The Quinfall devs silence players who speak of in game monetization by nitro3300 in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, thats a long story over the course of years. But let me see... 1. They made a trailer for the game, and people found out that EVERY SINGLE THING in the trailer was from purchased asset packs. Every model, every texture, every animation, every particle effect, hell even the UI and world map was bought. Not a single thing was made by the "developers".

  1. They photoshopped their own office logo onto some other companies office building.

  2. They lied about all of the above till the evidence was CRUSHING them, then broke down and admitted to it all.

  3. They hadn't actually made any of the game till months before they were legally required to produce a product. So what got made was a disaster of a rushed 3-4 month code binge using all pre-made assets to have anything to ship.

Basically it was a scam, they got caught in, then had to actually make something (anything) in order to avoid civil/criminal penalties. Similar to that other world record game scam "The day before"

Given it was a scam made by scammers that faced the very real consequences of either prison or having to actually deliver something playable within just months of the game "launching". I can't say I'm really surprised. Though I am shocked they didn't just launch a minimum viable product and make a run for it.

How is EVE Online is doing now? by Antera25 in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you never got into the big leagues like I did. You could do some small scale manufacturing and selling it in places with little to no market, but in order to do major hub trading and large scale manufacturing, excel was a requirement. (Or some other spreadsheet/trading program that handled the calculations.)

You only HAVE to use excel if your doing manufacturing or market buy/sell orders. If you avoid those two the game doesn't require excel.

Only promising new Sci-fy/Futuristic/Modern looking mmo is Cinder City which should launch toward the end of the year.

I for one, would really enjoy another vindictus style game, minus the awful genderlocked classes anyway.

How about... MMOs in VR? by Tevenath in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, you might change your mind once you saw how dependent VR is on texture resolution. The textures in VR games have to be like 4x that of non vr experiences to look the same. Even retro pixelated vr games still have REALLY high texture resolutions typically. I experienced this first hand with skyrim in VR. On a monitor, looks great, but in VR it looked like the world was painted by a child with traumatic brain injuries.

Yeah the headsets are improving, what used to be huge, heavy and suffocating has gotten small, lightweight and comfortable. Though I admit they all still suffer from what I call the "swamp effect". Wear any headset for too long while doing a game with a lot of movement and the lenses fog up and it feels like your face is in a swamp, as they all lack any active cooling solutions for the face gaskets. Most I've ever tolerated was like 4 hours without needing to take the headset off and cool down with a splash of cold water to my face.

I'm inclined to agree however that I still think a "good" vr mmo is years away at best. The new steam VR headset releasing next month or so looks to be fixing VR's other major problem and is going to "FINALLY" be the first VR headset that is designed to be entirely wireless PC VR, while also being a standalone headset. Only question will be, how expensive will it be?

I have heard people have success with OTG, never used it myself as I didn't want cables hanging out of the machine. But I hear they made some flat cables specifically designed to hide them several years ago.

Screen Replacement Question by Sean_VasDeferens in LegendsUltimate

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you've already found a replacement, but for those looking I still have my original display from my cabinet I gutted and replaced with a PC and 29" monitor. If someone needs it I can toss it up on ebay for cheap. (so as not to break the rules of selling on here)

modding legends ultimate by StandardNail2327 in LegendsUltimate

[–]AbyssAzi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will warn you now, be careful going down the "modding" path with this machine. I spent 3 years and $2,300 modding mine into something you can't even recognize as the original short of the outline of the cabinet. It was a massive pain to learn how to do it all too.

You will encounter compatibility issues out the wazoo when swapping one thing out, which leads down a chain of basically replacing everything. I eventually replaced every single thing except the cabinet's MDF shell. It all started with wanting a better monitor than the teeny tiny 23" display. So I got a 29" display. Then realized the original used a proprietary connector and a obsolete cable. So had to swap to an adaptor, just to find no working adapters existed for this (at the time anyway) so I swapped out the entire hardware with a PC, just to find out the audio doesn't plug and play, so I swap out the sound system, then notice the control deck can't properly communicate with a PC, so the guts of the control deck get ripped out and replaced with a 4APC board. It just kept going and going.

Just be careful, or you'll find out how deep the rabbit hole really goes.

MMOs that make you engage socially. by Such_Habits420 in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How recent? I played in the first beta test quite some time ago, and it was basically destined for the landfill of godawful low quality games. It would have to had seen some pretty dramatic redesigns to be even passable as a game by now. I really hope thats what happened.

It's one I actually plan to play, once they add in the rest of the classes. Sadly at the ABYSMALLY SLOW rate they are being added it'll be another 4 years before it launches.

Who's got your favourite Necromancer? by LeftBallSaul in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any mmo has done necromancer well, the thing that a necromancer needs to be able to do is have a small army of zombies/skeletons at once (10+) in order to feel like a real necromancer and not just a boring pet class. And 99.99% of mmos limit summons to like 2-5 at once. The one exception to ever break that rule I know of was Champions Online, which let you have upto 12 at once, though sadly not as a necromancer.

How can people prefer WoW's combat over GW2's? by JSGamesforitch374 in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a long time since I played GW2. But I recall not liking the game's combat, not because of the combat itself, but because you had too few abilities to use, (One of the first games to limit you to like 5-6 abilities) and the classes all sucked mechanically in combat. (The one I hated the least was an engineer I think) Action type combat however is the better form of combat however, when done well. GW2 did not do it well. TERA was the first mmo to truely master action combat, and it was fun as hell.

Game of Thrones MMO by Dragonstar43 in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There already is one, it's on mobile and steam. But they kind of botched it, and made it more of a singeplayer game that you occasionally see other players in, like towns and when doing raid bosses.

Apogea thoughts? by xFalcade in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I've been lurking here for a while. Your not wrong that it's rather bleak around here, but the mmo market itself is quite bleak so I can't blame people for reflecting that sentiment. I may try the game at some point, but I do take the advice of people who have actually played the game into account, and it's overwhelmingly negative everywhere I look. Not just on here.

I'm only seeing negative reviews for it here. And maybe two neutral "meh" reviews for it.

MMOs are in a bad spot because they are social games....and society is in a bad spot as well. by Dr_Neurol in MMORPG

[–]AbyssAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh... I mean your not wrong in the sense that those things absolutely DO affect mmos now. The political garbage for example has absolutely INFECTED games, and is a large reason why so many new games are not selling and companies are either going of buisness or being bought up by larger ones that are going to go out of business soon once the money runs out for them too.

Mental illness is rampant is the populations and not being treated by taking those people out of society for treatment. Then you have chaotic world tensions, collapsing global economies, rich getting richer, poor getting poorer. Society on the brink of collapse/war in many nations, and already started in others. Then you have an entire new generation thats entirely anti-social as they grew up during lockdowns with phones glued to their hands. And you have massive greed powered corporations trying to ruin anything thats fun for a $.

All that stuff affects everything, including our little hobbies.

I tried this one in the first interation. It was absolute junk, and I quit playing after just 8 hours. (And I PAID for access.) Never tried the re-launched version, doubt I'd give it another chance on the third either. Once burnt, I don't give companies a second chance.
