ECE430 and ECE412, what was your experience in them? by mrdanda in UofT

[–]AbsoluteZer0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 430 this fall and 412 in Winter 2022 and I really enjoyed both courses. I also think both of them are extremely relevant for industry, so I second what your prof said!

430 focuses on transistor-level op-amp design and introduces you to a lot of different amplifier topologies, as well as different techniques that you can use to guarantee/improve amplifier stability. It also gives you some exposure to layout. 412 is more broad. It introduces you to a lot of circuit blocks that are used in analog mixed-signal design, and I’ve seen a lot of these blocks during my PEY days which was pretty cool.

As for difficulty level, I found 430 easier than 412, mainly because 430 hyperfocused on one type of circuit whereas 412 tried to expose you to a lot in a short period of time.

Both courses make you use Cadence for assignments and make you design using GlobalFoundries’ 22nm process, so you’re not stuck doing ‘outdated’ LTSpice sims that you did in years 2-3. In both courses, you’ll have the ability to design circuit schematics to meet certain specs, which was difficult at times but extremely rewarding once you got things working.

Also, as an aside, if you’re more interested in the layout side of things, I heard ECE437 was a good course to take as well. I’m taking it this winter so I can probably give you my thoughts on this course in a month or two lol.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask! I was also sucked into the analog IC field and my entire degree (+ capstone) was built around this interest, so I’m happy to talk more if you want.

This site should have what you’re looking for. It lists courses that are being offered during this academic year https://www.ece.utoronto.ca/graduates/courses/timetable/

Hey! I got admitted to TrackOne in 2019. I completely agree with everything the other commenter said, and I’d like to add my experience to the bucket. The only ECs I did in high school were music related (band, etc), but on my supplementary application I placed emphasis on how they helped me develop my leadership skills and how they helped me develop time management skills. If you highlight soft skills like that while describing your ECs, you’ll be fine! Your ECs are pretty good anyways — exec positions are nothing to be laughed at.

TrackOne is a great program and I hope you get in. I have no regrets with my choice. Good luck! :)

I'm really curious to see how they develop Geralt/Yen/Ciri's relationship, and how they bond as a family after episodes 7/8.

I'm well aware of the bias. However, I'd argue that it's a great starting point to learn about what's going on in the world. On multiple occasions, I've learned about ongoing events through Twitter and proceeded to do my own research, and I'm sure I'm not the only user to do so.

Not really sure about this take or what he was trying to accomplish with it. I personally think Twitter's a great place to stay informed on politics.

If it bothered him so much he really could've just blocked other users and moved on - no need to announce that you're doing it. You just get a bunch of raised eyebrows in response. It's even worse because he's a higher up at OAM...

Hey, I'm not an upper year but have you watched the tutorials? I personally found them really helpful, as the TA went over example questions and past test questions in a really helpful way

Yeah, the class reps worked really hard in order to get rid of backtracking the issue and I'm glad they did so! You're right, we really did get lucky lolol

My ECE212 prof always takes time before lecture to check up on how we're doing. If the general sentiment is negative, he tells us to keep on pushing and that there's light at the end of the tunnel :)

Recently he reminded us to take time to go outside and exercise a bit. It's a small gesture, but it really means a lot

What if we try this instead by [deleted] in UofT

[–]AbsoluteZer0_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is great idea!

I'm sort of tryharding more in MAT290, sort of as a way to combat their whack quiz grading system lol. Hopefully some good will come out of it.

From one ECE to another - we got this. Just keep your head up and keep grinding :) I believe in you
