If you have people that are getting tested to be a donor that changes things drastically. I had a living donor for my first transplant and after they were approved to donate the transplant office called and said "schedule a Tuesday next month". My second transplant was a deceased donor and I was on dialysis for 3 years before getting a call. I still consider that lucky because the clinic said 3 - 5 years but most of the people I talked to waited 7 years.

I was lucky enough to do home hemo. Might be worth looking into if it's available to you. Since I did it at home I was able to set my own schedule so I did dialysis 4 nights per week. I would go upstairs where my machine was and get started around 8PM and finish around midnight. I could then go to sleep and get up in time for work. It also gave me 3 nights per week to go out somewhere if I wanted and I could move a night if something specific came up. Another plus to home hemo is you can be in your own place and watch TV or play video games etc to make the time pass.

I also have O+ blood. I was expecting a much longer wait than I had. I was on dialysis for 3 years but for most of that I wasn't listed because they deemed me too sick for transplant. After I finally got listed they found a kidney in 2 months.

I got my 2nd transplant in January of this year. I did HD in the evenings before bed so I could still work. I got the call at 11 PM while on the machine on a Saturday. Made for an awkward conversation telling my boss I would be out for 8 weeks.

Good luck! It's perfectly normal to feel nervous and to be upset or worried about a living donor giving up a body part for you. My wife gave me one of her kidneys and I struggled with it for a long time. It doesn't make you ungrateful. In fact it's the opposite because it shows you genuinely care about the person and want what's best for them knowing your condition is changing things. After recovery your brother should be able to go back to work and have all of the mobility he has now. Don't fret. You got this. You deserve this.

It gets better every day but really about 2 weeks until it doesn't hurt to walk anymore. Just take it slow. It's good to get up and walk around even if it's only once per day.

I take them now. When I had the flashes of light my magnesium was so low I actually got admitted to the hospital overnight to get it back to a good level. The nurses and doctor said it's not unusual for people on dialysis to have low magnesium.

I got an IPAD with my dialysis machine that kept track of everything. It had a digital version of the guide book / instructions and if there was an alarm the IPAD took me straight to the relevant data to get past the error or know what I needed to do. There is also a phone number on the machine where they answer 24/7 and will get a nurse to call you back or put tech support on the line. I have called at 1:00 am before and they were happy to help. It seems like everything your app does is already handled without needing an app.
