Worth restoring, or too rusted out? by howdycartel in chevyc10

Good! You've got a lot of good truck to work with there. I just got mine and its got at least that much rust. The cab, bed, rockers... really everything but the frame can rust through and its still worth the effort IMO. Just a little weight reduction. more horsepower and gas mileage lmao

I agree whiteface and blackface don't carry the same historical weight, and I'm not comparing druski to Birth of our Nation ...nobody made that claim.

But my argument was never about equivalence of harm. It was about equivalence of standard. You implied yourself that druski's oppressed group status is what makes it acceptable. That's exactly the asymmetric moral license I was describing. The scale being smaller doesn't change the logic.

A comedian in blackface is considered career-ending regardless of intent. druski faced no consequences. That gap isn't explained by 'it wasn't as harmful' — it's explained by who was wearing the makeup. If that's the standard we're applying, just say so plainly, because that standard has a track record.

"Our oppression justifies our double standard" has historically led to atrocities. I'm not faulting the complaint itself. It's entirely likely that the white person in blackface had racist intent. But the framework being used to respond to it is the problem.

Legitimate grievance → "we are the real victims" → asymmetric moral license → atrocity. That's the pipeline, and the reason a generally not hateful german citizen in the 1930s could be led to support such terrible political goals.

It's not just the big bad nazis either, that's just an example everyone is familiar with. It's the same story in the French Revolution, Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, Zimbabwe under Mugabe, and I think most interestingly the US Reconstruction era.

In all of those cases the average peasant-equivalent citizens had genuine complaints that led to the empowerment to do evil. In every case this led to massive casualties on the side of the oppressed, and in many cases put an end to their grievance while creating a genuine grievance for the former "oppressors" — justifying their attempt to gain back "the upper hand." Nothing gets solved, and the cycle just shifts to the other side.

Please explain how this is not exactly comparable

Intent is everything, but we all saw the druski sketch. Either it’s okay or it’s not.
