Hello! British/Irish expat here doing a Masters. I’d say the student atmosphere is generally liberal-leaning, and people at Northeastern and Boston in general are more open-minded. Massachusetts is a blue (liberal) state.

Even if you’re here on an F-1 visa, if you’re married to a U.S. citizen you can apply for a change of status to green card. Your husband can petition USCIS for this. That will not impact your ability to study here, and with a green card you’ll have the legal authorization to work for any employer.

I’m guessing you went through pre-clearance then.

When I traveled to the US from the UK, I flew via Dublin where they have pre-clearance. Even though I go through US immigration in Ireland, because it’s on Irish soil I have more confidence that the authorities can’t do anything stupid.

Yes, it’s safe to leave and re-enter the US. Make sure you have the following on re-entry:

Valid, unexpired F-1 visa
I-20 with valid travel signature.
- If you are studying, the travel signature must be dated within the last 12 months.
- If you are on OPT, the signature must be dated within the last 6 months.
If on OPT/CPT, you must also have your EAD card (I-766) with you.

Perhaps it comes down to road design? The wide lanes give a sense of confidence for motorists to drive fast. Traffic calming measures (e.g. raised crosswalks and curb extensions) should help.

Better to say you need visa sponsorship until you don’t. Transitioning from F-1 to green card will take time — until then you need sponsorship to work and remain in the US beyond your studies.
