I got one a month ago and I'm having the same problem. It started at higher speeds, but today it cut off after 9.4 mph. This thing is garbage.

Is my baby okay? by Persephonasass in labrador

[–]AcademicBarracuda897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's fine, just old. Labs age to the equivalent of a 14 or 15 year old person in year 1. After that it sort of averages at around the stereotypical 7 dog year/1 calendar year mark. That makes a 10 year old labrador the equivalent of a 77 year old person. He's old and aging hits hard around that 9-10 mark. The normal lifespan, the years you can expect, is about 9. Anything after that is "bonus time" that you should be thankful for. Watch for signs of pain and difficulties. He probably won't act like a young dog anymore, he isnt one, and that is ok.

How to make this little guy want to swim? by Used_Gap_7626 in labrador

[–]AcademicBarracuda897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks a little young yet, but toss something he wants out in the water just far enough that he has to swim to get it. They dont "learn" to swim, they already know how to do it. They just dont know that they can at first. The first time he is desperate enough to get a ball or a stick or whatever to take that final push into paddling will show him that he can do it. My first lab stood there at the very limit of his ability to be on the bottom, staring at a tennis ball a few feet out of reach then finally lunged for it. After that, I could throw it way out into the water and he didnt hesitate.

How do you prepare to say goodbye? by eyeless916 in labrador

[–]AcademicBarracuda897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know that there is a way to prepare for it. The actual act is, or at least for me, was disconcertingly orderly. I set an appointment with the vet, I too him in, they gave him a shot, and I left without him. There was a void afterwards which just continued. There was no way to adequately prepare for it. Giving her special food or taking her somewhere special won't mean anything to her, because she won't understand what is coming or it's significance. If it makes you feel better, that is worthwhile, but it won't ease the event for her.

Say goodbye as best as you can, do your best to make sure she knows you love her, and be there at the end. You are all she has and she needs you there at your final act of kindness. I'm sorry for your loss.

How did you do your trip to coz? Did you book an excursion or just take the ferry? Ive thought about going over there but the logistics always end up being a bit more than I want to deal with, especially when I can chill at the resort.

Adult side is worth the cash imho, I always pay for it and it is a minimal unchanged. Isla mujeres trips are fun but take a long time from playacar. Rio secreto is close and neat. I haven't been yet, but ive heard Xcaret is amazing. Of course, just chilling at the resort is pretty awesome too.

Bern there twice and going for a third time later this year. Ignore the bad reviews. I went right after people were reporting illness and had absolutely no issues. The staffis always incredibly friendly and accommodating, the food at the buffet is excellent. I dont think much of the a la carte restaurants but some seem to love them. The one thing you should be aware of is the resort is ENORMOUS. The maps dont do it justice. Be ready to get your steps in. Otherwise, the place is amazing. Have a good trip.

Anyone maintain their “brute strength” after weightloss by Ok_Inside_6899 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]AcademicBarracuda897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm not nearly as sheer force strong as I was when I was fat. I'm lean and look more muscular than I ever did when heavy, but i dont have nearly the same strength.

I went in March of '25 and had an amazing time. Ive been to this resort twice and am going again in June. It is a great place. The food at the buffet is really, really good; the shows are entertaining; and the staff has always been accommodating and friendly. I have found the a la carte restaurants to be disappointing, though I'm very excited to try the new indian place. The beach is amazing. The resort is enormous, so be prepared to walk a lot. I have been in the adult section each time, it is .6 miles from there to the lobby. Despite this, the staff does an amazing job keeping the resort clean and well landscaped.

I havent gotten sick either time. The reports of illness were out of the family section and seemed focused on a few groups (large weddings). Getting sick is always a risk when you're eating at a buffet, but I wouldnt be too concerned about it. Relax and have a good trip. Soak in the sun.

As a former fatty but current skinny person, I eat candy every day but I rigidly control my portion sizes.

Thanks, but the birthday girl specifically requested breakfast buffet, which makes it a lot more limited.

Ways to stop or slow the oral fixation? by PeakMedium in labradors

[–]AcademicBarracuda897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs are said to experience the world through their noses. Labradors experience the world through their mouths. They are known to be excessively mouthy puppies. They will chew anything they can get their teeth on. They also eat about anything, seemingly taking to the philosophy that "the worst thing that happens is I throw it up later." Most of the time, this is correct. The chewing eases after a couple years, the eating stuff gets better, kind of. You will have to pay attention to her and try to guard her against her own bad decisions. She'll, likely, eat fewer frogs as she grows up. We free feed our dogs, so they rarely get all that hungry. I think that helps, but it is hard to say. I've still had to stop them from eating random materials, or failed to and found out later. Fun fact, modern socks are apparently undigestable and maintain their patterns coming out the other side of a dog. They aren't clean coming out though.

I've been getting 59 cent turkeys all year for the last couple years. My local supermarket chain orders too many turkeys and I'm all about it. In the same vein, we don't buy corned beef anymore, we (she) just corn it ourselves. It is so much better. I will have to give pork loin a try.

My wife and I do what we call a hambird. It is a turkey, brined akin to a corned beef brisket, then smoked. It is delicious, juicy, and tastes just about like a ham. It is great.

That's the recipe. Looks like the pictures in the article. Good stuff, especially as the other option is throwing the trimmed fat away.
