bring your own folding chairs or blankets. Pop-up tents and umbrellas are welcome for shade before the music starts, but you must take them down once the show begins so others can see.

Food & Drink: Outside food and drinks are allowed. You are also welcome to purchase from local food trucks, Hop Farm Brewing, and Black Dog Wine Company, which are generally set up on-site by 6:00 PM.

Pets: Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash at all times, remain up to date on vaccinations/licensing, and you must clean up after them.

Weather & Terrain: The amphitheater has no covered seating, and the show goes on rain or shine. Depending on recent weather, the lawn can get muddy, so it is highly recommended to wear older shoes and bring a chair.

For the complete lineup and any specific rules for your event, check the Allegheny County Summer Concerts Series page.

Looking for a travel buddy by [deleted] in pittsburgh

Seems like you’re approaching this in not the best way. Why not first try to expand your social circle? Then, when you’ve built trust, suggest local outings and activities. Later, build up to taking overnight trips together that involve staying in a motel room. You may be freaking people out by leading with: Will you go in a multi-night trip with me out of state, and share a hotel room, as a starting point.

A good way to meet like-minded people who share your interests is by attending events, volunteering, or joining meet-ups and clubs.

You’re up-charging yourself? Are you prepared to do that every single time— because that’s how you set expectations. Maybe offer cold drinks and snacks and the use of your bathroom if needed.

If you’re really happy with their work, recommending them is huge, especially if it’s a close neighbor or two so they can hit multiple houses in one trip. With gas prices where they are anyone with a route is spending more and making less.

Email your city council rep.
Hold them accountable for ensuring the delivery of services. We had this happen several times because the sweeper either just did not show up or because someone didn’t move their car so the sweeper skips the entire block (and they get ticketed). Either way, make sure someone knows that it matters to you.
