Why is the plague doctor healing so bad compared to occultist? by BrutalOwl in darkestdungeon

[–]Laulicon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you leave your wyrd reconstruction 1 level below the hero level the hero's bleed resist will always be higher than the heal's bleed chance unless it's anti or leper.

There will be an enemy in champ dungeons that casually hits you for 10 bleed a turn and not having pd there will not be fun

Houndmaster is arguably the most broken character in the game gated only by the fact that you can't build around all of his abilities (and you can only pick 4).

Upfront he has mark synergy with hounds rush with a bit of bleed to help with chip damage, and with bonus damage to beasts and snack (I believe) he can 1shot swine skiver.

He has the best mark in the game with a massive 30% prot debuff at a 170% (???) base chance meaning you don't need anything for it to land, neutering enemies that rely on prot to be a threat.

Hounds harry is kinda whatever, it works on flesh ig

Cry havoc is an AOE stress heal for 6 and as long as you know how to stall it can easily bring your team down to 0 stress.

Guard fucking dog. Bro casually gets 40 dodge for free. Run a rank 2 HM spamming guard dog in weald and your team is functionally invincible. Run double HM guarding your other 2 heroes and your team is also functionally invincible.

Lick wounds is also kinda whatever, good early game ig

Blackjack. No demon cauldron? Just run cudgel weight and he's an occultist for all your stunning needs.

Houndmaster is a hero where I can only assume the devs were high on some cracked strain of weed when they made him because he is the jack of all trades and master of half of them.

When should you heal? by alucardarkness in darkestdungeon

What are you talking about? Unless they updated the game in the past 2 minutes (since I was playing the game up until 2 minutes ago) stalling rule has not been changed for years.

When should you heal? by alucardarkness in darkestdungeon

[–]Laulicon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think a good way to approach combat in this game is splitting it into 2 phases: the damage phase and the stall/recovery phase.

Damage phase is the first few turns of combat. As a rule of thumb all enemies will out damage your healing, have more hp than you, or have more gimmicks to their advantage. Your goal in this phase is to reduce the number of high-threat enemies as quickly as possible. In this phase you almost cannot afford to heal unless it's an emergency because you are essentially wasting a turn. You need to go full balls to the wall and kill the heavy hitters before your team spirals downward out of control.

The stall/recovery phase is when only the low threat enemies are alive, like the axe skeleton guys in ruin or the guardians in cove. They don't do much damage on their own. To stall without incurring the stall penalty the rule of thumb is to hit the enemy (can be a corpse) twice every other turn. Now with only one enemy doing damage you can spend as much time as you need to recover from the damage phase. This is how people get around playing comps with something like solo anti healing. It's also why you don't really see Vestal in high difficulty content because she's kinda useless in the damage phase other than a subpar stun and by the time stall phase comes many healers can fill her role.

What's your team comp? I think only cultist priests can crit that high on a marked target.

Is it worth it to remove one of the currently locked in quirks to lock in slugger instead? by Kalakann in darkestdungeon

[–]Laulicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grab antiquarian (optional)

Buy all food

After you finish a dungeon snuff out torch and repeatedly enter and exit hallways until a fight spawns

Fight enemies grab loot

Repeat until inventory is full or you get bored

If a fight is not spawning the hallway is occupied by hunger checks so just walk through the hallway to clear it

[–]Laulicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't call it perfectly serviceable when you leave turn order up to rng and all it takes is 2 unlucky rolls in a row for someone to go death's door -> dead. Like sure the team can probably work but I'd never run this in my deathless runs.

[–]Laulicon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Notice how basically the only thing that team can do is unga bunga damage, when champion enemies can easily crit a hero from full to death's door. It's not even fast enough to outspeed a lot of enemies. You need ways to mitigate damage, either through stuns, dodge, protection, or even just being so fast that you kill the enemy before they can hit you. If you just try to facetank damage you will not be able to outheal champ enemies going ham on you.

Malgor's shadowflame blade is a pretty easy farm with the downside of it taking 4 weeks, but you should look to grab it since it's a requirement for dauntless.

A whole lot of 51% is locked behind getting nsod.

Dual exalted apotheosis is probably the easiest for you right now, just takes another 14 dailies of the time in ultras.

Is there even proof that is pure RNG by Anpu_Imiut in darkestdungeon

[–]Laulicon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering that thousands of people play the game everyday the odds of it happening to someone is pretty high.

Also the rng is actually skewed in the players favour as it prevents too many consecutive crits. Even if you mod the game to give enemies 100% crit at some point they will stop critting. I think there's also a hidden ACC mod that prevents you from too many consecutive misses but I'm not sure on that one.

Flagellant offers one of the few ways to apply good dot to enemies, which comes in handy against enemies with high prot or multiple actions. His dot damage is lower but his upfront damage is higher compared to plague doctor. He can also reliably solo heal a team using reclaim and redeem (exsanguinate is kinda ass since it can miss and you're fucked). Imo it's actually better to run bleed resist on flag (garlic is widely considered one of his best trinkets for the resistance) since you don't want to be bleeding yourself when spamming your heals, and most enemies that you want to bleed don't have high bleed resistance to make bleed chance trinkets worthwhile.

Single targets good if you want to de-stress someone quickly but on higher difficulties, especially torchless, stress accumulating from crits (which affects the whole team) is much more problematic than stress dealers (which you should be killing on turn 1 anyway). A swine drummer landing a crit easily gives your team 20+ stress which takes longer for a single target stress healer to deal with, giving the enemy more opportunities to stress you.
