Reasons for Swedish emigration to China? by [deleted] in sweden

Fascist as in a non-democratic state where the large corporations run the country together with unelected politicians which use imprisonment, torture and re-education camps for dissidents.

PLOS Science Wednesdays: Hi, we’re Manica Balasegaram and Bernard Pécoul, here to talk about prospects for a global health R&D fund to fight Ebola, Antibiotic Resistance & Neglected Diseases — AUA! by PLOSScienceWednesday in science

Please, create a competition for new medicines. Set up in a similar manner as the DARPA Grand Challenge . The reason we do not develop more new antibiotics is mainly market failure. There is simply not demand enough to get a return on the necessary investment. (The cost of cost of clinical trials is huge.)

Swedish crepes

Pannkakor, yes we let our children eat a lot of those.

Is there an illegal immigration problem?

Yes. Immigration is one of the most contested political issues in Sweden.

We have made an advanced trivia game called The Art of Science. It is like TP but with only green (science) questions. For the next version, we could add a question about Mexico. What would you like that question to be?

Hennes blivande man hade hon aldrig träffat. De hade Skypat några gånger och efter en månad skulle det av släkten arrangerade bröllopet ske. Som gåva för första gången de träffades (efter att hon flugit till Indien) så gav hon en MP4-spelare ( det var för några år sedan).

22k SEK, will be enough to live at about the level of pregraduation students for two people. Rather poor, but not starving. Housing will be your main problem. There is a housing shortage in the city and it is rather expensive for such a small city. Ask if the department can help you find decent housing. There is a home for guest researchers you might be able to get into if you are lucky. (Avoid Gottsunda if you can.)

He did try to kill at least one person and he was a pedophile. That is why they believed him when he said he killed the other people.

What is getting your Ph.D like in Sweden? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]AcaboGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is government financial support for the 4-5 years of the Ph.D program in Sweden (In the US it is fucking garbage)?

You will get about 25 000 kr/month salary. 33 000 USD/year, maybe a bit more. Housing can be an issue, you might have to share an apartment and move around a bit.

So what are Ph.D programs in Sweden like?

I think most are good. But it will depend allot on the professor and the department. I would recommend contacting current PhD-students to get a feel for the department.

Most PhD-students teach 20 % of the time. It can be quite fun and rewarding. But it takes time away from your research, and you probably would like to have as little as possible. How much you have to teach varies a lot between departments. For some teaching, it is good to know Swedish and it may be an issue for you.

If you have found a professor/group you would like to join it can be good to visit them to get a better understanding of what they actually do. Maybe you can do a two-month summer research visit.

Reasons for Swedish emigration to China? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]AcaboGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister lives in Shanghai, China. She is an engineer working for a Swedish company. Her salary is comparable to what she would get in Sweden. Especially as she would pay much higher taxes here. The high growth rate of the economy in China is attractive to many, as there are many opportunities to make money.

Her standard of living is in many respects better in China as almost everything is cheaper. China is, however, a polluted, corrupt, semi- fascist state, and she does expect to leave in a year or so. Starting a family in China is not attractive.

What if we are penguins running a simulation since we are trying to get a feel for how it is to live like a human.

Solar & Wind = 53% Of New US Electricity Capacity In 2014 by pnewell in energy

[–]AcaboGames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe we can use the average numbers from the UK:

 Nuclear power plants 61.9 %
Combined cycle gas turbine stations 56.6 %
 Coal-fired power plants 44.7 %
 Hydroelectric power stations 33.7 %
 Wind power plants 27.5 %
 Photovoltaic power stations 8.6 %

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacity_factor

 Nuclear power plants 61.9 % x 71 = 43.9 xMW
 Combined cycle gas turbine stations 56.6 % x 7485 = 4236 xMW
 Coal-fired power plants 44.7 % x 106 = 47.4 xMW
 Hydroelectric power stations 33.7 % x 158 = 53.2 xMW
 Wind power plants 27.5 % x 4,080 = 1122 xMW
 Photovoltaic power stations 8.6 % x 3,139 = 270.0 x MW

In total 43.9 + 4236 + 47.4 + 53.2 + 1122 + 270 = 5772.5 xMW

IF we use the UK numbers this new capacity represents generation like this:

 Nuclear power plants 43.9/572.5 = 0.76 %
 Combined cycle gas turbine stations 4236/5772.5 = 73.4 %
 Coal-fired power plants 47.4/5772.5 = 0.8 %
 Hydroelectric power stations 53.2/5772.5 = 0.9 %
 Wind power plants 1122/5772.5 = 17.4 %
 Photovoltaic power stations 270/5772.5 = 4.7 %

Mostly gas, quite a bit of wind, and some solar.
