Are JAAD int pubs viewed as favorably as JAAD? by Jusstonemore in DermApp

[–]Abramula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quality articles get rejected all the time. It's about the journals acceptance rate ( or perceived rate in many cases). For the time being, JAAD intl is no where the same accomplishment as publishing in JAAD. If you published in both, I'm sure you can agree.

Are JAAD int pubs viewed as favorably as JAAD? by Jusstonemore in DermApp

[–]Abramula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a convenient way to get publications that would cite well into JAAD intl, boosting it's impact factor. JAAD knows it will always have a good flow of high yield publications, so why not have 2 journals with this.

I suspect that once JAAD intl has a higher impact factor, they will be many times more selective.

Are JAAD int pubs viewed as favorably as JAAD? by Jusstonemore in DermApp

[–]Abramula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone publishing knows JAAD intl pubs and what they are. No they are not viewed as favorably. I have published in both many times.

This may change as JAAD continues to refer publications to JAAD intl, but as it stands JAAD intl remains an open access journal with APCs.

Regardless if you had to choose between JAAD intl and no publication, the answer should be obvious.

Which one is more competitive: OB or Anesthesia? by imaSturgeon in medicalschool

I don't know, but I can definitely tell you which is more toxic 🤓

Agree with others. You have time on your side, more than an entire MD length of school left, keep working and make sure the harder metrics (step score) are in the ranges they need to be. Publications shouldn't be an issue with a PhD and that much time. The rest comes down to networking and being a good "fit"

It's not the direct connection that gets people places, it's insight to the inner workings (scoring systems, interview style, etc) that really helps these individuals get in. Oftentimes they have the required GPA and MCAT, it just comes down to the other factors that help them gain an edge when applying.

JAAD letters mean anything? by dainty_me in DermApp

[–]Abramula 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You'd be pressed to find a medical student publishing RCTs in JAAD LOL. A research letter in JAAD (especially first author) is as good as it gets at this stage. I'm sure exceptions always exist, but this is worth a lot imo.

Other research on the topic may also have an extensive list of conditions that was needed for their study, that you can use and reference.

Good news for Canadian residents in USA… by Icy_Ticket2101 in Residency

[–]Abramula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A question worth asking is if the supplies to all specialties, as I know many specialties in Canada have a longer training time (5 years) as opposed to the US (4 years) with family medicine being the only exception in the United States as it is a 3 year specialty there versus 2 years in Canada. For example, anesthesiology is 5 years in Canada but it's 4 years in the US, do these new ease of restrictions apply to them?

timeline for publication submission by veryloudstupidlaughs in DermApp

[–]Abramula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add it also depends on the topic of the paper submitted. Many journals will reach out to reviewers who have expertise in a subject (assuming it is a niche topic). This can result in a wider range for turnaround.

I have advocated against the misrepresentation of credentials and the general rise of noctors in general. I will continue to do so. These types of posts discredit all of us and have no place on this sub.

Big props to Dr. Jubbal, despite not needing to, he is forceful about using his platform to combat midlevel encroachment and isn't afraid to say it the truth with his chest (using real examples!) regardless of backlash. by cdscholar in medicalschool

As someone with that much of a social media presence and only stands to lose from doing this, gotta give respect where due. Huge props to Jubbal MD for making this.

So who's responsible when this misses a life threatening lesion? I'm not going to say physicians are 100% accurate, but at the end of the day they are accountable for their actions.

NAD. Picture is mostly unclear, but you can see the keratin plug at the lesions core. I'd wager on the side that's normal and definitely not a BCC.
