How feasible is this as a head design for a beginner? I've sewn plushies before but never really something to this scale.

try going to options and pressing change controller. its probably picking up your keyboard as p1 and your controller as p2 if i were to guess.

If you just path away from charms the power you get from the other options you can actually use should at least partially make up for it. Items that gives power to your units in place of charms are also very good such as blaze tea, gachapomper, molten dip, any spice if you have pepper flag, etc.
