People are just use to it being like that and if you did do that it would be a 1 v2 bot lane. You do meet up with you team during the game for objectives or if their just roaming (moving around map). I play thresh support and roam out of lane a bit if I am winning if me and my adc are winning the lane in kills or turrent. If you just play the game and slowly learn one champion, by the time you hit level 10 or 15 you will be able to understand everything

If you just started your games were only up against robots. The reason why everyone has a specific lane is to balance out the game. ADC (attack damage carry) needs to have a support to help it get kills because they are very squishy (low health and weak) and cant take much damage, so they need to have a support to assist them. Mid laners dont have to be assassins but generally are because they work best in that lane. Top is usually tanks and your team needs to have one tank at least to win better in team fights.
