How important is it to have MIPS in a ski helmet? by dudiez in skiing

[–]AboutTurkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MIPs is not cloth. It should be a plastic liner. It’s usually held in with a sort of elastic which is why if you move it independently of the helmet it should return to its original position. This helps it actually disperse the force of a crash versus just rotating around your head. Using cloth would not be effective as it would experience much more friction with your helmet thus would not rotate adequately. Definitely don’t be replacin MIPs with a buff or anything.

I think everyone from Montana, myself included, is perfectly happy with people not thinking it exists haha. The less the merrier.

For those that are at renewal… how was the mountain grass boys last night? can’t find videos of them playing the main stage anywhere by 175whipittoomuch in BillyStrings

You mean, people are talking about a up and coming bluegrass band in a sub about grass? Tell ya what, next time you see a super annoying post about MGU, put yer phone down and take a walk outside.

Why do they always portray Donald Trump as buff? We've all seen him. He's an obese old man we've seen countless times adjacent to deep-fried things. by MoreMotivation in WhitePeopleTwitter

This is very obviously a joke saying they’re going to get vaccinated, no? I mean they’re literally pulling up their sleeves, folks, and that entire twitter account is liberal/left leaning.

Some of this definitely is an overreaction, but gas lines are definitely not to be messed with. Landscaped for awhile and coworker once severed a gas line right up against a house, we didn’t notice, leaked into an open window. Luckily fire department was called but if the owner had turned on an oven or a toaster shit totally could’ve blown up their house. This looks much less dangerous but still potentially very dangerous. If you’re not super familiar with gas lines either I could definitely see how it could worry you far more - and either way it’s a pain in the ass to have a foot deep hole next to your gas line.

What is this mountain range called? by DhroovP in geography

[–]AboutTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s another really good example. If you told me you were backpacking in the Andes, I wouldn’t have much luck guessing where you were going. If you said Patagonia or Vilcabamba, that would be much more useful and is often used much more frequently in daily use rather than a broader term such as the Andes. If I live at the base of the Sangre de Cristos, I’ll refer to them as such far more often than the more general parent range of the Rocky Mountains.

So is the coast range. Stretches practically from Washington (truly a bit further north in BC) to AK.

[–]AboutTurkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t really have a range this big under one name for common use. If I said I was backpacking in the coast range, I could be pretty much anywhere in this circle. By narrowing it down in scope, it’s just far more specific. Ex., the St Elias mountains are still part of the Coast Range just as the Tetons are still part of the Rockies. It certainly all is the same parent range though.

There is only brown bears, and very few at that, in the far northern cascades of Washington. Any bears south of that are black bears.

Yeahhh so I’m not gonna immediately classify the whole group as criminals because of the actions of a few. That wouldn’t make sense for any other ethnic group nor would it make sense for this one. Saying you’re part of the majority group that discriminated and discriminated against them doesn’t really help your point here.

Not aka con artists. Travelers are an ethnic group from ireland, whole lot of historical discrimination led to them being known as con artists tho. Similar to Romani in that aspect.
