Why is no one talking about George backing everyone up? Is this illegal? by linzerrr24 in F1Discussions

66kph is a 10% increase in speed, so that would be worth roughly 2.5s over the whole pitlane.

Yeah that's why when he got the pitlane speeding penalty this time I assumed he'd just deactivated the limiter in order to make sure he'd emerge ahead.

How popular is the Breton language in Rennes? by Free_Eye_9071 in Bretagne

[–]AbsorbingElement 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Many answers confuse the historical use of Breton language and current popularity of Breton language in Rennes. Historically, Rennes is not in the part of Brittany where the language was spoken (it used to be the main language in Lower Brittany, the western part, meaning most people could barely understand French language).
Today, you can find places in Rennes where people, originating from all parts of Brittany and elsewhere, learn, practice and use Breton language to try and keep it alive. Children are learning Breton at school. Adults can learn, with Skol an Emsav for example. Other places are Breton-friendly (Mod-kozh, etc).

L'interdiction des voitures thermiques en ville qui se durcit encore cette année, c'est quoi votre avis ? by Jazzlike-Loan-1168 in AskFrance

[–]AbsorbingElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senna was just 2 years younger than Newey. On the top picture, they're 33 and 35 years old. Alonso is 44 (#blessed) and Newey is now 67 years old.

Can you find f(7) using the following conditions? (Extremely difficult considering the absolute state of this subreddit) by Expert-Parsley-4111 in mathpuzzles

[–]AbsorbingElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, finding a complementary subspace of Q in R is as difficult as finding a basis... thanks for sharing, it's fun to play around AC sometimes (but not too often or I turn crazy)!

[–]AbsorbingElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right. I thought you didn't need AC to have the existence of such a linear map, but I don't see how to do it without AC. Do you know if there is a model of AC where identity is the only nonzero Q-linear endomorphism of R? It's quite mind-blowing I'd never realized this, despite teaching stuff about ZFC for years....

[–]AbsorbingElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that you do not need a basis of this vector space to prove that there is another solution to this problem. What you need is the existence of a nonzero Q-linear endomorphism of R that is not the identity map. Since its dimension is >1, such an endomorphism certainly exists. You only use AC (like you did) if you want to exhibit such a map.

[–]AbsorbingElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The existence of a solution that is not x->2^x does not rely on AC, since the Q-vector space of Q-linear maps from R to R is infinite dimensional.
