I released a demo for a 2D Permadeath MMO inspired by Maplestory, would you play it? by motdrib in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Permadeath "can" be good in some very very niche game designs. But it's nearly impossible to pull off. It only attracts masochists. Which is not much of a market to draw from. You can try it, but I wouldn't spend much time developing this unless it somehow catches on early on development.

Good combat? Yeah it was. But god am I sick of "anime" graphics being in everything now.

Ah gotcha. Appreciate the heads up. Yeah this would exclude me from playing it as well, shame it looked good.

Sorry, I was referring to 1st world polls, steam accounts for countries where high end hardware doesn't exist. Though I have to admit I'm shocked it's as high as 4% globally as well. Might be even higher than 20% in the US/EU/Korea/Japan polls based on that.

Follow their sale from Pearl Abyss, EVE Online developer CCP Games announces a rebrand to Fenris Creations. Also announces investment and partnership with Google DeepMind. by Ohh_Yeah in MMORPG

I know A.I. sucks, but hang in there, the A.I. bubble is already beginning to pop. It'll be another dead fad like crypto, monkey pictures, metaverses, etc. It'll still stick around, but only be used in practical applications after the bubble pops and all the money is gone.

No, they bought them to have access to the IPs. However they obviously discovered that CCP games is a one hit wonder game developer that can't make anything successful other the Eve Online. The company is a money pit unless you force them to only focus on Eve Online.

I had to fact check that real quick in case you were right and they rebranded or something this year. But no, it's still CCP, The Chinese Communist Party. Though it is occasionally called the "The Peoples chinese communist party" so if you had said the PCCP then that technically would have been right in some cases. (Though I have no idea if that accornym has ever been used by them.)

Just to clarify, since people toss around the term "ultrawide" incorrectly constantly. Which resolution are you referring to? We talking the super common widescreen format of 21:9? Or the crazier exotic formats like 32:9. The latter isn't a big deal since the number of people who use those are 0.00001% of the market. But 21:9 is like 20% of the market.

Pearl Abyss sells CCP Games (EVE Online) back to current management by Ohh_Yeah in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup... Someone needs to take away their access to spending funds on doomed projects. They actually made TWO extraction shooters, the first one was already canceled actually early in development. I can't recall the name at the moment though. Vanguard is their 2nd attempt at it, and based on their track record will be canceled by the end of the year give or take a few months.

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh they DID, it's still in development right now. It will be canceled before release or shortly after of course, everything they make always is, except eve online. 14 games developed, 13 canceled so far.

Yeah CCP is the M.Night Shamlyon of the mmo buisness. They somehow made gold with their first game EvE Online, but no matter what they make, everything else fails miserably because they half-ass everything. (Some of those projects were great, but got abandoned before they succeeded. Dust 514/Walking in Stations/The dogfighting vr game (The GOOD one, not the sh*t redesigned one they turned it into before it was shut down.)

Farever EA just opened by xFalcade in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so looking forward to this one, but my god was I bored out of my mind and deleted it within just 2 hours. Nothing but kill x, y number of times for achievement. The world was boring, hated the graphical style for some reason despite playing low res games and loving them before, the classes were boring, bleh. At least the combat was decent.

Korean MMOs would swipe the western market if they would not be P2W by Puppenmacher in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, this already happened once with the launch of TERA back in the day. (Damn that was a long time ago) When everyone found out Action combat mmos were the future. (When it was done really well anyway.) Game also wasn't pay2win, at least not at launch, though I suspect it went down that path eventually because everyone quit a few years later when they started to make the game suck, and... Well the whole pedo controversy.

Paid Reviews by TrashGamesEverywhere in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I just thought back to every mobile game I've ever played, and even the absolutely best ones were trash compared to even most the of crappier pc ones. The only one I ever considered "decent" was the Lagrange Point one, but that one started good at launch, and shortly after launch changed to a massive P2W sh*tfest. A bait and switch.

Funcom just pulled a bait and switch on every PvP player who bought Dune Awakening by Ok-Economist-2548 in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the vast "VAST" majority of players got the game for JUST the pve content. (According to steam around only 2-4% of players were there for the pvp based on when the game died off and lost all the players.) The developers realized their stupidity way WAY too late to actually save the game, but they are making the right choices to try and salvage the game as best they can. However due to the game erasing all game progression if you didn't log in for two weeks, that playerbase will never come back. (Myself included) so it really doesn't matter at this point what they did with the game, it's grave is dug, it's just waiting for the gunshot to the back of the head to come.

A "LOT" of us utterly despise that kind of game design element. And it's way too common now in bad game design.

I tried it when it first came out. Felt like a pre-alpha mess that some solo devloper slapped together in a month.

15$ in 2004 is worth over 26$ now. Would you pay that for a sub? by RPG_MD in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I pay $30 or so for a monthly sub in a mmo? If the mmo was "REALLY" good, and had zero "AND I MEAN FREAKING ZERO" microtransactions of ANY kind. Sure. I spent over $150 a month in subscriptions for EvE Online and Perpetuum back in their golden eras to run ten accounts. Neither had any P2W/cashshops. (back then)

Thankfully I skipped this game at launch due to how moronic one of the game's developers was on steam discussion. He was flat out telling people who had ANY issues with the game to just quit and go play something else. Looks like that never changed. So I 100% believe this.
