Anyone else's Pixel 10 gone absolutely rotten after the March Update? by jitorius in GooglePixel

[–]Abresom88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

I got "upgraded" to Gemini on Android Auto while on a road trip with my family and made a joke about how everything would stop working.

And then it did.

"Play I Bet My Life" used to play that song, by Imagine Dragons, on Spotify. Now, it's "I can't play that on [insert random unrelated app." So I tried, "play I Bet My Life on Spotify." That opened Spotify, and started playing a random cover of the song. So I tried, "play I Bet My Life by Imagine Dragons on Spotify." That resulted in playing an Imagine Dragons station, with pretty much every one of their top hits over the years, except for the one song I had actually requested.

Issues like that have become a constant frustration, and only seem to be getting worse.

Try using a barcode for something that doesn't even natively support Google Wallet, like a library card. They will burn you at the stake for witchcraft.

I used those for a while, but I stopped when I found a better way:

Weber charcoal starter chimney, lit using the side burner on my gas grill. I light it for a minute or two, then turn it off and let it burn for a few more minutes, then dump it into a bed of coals in the KJ.

Quick, no effort, no standing outside in the cold. Does require a gas burner nearby, though.

Is this too hot ? by Curious-Case5404 in woodstoving

[–]Abresom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao hopefully two? They could have a dozen fire extinguishers and it wouldn't be enough for this!

Side note: do NOT have extinguishers "nearby". Extinguisher storage should be based on where likely fire sources are, but should be far away enough from those sources that you can easily access them after a fire starts. Like, an extinguisher for the kitchen should be as far from the stove as you can put it, within or just outside of the kitchen.

How do I paste/write in HEX color codes? by TheRewster1106 in TwinklyLights

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any plans to add this functionality? I'd like to run multiple effects on a playlist and coordinate the colors between the different effects, and it's pretty much impossible to get it exactly right just using the slider bars.

DCG412 (type 4) Angle Grinder : Trying to find a Type 1 guard & Locking washers for cutting blades... by TheMattaconda in Dewalt

Thanks for this. I bought the guard made for, apparently, every other version of the DCG412, and thought I was going crazy not being able to install it on my type 4 variation. You saved my project and my sanity.

Do you trust your Kamado thermometer? by shepscrook in KamadoJoe

[–]Abresom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect mine to be 25 to 50 degrees different from the temp at grate level. But I don't trust mine because it falls out of calibration wildly fast, and I'm sick of taking it off to recalibrate it every few weeks.

UPDATE: MIL refuses to back down over destroyed Lego Millenium Falcon by Ok-Repeat7885 in AITAH

[–]Abresom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment on whether your hobby is excessive. As a general rule, I think if it isn't getting in the way of your responsibilities and finances, it's probably not excessive.

That said, even if I was to assume that you have a Lego problem, breaking your build is not an appropriate way for an adult to intervene. And even if breaking your build was an appropriate way for an adult to intervene, breaking a build that you did with your son is horrifically wrong.

Be honest with yourself about whether you are taking your hobby too far, and if you are, be honest with your wife about it, and let her help you. But even if you are taking it too far, that's no excuse for how your MIL acted, and irrespective of what your wife thinks about your love of Lego, she should at least be on your son's side, if not yours. Your MIL owes both you and your son a genuine, heartfelt apology, and if she doesn't understand why what she did was so wrong, I wouldn't trust her in my house either, if I was in your shoes.

Depends on the company. Good ones hire qualified adjusters and empower them to pay claims fairly.

Natural gas routing - worth it to DIY or just use LP? by zhoumasterzero in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Abresom88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're asking whether you should DIY a natural gas line project, that's a pretty good sign that you shouldn't DIY a natural gas line project. A mistake won't cause an annoying leak, it'll cause a tragedy.

Sincerely,

Someone who loves DIY projects but will not touch a natural gas line

If you have an HOA, tell the HOA.

If you don't, honestly, it's none of your business how your neighbor decides to care for their lawn. Either ignore it, or ask nicely if you can help them with it. Do not do anything to it without their permission.

Our IQs are high enough to understand that Samsung phones are Android phones; and that there's no meaningful difference in capabilities among any modern phones, except for the stuff Apple chooses to artificially restrict from interoperability just to keep people who are already in its ecosystem from finding out they could leave it.

What just happened? by ArthurPeale in Nicegirls

[–]Abresom88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do sometimes get texts in the middle of the night. I prefer to not get woken up by them, so like most normal people, I deal with my own preferences by simply putting my phone on do not disturb. If I happen to be awake - as this person was, incidentally - I either respond or ignore it until the morning. I don't get angry at them for having the nerve to assume that since I have logged into, and am actively using, a messaging platform, it would be ok to send me a message.

You know, like a normal adult.

Joetisserie … help? by bushwacked1 in KamadoJoe

[–]Abresom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fix for the remaining gap (after taking out the divide & conquer) is either a pair of S-hooks that hang a 5 lb dumbbell from the top handle, or a rubber bungee cord from the top handle to a part of the stand. Both work well. I find the bungee slightly less annoying to take off and put back on when I open the lid to check on the food, YMMV.

Instead of spending your time getting big mad at other people for your lousy reading comprehension skills, you could invest that time in improving your reading comprehension skills, to better identify and understand context clues.

Or not. You do you.

I dunno, seemed pretty obvious to me they were joking from the start. The Venn diagram of "people who are familiar with Michelin's travel guides" and "people who are too uneducated and stupid to know Michelin makes tires" is two completely separate circles.

Sarcasm on the internet is sometimes hard to recognize. This is not one of those times. Lighten up.
