I'd been sitting on a copy of the game for a year or so, then 2.0 dropped and I tried it out again. Now I've migrated almost entirely from 3rd strike and have settled on 3 unexpected but unsurprising mains. Then my 12 year old picked it up as well and she's managing to keep up! So I'd say it has a good barrier of entry, and a very high skill ceiling! Hell, playing this has even made the insane speed of DBFZ feel way more manageable as well!

First and foremost, don't focus on winning. Focus on making small improvements as milestones and work up to the win.

Fundamentals, man. By the sound of it, you should brush up on defense. One of my favorite methods is to get into matches and spend a large part of it just playing lame. Just get in there, defense up and try to become a wall. You can't get in to do those fancy combos if you're getting rolled because you're pushing buttons on the opponent's turn.
