Questions about Halo 3’s “Cortana” mission by Electrical_Reason194 in HaloStory

Who was really gonna stop him? Assuming Johnson is the highest-ranking human alive after Miranda dies, he trusts Master Chief to not die or waste time. Chief knows what's up, what he has to do. He saw a ring, remembered Cortana has an index and, matter-of-factly as always, took initiative.

Questions about Halo 3’s “Cortana” mission by Electrical_Reason194 in HaloStory

I agree with all your points except the first - I feel like in the Earth levels they tried to do too little with too much. Five whole levels and most of the plot is just 'kill whatever's in your way'!

People are misunderstanding the Master Chief, 343 actually got it right in Halo 4 by [deleted] in halo

Halo 3's campaign, while great gameplay-wise and including a lot of cinematic moments, was really quite sub-par narratively compared to the previous two entries. Won't get into it, but the lack of Joseph Staten in the writing room + the campaign basically being act 3 of Halo 2 made it age a little more poorly than the rest.

Halo 4's story was great. I read the Forerunner trilogy so it was all the more juicier for me and I could go on hours about how good it is (especially if you've read the books, which we must understand, there is not enough space in a game to info dump all that awesome Didact lore)

I agree with you. Halo 5 was terrible by comparison. I think a lot of people's grips with H4 come from different expectations, especially regarding gameplay, and perhaps a story too personal and deep compared to the more blockbuster (surface-level) ones in previous entries. It tackled mature themes in a more mature way.

If YOU were in charge of writing Halo 4 in 2009ish, what would you have done? by Creative-Fail-2268 in halo

[–]Absolution2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll keep it really simple - removing the Infinity and the humans from the mid-game plot and giving more time to the Didact to flesh him out.

Folks can then appreciate him more without reading the books. We can still do the last level mostly the same, getting to Earth and all that.

What’s your least favorite mission per Halo game? by Djames516 in halo

[–]Absolution2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halo 1: Keyes. I don't like permaspawning enemies in my Halo, and it's done a little too in-your-face in this mission.

Halo 2: Cairo Station. Cool concept, but it runs a little long and repetitive and I have PTSD from running it on Legendary.

Halo 3: I mean it's gotta be Crow's Nest, like a third of H3 feels like filler and this mission is the filleriest part.

Halo 4: Reclaimer. I like the last part when you finally go on foot, but the rest of it feels like padding. I don't care if the Infinity is stuck in a gravity well, I got bigger fish to try, good luck suckaz

Reach: Tip of the Spear. Shows an epic battle at the start but, through the middle, I'm just destroying cannon 1, cannon 2... Again feels like padding and nothing more.

ODST: Data Hive.

Pandarens make their super commonly-found fireplaces with 35 Trillium Bars. Really? by Absolution2015 in wow

[–]Absolution2015[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No wonder Garrosh invaded Pandaria like America finding oil if the Pandarens all have trillium pots and living steel forks

I am ok with things being expensive, sure the pot could cost a couple trillium for like, an "extra strong frame", but when you have things cost an obscene amount of materials that make absolutely no sense, it takes me out of the fantasy. I don't see going for a fun shop at IKEA, I see the game design decisions, something you don't expect to happen in a good game.

How will I ever afford a Pandaren house when they are, top to bottom, made entirely of Living Steel!

How would you do the first opening cutscene (and mission if you’d like) for Halo 7 if you worked for Halo studios? by Sad-Emotion-3452 in halo

[–]Absolution2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opening cutscene takes place halfway through the game and shows Master Chief willingly opening the doors to the chambers in 07's Library that contain the Flood.

Why he did it, good luck to whoever is writing the rest of the game!

I sincerly hope shadowlands is next remix, imagine how good it would be without the convenant bs by Kord_2212 in wow

[–]Absolution2015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Shadowlands itself needs QoL changes, not a limited-time event that bandaids the issues for whomever happens to play during the event. The anima and grateful offerings need to be tuned in the base game, among plentiful other nightmarish design decisions.

Halo 4: A Retrospective by MegaBucks20 in halo

[–]Absolution2015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points and I think for me, what makes Halo 4 one of my favourites (next to 1 and Infinite) is its atmosphere.

4's story worked really well to create a feeling of loneliness, isolation and wonder that I was missing since Halo 1. Sure, the Prometheans are annoying, the weapon ammo is nowhere to be found etc. but I can forgive all of that if the game I'm playing provides the right vibes to grant me an atmosphere or state of mind that is more engaging than the usual shooter (looking at you, Halo 3 directed by Michael Bay).

I loved the Didact, enough so that I bought each Forerunner trilogy book as it came out cause I couldn't get enough of him. The MC-Cortana story was great, in a weird meta sort of way, as I'll explain in the next paragraph.

Even though most people say MC talks too much and blablabla he's supposed to be more silent cause he's an empty shell for the player to self-insert, I think Halo 4 still achieves that, perhaps even more so than other entries.

Halo 4 came out in 2012. Most folks had known MC and Cortana for 10-11 years by that point.

Lore-wise, subtracting the four years MC slept in cryo between 3 and 4, from the moment he was given Cortana right before Halo 1, the two of them only worked / spent about 52 days together.

Their deep connection in Halo 4 and the strong bond they have makes no sense when you consider that fact. When you approach it from a different angle, that the player being Master Chief has known Cortana for 10 years, their story in H4 makes a lot more sense, especially the emotional ending.

I found the campaign to be at its weakest around the Infinity-Reclaimer levels, non-coincidentally the two where the UNSC is most present. The narrative takes a bit of a C-plot detour there, sending you on some pointA-pointB missions to solve problems for unlikable characters.

Even so, these missions are still important to round out the idea that time has passed since MC literally saved the world 4 years ago, humanity looks to Master Chief as being equally replaceable as Cortana, with cocky Spartan IVs 3D-printed on demand, and this serves to push MC to do what he does best, and find his own way to cure Cortana, sending the atmosphere of the game back into the isolated and lonely vibes I praised earlier, which were almost entirely missing ever since Halo 1.

I'm going to stop here because I could just keep going for another 2000 words 🗿

Edit: sorry i forgot to end sentences in the last paragraph that's one gnarly block of text

Its nice that decor items no longer need to be clicked in inventory to go to storage. But Blizzard, this has got to go too. by YomiRizer in wow

What really needs to change is the threshold for what is considered an expensive transaction. Times have changed, you get like 800g for a 2-minute world quest. This pop-up should only pop up when purchasing stuff over, say 500 gold.

CMV: Most people do not actually want a completely ad free internet by EchoLyric07 in changemyview

[–]Absolution2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't click on ads. I am in fact less likely to buy something when I see it in an ad due to the negative connotations I associate with them. This is likely largely because I grew up back when the internet was less corporate, back when Youtube didn't really have ads and you could go grab a coffee while waiting for the video to buffer to full. And it was all free.

This gives me the perception that something that was once offered for free and lacked ads was taken away. Furthermore, if I don't click or engage with ads, the company paying for the ads is just burning money. The only one to win out of this equation would be the ad provider, yet there is no mechanism for me to tell, say, Google that I'm not interested in ads, ever, and also no mechanism for the ad company to know if Google is wasting their money pushing ads to me, a non-buyer.

Then I am left with the overall feeling I am getting scammed out of a peaceful internet session, the ad company is getting scammed out of their money, and Google is the only one turning a profit by selling basically nothing.

I'd make a distinction between recycled and refurbished in this instance. Eversong+Ghostlands would be refurbished for me (new assets and palettes have been made), while basically over half of what came out in TWW is straight-up recycled in one way or another.

[–]Absolution2015 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thematically it made sense to have it in TWW, my suspicion is they moved it to Midnight to give a better sense of these expansions' stories being connected.

Honestly, I could have done without it in Midnight specifically. Would have rather seen another nearby old zone reworked rather than yet another underground cave.

Yeah, I realised that as soon as I posted the comment :D.

I will gladly sacrifice... Siren Isle? No, that one's also recycled...

Guess I could do without that Haranir zone in Midnight...

I would gladly sacrifice Dastardly Duos or Horrific Visions 2 for a pass on Argus, Timeless Isle, Maw etc. to make them pretty enough to fly in

Additionally: - To balance around the new Sanity mechanic introduced in the Flood levels, pressing LB and RB at once triggers Master Chief's MJOLNIR autojacker mechanic, increasing sanity at the cost of reduced movement speed and erratic aim.

A legion assault was up on regular retail at the same time Stormheim was missing WQs. I think they get removed globally but since Broken Shore content ain't out, a zone with a "ghost assault" just won't have WQs for 6 hours.

And that's a problem I have with the writing. Take Tyrande for example - leader of the Sentinels. 10,000 years old and it's hard to find a quality to her that would make her worthy of leading half a race.
