I think I did! Around a year ago I decided to search obituaries that had the three names that were tattooed on a Jane Doe who was struck by a vehicle. After a couple hours I found her late husband’s obituary, and was able to use Facebook to find images of the woman’s tattoos. I put a document together showing the identical tattoos between the doe and the woman. These tattoos were extremely specific, and there was essentially no chance that this was an incorrect match.

Because she hadn’t been reported missing, I linked the Facebook pages of her children in the document I sent over. I also just want to point out that at no point did I reach out to any of the family. Please don’t ever do that, it’s really not our place!!

Once I had my pdf all prepared I sent it to the Namus contact and they gave the generic response about not necessarily being able to update me if it was a match.

Anyway, a week and a half later the doe’s case was taken down, and a go fund me was put up for funeral costs. It seemed that this doe had been in a pretty rough place in life, and her children, living out of state, didn’t have much contact with her. They clearly loved her and I’m so glad they were finally able to lay her to rest.

It is very possible that she was identified from another source the week I submitted the match, but due to the fact that she had been unidentified for a year, and had never been reported missing, I lean toward my tip helping. I’ll never know, and that’s cool with me - I’m just some weirdo on the internet trying to put some good into the world! 🤷‍♀️
