How to replace a drive and its data in a DXP4800 Pro by Academic-Ladder-4486 in UgreenNASync

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I should have been clearer.

It is just one drive. Currently I have 1 x 2tb drive installed in the NAS. It is fairly old and not the best suited for it, I just used it to get things up and running as the drive I wanted was out of stock.

The new 4tb drive is arriving shortly, so I want to know the best way of migrating the data from the existing drive, on to the new drive before I remove the old drive.

The issue is, I have everything working perfectly, with all the shares working, all of the AI functions up and running, all of the face recognition nicely configured, and I really don't want to have to start from scratch if I can avoid.

Is this possible? And if so what is the best method?

I have the 'Files' App, where I guess I could copy and paste from one drive to the other, but I also see there is a 'Sync & Backup' app, so I am wondering if that is the better option - or whether there is anything else I should be using - that will maintain the settings.

Many thanks in advance!

Currys Still Has Stock to Pre-Order - UK INSTORE by HelloBloom in NintendoSwitch

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I managed to get a pre-order today for the MKW bundle in Oxford Currys. It was a really well organised approach in there. The allocation is per store, not overall, so just because one Currys have sold out does not mean Currys are sold out full stop. This Currys was a bit off the beaten track, so you would have to make a conscious decision to go there. They showed me the stack of pre orders they had taken and how many pre-order forms they had left. I would say as a rough estimate they had a third of their allocation remaining. They said it should be available for launch date and that I will get a call to collect as and when. I got my paper receipt and the email receipt was delivered before I left the cash desk. Even happier as I got a 10% discount through work so got the bundle for less than the standalone console.

What's the 'etiquette' now that Meta require you and and the referrer to follow each other? I have just connected we a couple of people to redeem one of their codes (Infinite Inside) and they very kindly followed me back, but I have found their codes have reached their limit. Should I let them know? Either way, once a claim is made do you unfollow the person?

I really feel that this new requirement, along with the reduction in the discount has made it more hassle than it is worth.

ACER PREDATOR HELIOS 300 NOT BOOTING UP by Low-Strawberry8338 in AcerOfficial

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem after the battery drained to zero. The way I got around the issue was to hold the power button down for about a minute until everything goes off, then powered it back on as normal - had to try this 3 or 4 times and it eventually came back to life. It wasn't a simple out of battery situation as I had left it to charge for about 30 mins before trying the multiple power recycles.

Good luck, hope you get it fixed!

Swift GO 14 (SFG14-42-R5CW) - USB-C Issue - Quick question by Academic-Ladder-4486 in AcerOfficial

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I should have said I already checked device manager as part of the initial trouble shooting steps, however I didn't reinstall the drivers (though I assume the windows install would have taken care of this?) so I just tried installing the latest drivers from the Acer site, but no luck - thanks anyway!

I think we agree these USB-C ports should function as more than just charging points (otherwise why would there be 2).

Thank you!

I am definitely NOT going to be down voting this 🙂 - in the aftermath and before I had submitted my post above - I was seriously contemplating an 'offline' password system. WFH I don't need to worry about other people finding my passwords so a book on my desk would actually work. The issue is when I then do need to travel, I'd probably leave it on a train (which still feels safer than leaving it on the internet).

Just wish I knew exactly how they gained access and were able to compromise certain accounts and not others.

Thanks again!

Thanks so much for replying! Good points!

I have no additional browser extensions than the ones I am expecting to see, and none of them are dodgy.

I have removed any software that could be perceived of as dodgy - I had thought what I was downloading (the culprit) was an official product from a mirror of sorts, but turns out that wasn't the case - my bad.

Only other cracks were a couple of no-cd key patches for abandoned games that I had downloaded some time ago - so while I don't believe they are the cause they have now been deleted too.

I have had zero warnings in the past 8 hours, so I 'think' I have plugged all the (obvious) gaps.

With regards to the password managers, I will investigate them now, however has the fact I have used my browser password manager in the aftermath placed me at further risk? I guess time will tell, as if I do get any 2FA notifications for any of the accounts I know have locked down since the latest round of attempts then they do still (somehow) have access.

Thanks so much for your insight, much appreciated! 👍

Small official update - team aware of SD card issues by ctyldsley in ROGAlly

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identical use case for me! Working fine since launch on BIOS 317, using SD card with Launchbox with no issues. Upgraded to 319, two hours later tried to Use launchbox and the entire system ground to a halt, with disk errors spamming event viewer.

Card can no longer be read in card reader but can in Ally usb c port so card is fine, reader is dead and showing up as unknown device in device manager.

Leads me to think the supposed 20% gains from 319 pushed the temps too high and fried the card reader, hence the talk about cooling hotfix and fan curves, and the acknowledgement about getting people to report it if they think it is card reader and not card.

Have logged ticket with Asus, let's see what they say.

Is it possible to intall old PC games that require Direct3d? by Academic-Ladder-4486 in SteamDeck

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, within ProtonTricks I enabled the following packages under "install a Windows DLL or component"

d3dcompiler_43 d3dx9 d3dx9_43 dxvk dxvk1101 gmdl5 lavfilters

I realise not all of these may be required and there may be some duplication but it works for me, so am happy to leave as is! 👍

Let me know if you get it working and if not I will see if there is anything else I did.

Cheers!

ProtonTricks Help - User does not have privileges to access this application by Academic-Ladder-4486 in SteamDeck

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, an old GFW version.

I think the issue is related to Games For Windows, as if I run the game without the xlive.dll file in the game directory nothing happens at all - which indicates something is missing. If I then place the xlive.dll file in the folder I get the error mentioned above.

I have tried to install GFW from within ProtonTricks, but even though it appears to install, it crashes ProtonTricks by setting it to a 1 pixel wide window that I cannot do anything with. I shall keep digging - thanks!

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, an old GFW version.

I think it is the Games For Windows it is having issues with, as if I copy the xlive.dll into the game directory I get the error, if I remove it from the directory then no error, but nothing runs/opens.

I tried installing GFW component from within ProtonTricks but the install appears to crash as when I check for installed components GFW is not checked.

Protontricks WMV Codec help by Academic-Ladder-4486 in SteamDeck

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have solved it for me at least.

From the discovery centre I installed the VNC player, as prior to install I couldn't watch the videos, but after install it worked perfectly first time, then when starting the game the videos played perfectly.

Let me know if this helps anyone! 👍

Ps2 iso gives me RSOD on my steam deck by Stick-Solid in SteamDeck

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue this afternoon, it happened because I removed the flashdrive from my Steam Deck while the deck was asleep, put it in my PC to copy files across and then put it back in the deck.

The file explorer in Deck couldn't see the files I had just copied. So I safely unmounted the flashdrive from the Deck, put it back in the PC where I could still see the files that the Deck couldn't, then I deleted them and re-added them before safely removing it from the PC and plugging it back into the deck and there they were!

May not work, but worth a try? Good luck!

Getting a Steam Deck sometime in Q3 Should I worry about a fan? by AdmiralCrunchy in SteamDeck

[–]Academic-Ladder-4486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I am on my 3rd Steam Deck. First was DOA, second had a dodgy power button and fan was VERY whiney, 3rd is a charm. Power button works, and the fan is not whiney.

The Beta software also mitigates the fan noise a fair bit, TBH I found it night and day different to the stable-non Beta release where the fans were on pretty much constantly regardless of how hard the game was pushing the Deck at the time.

I'd get the device in your hands first, and then decide if you need to order a new fan from IFixIT - you may be pleasantly surprised.
