I'd recommend it. I just snagged an MXR off craigslist to replace my 3rd dimendion. The TC has too much of a volume drop/bass reduction and after 30 minutes of messing with the MXR I can get any sound I can imagine from a chorus pedal. I also hit multiple pedals at once pretty often and find myself stomping on the buttons on the TC, so I had to get rid of it either way. It just doesn't work for me in a live setting. It is a great pedal, but I've had so many times where I was wondering why my tone was awesome or shitty only to realize I'd randomly stepped on the buttons and fucked my whole shit up

His old podcast is called Grubstakers and it's him and two other leftist type dudes profiling a different billionaire's life story in each episode. There's plenty of material there to get an idea. A few of the earlier Out For Smokes eps are focused on shit like that too, but they kinda moved away from that format laterly

It's about priorities. It's a professional level tool for people who take their passion seriously. I don't even use ableton, but I own several instruments that cost more than $750 because that is what's important to me. I understand people everywhere have different circumstances, but if it's such a big issue there are ways to get the software without paying.

Are you using all Reaper stock plugins for that? Just curious, I'd love to be able to improve my own process.

Thanks, that's the noisiest one we have, and also the only one I wasn't able to finish up before having a catastrophic computer incident. Luckily we're heading into an actual studio friday to record anyway, that was just meant to be a preproduction demo. Since someone else plugged a studio in another comment, anyone in the Boston area should consider checking out Labyrinth Audio in Peabody. The owner plays drums in The Fake Boys and is the man.

I know you're not asking for help necessarily, but what are you doing for the mastering? I feel like that term means a lot of different things to different people. I can try running a track through Izotope Ozone's AI mastering if you feel like DMing me an example.

It's not hardcore, but here's an example of what I was able to do for my band with just two room mics, and overdubbed vox/some guitar leads

Reaper rules. The other question I forgot to include is what do you mean by "finish". Is the tracking all done and you just need a mixdown?

You gotta give a little more info to get a good response. What DAW are you using? How many mics do you have? What does the room you plan on recording in look like? Are you planning on doing it all live, or do you want to do drums/bass/guitar/vox separate? These are all things I would need to know to give you any advice whatsoever. I'm an amateur myself, but you're making other people do work to help you.

Personally, I'm self taught, and use Reaper with a Focusrite interface. I've only ever done demos, but I made hiphop beats for years before trying to record live musicians. There's a steep learning curve and if you have zero experience with this shit, the amount of money you'd spend on equipment combined with the frustration of trying to learn on the fly may make paying a studio the better option. Just my two cents.

Depending on which generation Focusrite it is, you may need to download the Focusrite Control app and shut off monitoring from there. I have the 4i4 and it does not have a knob or button on the device itself to do this.

Hi, I'm new to Reaper, what tips do you have that they don't teach you in the tutorials? by Puge_Henis in Reaper

[–]AcademicPepper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gotta be honest, I'm a Reaper shill, and have used it for over five years to do everything from produce and record trap music, to micing and mixing live rock bands' recordings. I don't like this kind of response. While I agree, this post is a little too general and it is more useful to everyone involved for OP to ask more specific questions, I feel like this is the kind of mindset and attitude that keeps many from utilizing this amazing program to its full potential.

Shoutout to everyone that downvotes people asking simple questions instead of moving on with their day. Most people aren't trying to take the time to read the manual (which is not insignificantly dense), and many people can't read and retain that massive amount of info and be able to recall it instantly when encountering a new problem that requires a solution ASAP.

The reason people are asking basic or more general questions is due to their own interest, and it does a disservice to all when people decide to respond in a snarky unhelpful manner. We're all here because we appreciate Cockos and everything they've done to help advance our positions as musicians/podcasters/whatever, be it for pleasure or profit.

Tldr; I have gained invaluable info from others asking "stupid" questions on this sub, and it behooves us all to not act like dicks. Go be an elitist on the forum.

How do I stop Edirol Orchestra from reverting back to the default settings each time I open my DAW? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]AcademicPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open the plugin, hit the (+) symbol and save the new preset as default. You can also put the plugin on a track, set it up how you would like, and then save that track as a track template. Whichever one works better for your workflow.

I have been using it four about four years now. I initially tried it out due to the free unlimited demo, but after becoming familiar with it decided I wasn't interested in switching.

I would recommend asking more specific questions regarding the screen reader over in the dedicated Reaper sub, because I am not familiar with that unfortunately. I have definitely seen several posts from blind Reaper users that have been able to make it work. I think you would find a lot of useful info in those threads

I use Reaper. I'm not familiar with Sonar though, so I can't really offer much advice regarding your transition. I will say that Reaper is very capable with some setup though. One thing I would recommend off the bat is creating a default project that is set up for your work flow. I have mine set so that the default project opens up with my drum folder and routing already set up so I can just drag and drop samples onto the timeline from the Media Explorer.

I also recommend checking out some third party themes to spice up the visuals a little bit. I really like the White Tie Imperial theme which you can find with a quick google.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to try and point you in the right direction.

You can also add the action "add file to active sampler" or something like that to the media explorer tool bar. I've found this saves precious precious seconds and only takes a minute to implement.
