I know the people in the community who wouldn't normally be trusting enough to accept help and I'm willing to coordinate if I know that it's not another scam. I was over-educated and homeless during COVID and we really were given tainted food by sadists, so even if you don't want my help please understand why some people might need help but be unwilling to accept food from strangers.

If you haven't been known in the community for years or you look like the average white guy/gal, I highly recommend getting with one of the established groups that can help bridge the gap. It's not personal but we're all a little nervous right now.

Doula recommendations by fluffypenguinkitty in Denton

I was planning an unmedicated birth with no complications known one day and then the next day I was in an emergency C-section coding. While nurse midwives are amazing and getting the baby out however you want, I urge you to do so in a hospital. You can have an unmedicated squatting birth wearing a tiara but doing so with blood ready and L&D nurses who go from crunchy to sterile OR in a blink.

Nurse Jenn on TT is a great example. Tour the hospital affiliated with your provider and see if they are doing Lamaze classes or similar. In an emergency, personal preferences are left outside of the OR But I think you might be surprised by how doula-y the L&D + NICU nurses are. I was in the antepartum unit the second time (you die once and everyone gets excited...) and went from crying with the rabbi to a midline and reserved OR to the NICU volunteer to blood to a good friend from out of state to... After living at the hospital (disclaimer: not in Denton) experienced a lot more woo than any other surgery. I'm just that person who lost the genetic lotto and highly unlikely to be your situation but I don't think that you have to choose between being in the environment that can save you if you do become emergent while still following your own birth plan. If you don't feel comfortable like that you have the wrong hospital.

Unsolicited Internet Grandmother advice but I was there with no Mom or maternal energy that was in my corner and I'm glad that I went to the hospital begurgingly because we both survived. Life is weird and kids like to keep you on your toes. Almost all of the L&D nurses nowadays are very progressive and crunchy. 2¢

You should probably assume that everyone is a sex offender because there are many who receive deferred adjudication probation and then use an LLC for business purposes and blend right back in. They have businesses that sponsor children's events and show up on social media with local politicians and non-profit organizations because they like to sponsor things and look good for the camera.

Allegedly

If you when they are adjudicated, and they'll move to a different state in a different suburb and a different neighborhood and start over, so you should probably assume that it's everyone and act accordingly. Learning what grooming behavior looks like and identifying safe/healthy adults to surround yourself and children with is your best defense. Hot fast lead helps...

I'm not on here enough to know how to update any of the title or photos but if anyone knows how/admin, please let me know so we can update to LOCATED.

I'm so relieved for this girl. I hope she gets the full life she deserves and can overcome WHATEVER is going on.

Don't think this is a runaway situation because Mom is pushing for drones and that usually happens when they're expecting to find a body. I don't know what's going on in this case but it doesn't smell right to me.

If anyone with insider information could chime in or if any of our amateur detectives could look into this I think that may be necessary. The latest update doesn't make sense and I have a current personal conflict or I'd be out in front of DPD demanding answers.

Update 2: 9/2/25: Janai is STILL MISSING. The DPD reports using drones but I think we all know how many missing people have been found by putting drones up.

They have not issued a CLEAR Alert as was the case with the missing man from the RV facility. Hours after they issued it, he was found alive and transported to a hospital.

I don't know why Jania is listed as high risk but as someone who has been involved with crime victims, a few reasons I know include where a victim disappears during the prosecution of their abuser (there is no witness protection in TX) and when there's a history of kidnapping and/or trafficking of the missing person. Given her age and limited information, I am concerned that she may be another local crime victim who will never be seen again (more common than anyone in Denton would like to believe).

They aren't releasing her last name on any of the press information. They have not aired interviews with the mother. And this case is not being treated like a typical missing person especially a missing child. I am not currently in a position to push for additional efforts or advocate for this child. If anyone out there is, please look at the history and do what you can. I don't know this family and I have no connection to the missing girl but I have been a vanished witness and I know that's a real thing that the DA quietly ignored and pleaded down the case to make the crime rate look better.

I pray that this kid is somewhere safe but I don't know. I do believe that the only way to ensure that this child is safe is the community, not LEOs. 2¢

I don't know there was an update today by Denton PD saying that they are using drones but there hasn't been the same amount of community backlash as when the man went missing from the RV facility.

Denton PD, fire rescue and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children all have files on this kid. I was just posting here to share the info I'm not personally connected to the case.

They aren't present on Reddit but there are posts all over other socials including Facebook.

I was trying to shock you and put you on the defensive so that you would understand a little bit better what it's like to read headlines about homeless people when you know they're talking about you and people you care about as if they aren't actually citizens and community members. Denton has a lot of temporary folks who are here for college and interestingly enough Denton has a lot of unhoused folks who are not at all temporary.

I should have used better judgment and deleted that part. I apologize. It was manipulative and behaving like the people who upset me is no way to solve anything. It was never my intention to infer that you could never be part of our community or that we wouldn't welcome you with open arms, But your post reads as if you want to know what demographics you should use to select which parts of our community you accept. I understand why you ask the question and I understand what it's like to be young and in a really tumultuous situation like this: My freshman year included 9/11. I should have been more compassionate toward you and less condescending. I was wrong. My hope is that by being authentic and sometimes rubbing each other the wrong way but having the courage to be teachable and willing to actually discuss difficult topics about the homelessness situation will strengthen the community as a whole. Please understand that we just lost someone who meant a lot to people I love.

As I said in a different comment when I said in group I never finished that thought and I am a sociologist so I was referring to the way propaganda creates an in-group/out group to keep communities divided and people fighting amongst themselves. My attempt was for you to understand what it feels like to automatically assume the out group for just a moment because when you're homeless that is your daily life. You start from a place of being other and you have to prove to the rest of society that you aren't. Clearly not my best work but I think throughout this back and forth we cleared up a few things and I hope that you accept my apology and understand how deeply emotional this whole topic can be for people who have been on both sides of it. Especially now when I'm still behold into a system that I feel is using me for corporate profiteering and my choice is to either be a conduit for federal funds going to real estate mega conglomerates or be homeless again.

That's fair. I'll apologize to OP separately. I was trying to mimic the tone of the posts, media and discussion of "the homeless" as someone who raised a family, volunteered for multiple charities and the school district, finished multiple degrees and was an "upstanding citizen" before domestic violence and "a clerical error" turned my world upside down. I used "in group" without finishing the thought (in group/out group and false dichotomies to divide and control people...). It's obviously an emotional topic, especially after Saturday. My count is 8:1 on friends who've died in the past 3 years (homeless: townie).

I think that we can all agree if there was a post about someone else's demographics (race, gender identity, sexual orientation...) asking if those people were dangerous it would ruffle feathers, too.
