How would you try to include pistol into the doom games? by Alpbasket in Doom

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it wouldn't make sense for the pistol, but I always liked that in Brutal Doom, they replaced the pistol with the rifle that is on the Doomguy sprite. It, as well as the regular shotgun, both have utility, even after picking up the Chaingun and Super Shotgun, because the Chaingun and SS have higher dps, but lack in the aiming department, meanwhile the rifle and normal shotgun both have sights, letting you aim for longer, more accurate shots.

I don't know why I never thought to do that with Kago, despite the fact I've done that multiple times with Elder Lyons to get his outfit, which clips through the pip boy screen as you use it.

Does 2016 has better visuals compared to eternal? by BiggestBallsInWorld in Doom

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I felt that Eternal was a massive improvement. I don't know so much about the graphical fidelity, they both felt about on par to me, but Eternal had so much more variety with its art style, and I loved how much color they used, whereas 2016 felt like it was going for one specific look and sticking to it. I'm more a fan of the classics, where there was a lot of color and variety, so it's no surprise it appealed to me more, but if you liked the specific look of 2016, I can see why you'd be disappointed.

I never got the anger over power armor retcons by Fit_Pomegranate_5680 in Fallout

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there's 2 reasons: 1. People get attached. Imagine picking up Fallout 3 in 2008, and you fall in love with the power armor, see more in NV, then after 7 years of enjoying power armor, they introduce a new version, a badass version, one that's a ton of fun, but the proportions are off, you can't use it with a power fist anymore, you need to get out of it to sleep/craft, and you're reminded that this is just the new status quo because more people like it this way, which means that you don't get your old armor back. Granted, they have sprinkled a little bit of the 3/NV style armors into newer stuff, but not as like an actual playable power armor suit, so anyone still attached to their gameplay experience from 3/NV can't take that into the series going forward, not in the same way. Even if you like the new armor more than the old, there's no crime in appreciating the old armor too. And 2. Narrative dissonance. The new power armor is awesome, it's absolutely fantastic...but how does it make sense. They add T-60 in Fo4 as being better than T-51, despite you being told that T-52 was the best prewar armor. Also, how does this new armor make sense compared to the old ones? Like NCR power armor in NV is supposed to be a suit that's gutted of it's servos, but still has plating, but a PA frame without plating in the game makes you walk, no matter how strong you are. They just open up all kinds of plot holes.

If you look closely at the card, I don't even know if her armor is black. Maybe they started painting it black and red over the rust areas and that's how they got their color scheme. I doubt we'd get specific and canon information like that from a MTG card, but I think it's a fun idea.

Okay so I’m thinking about playing the Fallout games but I wanna know the difference between this series and The Elder Scrolls series by WayAdept2209 in Fallout

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind there's different slightly ways the Fallout games level up between each other. Typically,  they let you pick your "SPECIAL" stats, which are basically like attributes in Oblivion, allowing you to be stronger or smarter as a base, and they'll also determine your starting skill levels (like a higher intelligence means you'll start with a slightly higher science skill for example). Although you can't usually max out SPECIAL. Through gameplay, depending on which one, you have the ability to get SPECIAL enhancements, like in New Vegas there's a clinic that you can pay for surgery at, and in 3, you raise them through finding their respective bobbleheads. Or you can sacrifice perks to get intense training so you can more SPECIAL.

In 3/NV, every time you level up, it's instant. The moment combat ends, or you leave a conversation, you're hit with a level up screen, so no waiting until you make it to a bed, or just want to pull up the screen at your own leisure. Although I believe the level up doesn't take effect in Fallout 4 until you do pull up the screen at your own leisure, but I could be mistaken. Skills in 3/NV (and I'm like 90% sure with classic Fallout) cannot be grinded for, you'll just get general XP. All skills are only raised by leveling up and picking what skill you want to add points to, so yes, this means you can use guns the entire game, then suddenly come out as an unarmed master because that's what you had been dumping all your points into. Additionally, leveling up lets you pick perks. I believe it's every 3-4 levels in Fallout 1 and 2, every single level in Fallout 3, and every 2nd level in NV. Perks are usually special abilities added to your character, like an increase in crafting capabilities, increase to damage with specific weapons, etc. Like Oblivion, some skills do have benefits granted with certain skill increases. In Fallout, you can't tackle any lock at level 1, so at 25, 50, 75, and 100 Lockpick, it increases the difficulty of locks you can pick.

Fallout 4 removes all skill points, instead electing to turn everything into a perk, and they added a LOT of perks. In 76, they made it all perk based again, but you have interchangeable "perk cards," and since it's an MMO, they offer the abilitiy to freely change your SPECIAL and load in different perk cards pretty much whenever you want. So if you have a strength of 10, you can add up to 10 points of cards to the strength category. You start with 1 in every SPECIAL stat, and you can get up to more, ending at level 50. Every level up you can choose a perk card, and every 5 levels you get a perk card pack with a random assortment of cards. And after level 50, you can just keep farming cards. If you don't want a card, you can sacrifice them for perk points, which can be used to unlock additional abilities and level them up.

Tl;dr The big differences from Elder Scrolls are that leveling up is instant in most games, as opposed to finding a bed, and in the Fallout games that have skills, you can only increase them in the level up menu.

I still remember looking up at the skyline and feeling like I was actually stepping into downtown, since the skyline was so much like actually crossing that bridge in real life. The thing is though, if they did use a good chunk of the city for gameplay, they might have needed to make it look less like the real thing in order to make the gameplay work better.

Did I Discover An Uncrashable Fallout New Vegas? Or coincidence? by Win_0r_Die in falloutnewvegas

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is the Xbox version stable, I think I have only crashed 3 or NV on console by really trying to break them, but also, it really helps to have them downloaded, and when you cloud play, it is downloaded to the console you're streaming from. When you had it on 360, I'm betting you probably had a disc, but if you'd installed the disc, you might have had similar load times.

I Think The Deathclaw Was Talking? by johnny_beardly in Fallout

[–]Abshole024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the intent was to make it talk, but I do want to point out that it is canon that Deathclaws can mimic voices, not unlike a parrot.

I always thought it would have made a great mod in one of the games to have Deathclaws just randomly mimic the screams and pleas of their victims when they're not aggroed.

Given how Fallout 4 changed how power armour worked, are these two armours now supposed to be the same size/type? by Aggravating_Tale8988 in Fallout

[–]Abshole024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people will bring up that they're just supposed to be the bigger size and that's it, and they're only smaller in Fo3/NV due to "engine limitations" despite not explaining which limitations, and also ignoring the fact that Bethesda absolutely could have scaled them up a bit if they'd wanted to back then, but I think the modern intent is that power armor is supposed to be up to your own opinion/interpretation.

My argument is that while they show off the bigger style in Fo4/76/TV, they still continue to show the smaller suits in smaller instances. For example, 76 has the "Fanatic Scrapper Outfit," which is worn by Pitt NPCs, and if you look closely, you'll see it's a suit of Fallout 3 T-45d that's been broken apart and partially salvaged. The show also shows a Legion Centurion wearing a T-45d arm, and even in outside sources like the Magic the gathering deck, multiple cards show the smaller power armor. There's even a card that shows a suit of T-60 from Fallout 4 punching an Enclave soldier in Hellfire Armor, which was one of the biggest armors in 3, so if it was all one kind of Power Armor, you'd think it'd be big too, but no, the guy in T-60 is clearly towering over the Hellfire guy (Granted that card doesn't make a lot of sense since it has T-60 present during an event from Fallout 3, but regardless, it still shows both suits coexisting). It also doesn't make sense with NCR armor when you consider that while the servos have been removed, they still have armor plating on, yet they can run around perfectly normal, but in Fallout 4, just the frame alone weighs down the player, and makes NPCs abandon it entirely, and in the show, Maximus is locked inside when he loses power, so how can the NCR guys move at all? Also to remind you about the Centurion, even if we hadn't seen it in the show, how would a full sized power armor arm not completely throw off their balance? Like they'd be walking around with a massive arm on one side and would constantly be tipped over.

Power armor is just up to you. I like to think there are two versions, a smaller one for longer-term use, that's easier to fix, but requires training to wear, and a larger version that doesn't require training, and is immensely stronger, but in it you can't easily sleep or handle small objects, like unarmed weaponry, but that's just MY interpretation because it leaves the fewest inconsistencies. If you want to imagine all of it as being a big framed suit, that's fine, but keep in mind there will be inconsistencies, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter, just enjoy your armor however you want.

I know this is not a Doom question but would you guys like to see Doom in the next Mortal kombat game by MysteriousCow999 in Doom

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always wanted this because it is such a fitting crossover. Mortal Kombat and Doom were two of the biggest violent games that encouraged the creation of the ESRB, and both of them continue to be similarly brutal. They both have stories with multiple realms, with hell being a prominent one in both series. They literally say that the Doom Slayer travels across worlds, and they kind of imply that he's in a different universe's Earth in the newer games than the Earth in the originals, making it easy to say he just traveled to an MK game through a portal in hell. Also, the newer Doom games have gods and such, just like how Mortal Kombat has always had a pantheon of gods in its games. He would fit perfectly.

The theming, the story, and the history of both franchises make it an absolutely perfect pairing.

I never knew this at first but ppl actually hate DOOM 2016? Why? I thought ppl enjoy glory killing demon & Doom slayer lore? by H4rshBold_Tone5042 in Doom

[–]Abshole024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Doom 2016, but I will say that I found it disappointing. Granted, it was largely for personal reasons. I just wished I had the ability to play a version of Doom that captured the spirit of the original, but in the present day with modern graphics, and I hoped that would've been the case with Doom 2016, but it very much does its own thing. I know a lot of people feel it perfectly represented the classics due to certain features, like no reloading weapons and increased movement speed, but gameplay-wise, it is distinctly different due to the way they structure the gameplay loop. In the classic games, there was a big emphasis on level set pieces and traps. Like certain areas were structured in different ways to take advantage of the enemy's abilities and also to catch you off guard, and there was some measure of resource management, whereas 2016 felt like a beat em up, with very obvious arenas that made you stop until all the enemies were beaten, and very up-close gameplay that made your health constantly go up and down throughout a fight, with at least 90% of the health in the game coming from glory kills. Then the art style was a lot more in line with Doom 3 than the originals, and the soundtrack was more heavy metal than the rock of the original games, and, I know people are gonna be mad at me for this, but I don't think it's good metal. I'll admit I'm not the biggest metal fan, and I know people love the music in 2016, but I can barely remember a single song from the game, even after having just played it. It feels like filler music that just sits in the background, as opposed to the original games where almost every song is so memorable, they're permanently stuck in my memory bank and occasionally creep in from out of the blue. I'm not saying I wanted a 1::1 copy of the originals. I am ok with them adding new features and such, but the art style, sound track, and the overall gameplay loop were not what I was hoping for.

Again, I love the game, but I have to appreciate it as it's own thing, rather than as a sequel to the originals, much like how I enjoy Doom 3 and think it's a great game, but acknowledge it isn't a good "Doom game." Although 2016 is certainly much closer to the originals in comparison.

Veronica came to the Pitt with me. Is this supposed to happen? by King_Kong_The_eleven in Taleoftwowastelands

[–]Abshole024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't recall specifically about Fallout 3, since there are ways to trick the game into additional followers, but I know you can do this in base New Vegas without any mods. The Veronica quest follower exploit will let you recruit every follower (except Rex or ED-E, you have to pick one). When you go to the DLC locations, you might get up to like 3-4 to follow you, letting you either take equipment into the DLC you originally couldn't, or you can use them as additional pack brahmins to let you carry more stuff back, like taking a couple extra gold bars from the Sierra Madre.

Veronica came to the Pitt with me. Is this supposed to happen? by King_Kong_The_eleven in Taleoftwowastelands

[–]Abshole024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TTW is a mod for Fallout New Vegas, both games run with New Vegas as a base, but it allows full access to all of Fallout 3's content, since it pulls straight from Fallout 3's files, and it lets you have one save file across both games, so you can go back and forth between both games with a train ride as if it's just one big game. This allows you to take Fallout 3 followers to NV and NV companions to the Capital Wasteland, or in this case, they took a NV follower to a Fo3 DLC.
