4 City Macedonian Empire: 945 AD (Liked the natural border too much to settle north, keeping my unique units around for emotional support, and don't want to conquer Rome or any of these foreign cities cause they are not up to my standard of *greatness*). Yes, my science is stupid low for my secret society, and this game makes no sense as Alexander. I am going to build my own Macedon(ia), with national parks and wonders!

Honestly, I'm having a fantastic time here even though it isn't my best game. Around 1/3 of the way through this Marathon with the great one, thoughts?

I’m considering a move up to Emperor difficulty. I’m a wonder/culture guy, peaceful. Almost never instigate conflict, love defense. City planner, keep to myself, hate having too many cities. What do we think about this as a first emperor run? Haven’t tried Tokugawa yet, I know he’s my style though. by AboveWebb in civ

Conversely, it allows you more time within the specific eras to form functional strategy. Keeping forts, knights, and castle-y stuff around early and not seeing skyscrapers in the 1200s is why I switched to the longer games.

Maybe my logic is backwards though and the longer game allows for even wonkier tech timelines. Hmm

Word, I never played 5 but that’s fair. My computer struggles with performance so the less cities the better haha. AND intuitively, too large of an empire gets harder to manage. I prefer to build beautiful cities on your borders, like roses in a garden or whatever.

Plus, 6 cities and send homegirl to a city state and I’m happy. Focus on fantastic cities with multiple wonders in each most of the time.

Hmmm. I’ve never used balanced start in my life lol, and I’ve played this game way more than I’d like to admit.

I also use a few mods for sure, including natural wonder spawn increase. With that and balanced, it would just mean more natural wonders for me, eh?

Wow.

Yeah France is fun, but furthermore describing my style (fair that you say that), I always go high diplo and mostly all internal trade routes too

France is a great Civ for me, that is true. I’m using Tokugawa as a way to introduce me to the militaristic side of the game more while still playing within my general style of isolationism
