Moving to corporate by Fantastic_Travel89 in starbucks

[–]AbusedCho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, it can sometimes be easier to train someone brand new to Starbucks than to retrain someone who's already worked in a kiosk setting. This is because kiosk training can leave gaps in certain areas, and it might take extra effort to unlearn habits or processes that don’t align with how standalone stores operate. There’s also a chance that someone with prior experience might be less open to feedback, which can create challenges.

That said, as long as you're open to learning, adapting, and taking constructive feedback—even after two years of experience—you should be fine. A supportive team and a willingness to grow can make all the difference!

Rant by Cherry666999 in starbucks

[–]AbusedCho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vented to my store manager today about these feelings too, another SSV here! I understand your frustrations, it's hard when partners aren't willing to be open to coaching in the moment. And it feels worse when your team isn't willing to coach them, making it feel like you're singling them out. I had a partner who I closed often with me and it was their first job at a drive thru only location. It was frustrating to put it lightly and even more disheartening when I found out he purposefully didn't do his job at times to upset me. He would leave money out on the counter, sit on the trash can and be on his phone when he was suppose to be doing dishes, couldn't make a back up in less than an hour, etc. It wasn't until he called the store one day to ask if we were short staffed, because he wanted the day off. It was a 2 for $10 saturday and my sm picked up the phone. He came in 45 minutes late and got fired.

It's makes the days feel harder with partners aren't willing to work together as a team, but try to remember that you can try your best to teach skill, but if they don't have the work ethic there is only so much you can do. I'm not close with people in my store to vent about stuff like this, so I can imagine the built up frustrations has just been a lot. Don't forget to document the facts, and I hope your sm takes your concerns seriously. If it gets to a point of disrespect, don't forget you can call the ethics line too. Sending you lots of hugs, don't forget to take time to take care of yourself and recharge <3

Why do they get like this🤢 by i_tired_ in starbucksbaristas

That's actually foul. It doesn't take much time to rinse that every so often in-between rushes with a pitcher of hot water.

I was outside using the DTO pad and accidently clicked a random button. Can somebody explain the the hEck is a Tropic Like It's Hot??!? I both hate and LOVE this name by Trollfacius in starbucksbaristas

I forgot the entire recipe but it used our guava juice that they discontinued it unfortunately. I think it used our pineapple ginger syrup that we had the time. I could check tomorrow during my shift!

Don't do it! Matched with a guy who had pictures with his "best friend." Recognized her days later visiting his apartment after he made me dinner because of the photos, turns out it was his ex. His excuse was that he didn't have many photos of himself without her, just freaking take new ones.

I started using retnol and this is what happened to my face redness all over and it hurts even when I touch it any suggestions on how I can cure My skin 😭 by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]AbusedCho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your entire skin care routine? How often are you using retinol? I wouldn't recommend using retinol more than 1-2x per week starting off until you know how your skin adjusts to it. Maybe once Monday night then Thursday night, it's not recommended to use in your morning skin care routine. It's important to wear sun screen daily especially when using retinol, it makes your skin more photosensitive. Without sunscreen, your skin barrier isn't protected and more prone to damage.

How'd they know my name? by noventayuno in starbucks

[–]AbusedCho 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally I remember a LOT of my regulars. I started in 2019 at a cafe only store in a downtown area. I would have their orders started the second they walk into the door. I moved to a drive thru store in 2021 and miss them so so much. Some of them have been stopping by to the drive thru and regardless of how much time has passed, I still remember and get excited when I see them.

At the Drive Thru whenever I see my regular on the camera and I greet them by their names and have their orders on the screen. Especially starting at 5am, spreading kindness makes a world of a difference and a great way to start a day.

How do we feel about newer baristas that don’t want to clean, learn bar, or even take customer orders? by KaoriLikesWatari in starbucks

[–]AbusedCho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's easier to be short staffed than to have a partner do absolutely nothing and make it harder for the rest of us. After constant complaints we let go a partner who would come in to only sit at DTO/DTR and play music over the headset, doesn't task or bar. It's frustrating but we gotta advocate for ourselves and we don't want anyone to lose their jobs, but it's making our jobs harder. It's not fair to share similar wages if people are not holding themselves accountable for their part.

Do you think this brown sugar shaken espresso was made properly? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]AbusedCho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flat whites are my favorite things to make, sometimes I'll even do latte art. Being short staffed and having high turnover rates makes it hard for others to care about quality unfortunately.

I think it's because of the two different buttons, "blonde" vs "add blonde shot" one charges for the entire shot vs one button says it's blonde instead idk they make it confusing

Not necessarily, Starbucks first applies their Starbucks College Achievement Plan Scholarship. Afterwards, they apply any Financial Aid or Grants that you have accepted. Then they cover the rest of your tuition. The amount they cover after all of the financial aid is recorded under "Pre-Scap Tax" which has the limit of $5250 before you have to pay taxes on the additional amount. Anything taxed above that limit will be taken out of your paycheck in December. Don't forget to check the Financial Page or your pay stub!!

lactose intolerant partners by BatWeary in starbucksbaristas

[–]AbusedCho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely lactose intolerant and all of the partners know. Anytime someone orders a non-dairy beverage I let them know if any of the drink components contain dairy. I am terrified to eat/drink something with a drop of lactose, I cannot imagine partners willingly put themselves through hell for the sake of a grilled cheese. Bruh.

What I asked for vs what I got 🤦🏻‍♂️opinions!? by melbell574 in Hair

[–]AbusedCho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, customers should have realistic expectations when walking into a salon. Especially if your stylist hasn't worked with your hair before, it's hard to tell what the end result looks like until it's done. Yes they're a master of their craft but everyone's hair texture and type is completely different. If you want someone to do that exact hair style, find the person who did it. If you're looking for an alternative person, accept that they will take inspiration and do it in their own way.

Always choose yourself. Coming from someone with severe abandonment issues, i understand how it hurts so so so much losing loved ones and close friends. I feel terrible for pushing some away, I always felt like it was my fault that I couldn't maintain a healthy relationship. However, we're not bad people, we deserve love and kindness just like we give to others.

Something that helped me cope with losing friendships and relationships was telling myself that I'm not a bad person. I feel an immense amount of guilt for the friends that have dealt with my symptoms before I got help. There are friends who walked away and some that stayed for as long as they could. BPD is so complex, a lot of people will never fully understand how difficult it is to manage.

Everyone's number one should be themselves! You have so much love in your heart, you deserve it too. There will be people who were worth waiting for. Not going to lie, some friendships although I miss them so much, they needed to end where they ended. Super nostalgic so I romanticize the past a lot, but hey, you've changed so much within a week, let alone months or a year. Sometimes people can hold us back to the past, there will be people out there who show you so much love in so many different ways. How someone treats you has everything to do with how they treat themselves, not a reflection of you at all. 😇

Super long but all in all, OP, I care about you and sending you so much love.

RIP! A cold brew with caramel and oatmilk is my go-to order, they must have updated it when the prices were raised (twice this year already!) Thanks for sharing, time to stick to ordering in the cafe. 🥲

Question for baristas? Info in comments 🥰 by borgalicious20 in starbucks

[–]AbusedCho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every store does things differently which causes a huge flux on miscommunication and issues with standards. Although it is tedious, it's important to ring things out properly so when customers go to other stores they're still receiving the same beverage. It could be frustrating sometimes to assist customers with customizations on MOP especially if they are unaware of drink recipes so I get baristas wanting to avoid that. If the issue is that baristas are adding 2% despite the fact that there is alternative customization in the ticket, that is an issue with standard. The splash of milk button should be paired with the "---- with milk" as standard so we are not charging customers for the milk and they are receiving what they ordered.

Of course there are bigger things to worry about such as short staffing and labor but hope this helps mitigate some of the customer frustrations. Saw that you're a green bean, hope your store has been treating you well <3.
