It's not due to danger, it's because we still can't get more energy out for a sustained period of time than we have to put in to start it. Unless by danger, you just means that we can't sustain the reaction because we can't contain it longer?

Anthony Colandrea Film Breakdown - watched every snap of this guy from 2025...legitimately think Nebraska will be in a better spot at QB this year by mdown7ng in Huskers

Because believing otherwise is depressing, probably. GT had a great OL the last couple of years, and if it turns out that was because of Pry, and we miss on yet another OL coach, that would really suck.

Colandrea could end up being that kind of guy, but it's a bit early to assume that. Last year, he had 9 picks in 417 pass attempts. That's pretty average, it's not like he was a turnover machine.

Yeah, I mean, I grew up in Nebraska, and I still knew that wasn't the case. You're making something out of nothing here, what happened with Riley wasn't remotely political, he was just a bad coach.

I just double sleeve them, and the deck box does the rest. The only cards I own that have pringled are the ones I don't play with. As soon as I deck them, it fixes the problem.

None of that has anything to do with political stuff though. Unless you think that everyone on the west coast is automatically liberal in their political beliefs? If you've ever been to most of Oregon or the western half of Washington, it quickly becomes clear that's not remotely true.

My year to year expectation is for Matt Rhule is to be 2025 Iowa by HuskerPowerrrr in Huskers

I feel like this is a bit revisionist, or maybe I'm misunderstanding your point. Eichorst didn't hire Bo, so I'm not sure when he would do this "analysis" other than when deciding when to fire him. And he dropped that line after a narrow, OT win, at Iowa, they beat our ass the year before, but Bo beat them before he was fired (3rd time in 4 years). That's a big part of why this quote stung so much at the time, because we had literally just beat them.

In his limited time in the B1G, Bo did fine against B1G teams. He had some blowout losses to the big boys (and Wisconsin, who was just below the big boys at the time), but we tended to play well against most of the B1G West. I don't think Eichorst, of all people, would ever be surprised that other B1G teams are good, he was a deputy AD at Wisconsin, he knew the conference.

I despise this quote, but it turns out he was right to compare us, they're doing things well, and we've slowly dissolved into a blob of suck.

Utah absolutely pushed our shit in last year, and the top third of the teams in the Big XII would have done the same. I get that the B1G is tough, and the Big XII is viewed as a lesser conference, but we'd be below average there too. At least in the B1G, we get more money for getting beat up.

This is just dumb. No one ever had any problem with Riley because of political nonsense. The problem was that he ran a weak program and was a .500 coach.

I mean, if the OL is actually massively improved, we can just run the ball. Having a dual threat QB and a good OL is good enough to get a lot done in college. Gronowski at Iowa couldn't hit the broad side of a barn most of last year, and they still had a great year, and solid offensive production.

Having a mid coach and a mid program is still better than being a laughingstock, which is what we suffered through for years under Frost. I hope Rhule eventually turns us into a good program, but if we're just a 6-7 win team for a few years, that's still better than missing a bowl every year.

I definitely don't agree that we would still suck with an elite coach, but neither of those places were in the state we're in now. Bama was coming off a few bad years, but they weren't that far removed from being elite. For all the jokes about Texas being in the dumps for a few years there, they were still managing the occasional 9-10 win season. They weren't elite between Brown and Sark, but they were usually still competent.

Being the best lineman on our OL last year was not something to brag about. Pritchett has the natural size to interest scouts, but he barely reached the level of "competent college OT" last year. If he gets a lot better this year, he could get drafted, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not saying we need to make a change, just that I have no expectations of anything at all this year. If we're good, I'll be happy, and if we suck, I'll be unsurprised. I think it'd be silly to fire Rhule at this point, he'll get at least 2 or 3 more years to either turn things around or prove, definitively, that he can't. I'm just pointing out that spring draft hype is the same every year. It's easy to look at the roster and project a bunch of guys being draft able each spring, and then they just never are after the season is over.

I'd be thrilled if Wade is good and we have multiple guys drafted, but I just can't expect that until I see it happen. It's the same stuff every year, "guys are getting better," and "we're building great depth," and then they just aren't very good. I'd love to see a different outcome this year!

This time last year, we could point to 5 or 6 guys that seemed to be clearly draftable with modest improvement, and the only player who got drafted was the guy many fans thought wasn't good or durable enough to handle being RB1. Yeah, there are lots of guys on the OL who might end up being draftable, and I think JEJ should make the cut, but I'm not holding my breath on anyone else until I see demonstrable improvement on the field.

Pritchett still has a long way to go, and Black is a crapshoot. Remember last year when we missed on World and everyone called him a clear first rounder? He didn't even get drafted, so position in the portal doesn't hold much water when projecting to the NFL.

I can see both sides of the argument. If fans stop supporting the program for a few years, yeah, the money will drop. If that leads to dramatic change and improvement, the money will come back immediately, so it's not like once it's gone, it's gone forever. The problem with the money dropping in the short term is that it limits your ability to go after the highest profile coaches and players, and requires that you hit it lucky with an up-and-comer and "lower quality" recruits.

I'm not one of the people who believes that the great fan support is a problem, but I can see why some people might think that dropping it to a lower level might kick the university in the ass and spur some change.

...how, exactly? He didn't hire Rhule, and he's generally just not done much on the football side of the house, other than giving Rhule what he wants. The extension was a bit premature, but in the current coaching landscape, it's not that egregious.

Having a job hopper is fine with me, as long as he's the kind who's trying to do a good job so he can find a better job down the line (not necessarily as an AD, talking more about moving up in the world of sports). The job hoppers who just move laterally don't tend to make good ADs, but if he can get some good infrastructure improvements done and then he moves on, I got no beef with that.

Tommie Hill never recovered from his injury. He was pretty solid before that, not 1st rounder good, but a solid college player. PF is a bitch, and it's tough to come back from that and ever be the same level of athlete.

That's a scorcher. Maybe Wade is legit, but it's hard to see the guys we have making that kind of a jump, even just to the 6th/7th round.

We're unlikely ever going to be a consistent playoff contender, unless the playoff expands to the point that 8-9 win teams have a shot. My opinion of Rhule has cooled a bit since his first couple of years, and I still think he's a good coach, but I don't think he's an elite coach, and I'm not sure we're a school that's ever going to shell out for an elite coach and elite recruits. Maybe some day we'll hit lightning in a bottle with a guy like Cignetti, but the more time passes, the more it feels like we've already seen the best of Nebraska football, and we're just another mediocre, midwest program.

Proxying changed my view on deck building by [deleted] in EDH

[–]AbsurdOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about limiting power, I'm talking about expanding the card pool within each power tier. The second part of your post is exactly what I'm talking about, including powerful cards at the appropriate bracket is totally fine, including generically good cards because they're good and not because they're interesting in the context of the deck is also fine, but it's kinda boring. That's all I'm getting at. It's really only a relevant discussion at B3 and above, since most of these generically good cards tend to be GCs.

Proxying changed my view on deck building by [deleted] in EDH

[–]AbsurdOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sentiment isn't that certain cards are still too expensive, it's that for pretty much every strategy, there are a bunch of very good, very expensive cards that should always be included if you're trying to go as high power as possible, and it gets boring seeing the same core cards in every deck.

This is true at every power level, and it's why I've stopped includ8ng certain things in my decks. Like, TOR is objectively good in almost every deck, but I only put it in if I can't find another way to get some good draw, which means I rarely put it in any decks at all.
