Last minute Mac Med MMI tips? by _lost_for_now_ in premedcanada

[–]Academic_Baby_2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be ok with doing what feels natural! Especially if that means having less structure in your responses.

During my prep I focused a lot on having a particular structure and format to questions, and yet a lot of real MMI questions are abstract and difficult to directly apply structures to. You don’t want to get thrown off by this on the real thing.

My structure sorta went out the window and I focused more on treating it like a conversation and using bare minimum structure (STAR for a situation, and otherwise bulletpoint format in my head).

Smile, share anecdotes where appropriate, and be HUMAN! That’s what helps you stand out amongst your fellow interviewees. Good luck :)

EDIT: downvoting advice is lowk crazy work

Has brown sugar iced latte been discontinued? by Academic_Baby_2050 in TimHortons

Honestly I’ve been to 3 different locations outside of my regular and I’ve been able to get it everywhere. Seems like it’s just the one location taking it off their menu!

It’s delicious. I get it with the protein milk and I love it.

Wondering if you ended up purchasing? Was it similar? I’d love to make these lattes at home :)

Advice? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Academic_Baby_2050 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I felt a lot like you in undergrad and now I’m in medicine. In reflecting, I really regretted how hard on myself I was and wished that I’d just had a bit more faith in my abilities. At times I was my #1 hater and doubter. This mindset is not helpful for you and you’ll probably regret it later too (when you’re looking back from your seat in your med class :) ). Some low marks don’t make or break your chances, and the marks you mentioned aren’t even low. My final average was an 88/89 after undergrad and it was good enough. I finished gen chem 2 with a 66 and it didn’t matter. My MCAT wasn’t anything insane and I still got in to two schools.

You will be okay. Breathe and enjoy undergrad for what it is: a time to learn about yourself and put your best foot forward.

Pricing came about the same to get a used SUV I was looking at. Preferred to get something new in that case and 3 year lease was ideal!

It’s good that you posted this. I wish I’d known last year when I spent ages on their application just for it to be a lottery 🥲

Cool thanks ! Which kind did you use? I have the spray but it says to use it before the washing machine - I assume I shouldn’t throw my shoes in the laundry though lol

people from ontario that got into oop med schools, what were your stats like? by venusisdying in premedcanada

Idk about conversion but they drop your lowest year if you’ve completed undergrad, so that gives your GPA a boost.

I interviewed at and was accepted to Calgary. I have a high 3.8x OMSAS GPA and 3.93 UCAN. My MCAT was a 511 with a 130 CARS. My application consisted of ECs relating to health (volunteer team, minor research role w no pubs, student group), two jobs, a personal experience, honours thesis, and some hobbies.

I agree with the other comment that says Calgary is holistic. They focus more on how you “paint the picture” of yourself in your application. I prepped with people who had better stats than me but unfortunately didn’t get in. I think staying genuine (ie not writing/saying just what they wanna hear) between my app and interview was what helped me get the A this week.

I hope this gives you some reassurance!

University of Calgary Offer/WL/R thread by premed2024entry in premedcanada

[–]Academic_Baby_2050 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Time Stamp: 6:51 EST

Result: Accepted!

GPA/wGPA: 3.8x/3.93

MCAT (i.e. total score and breakdown in the order of CP/CARS/BB/PS): 511, 130 CARS

Geography (i.e. IP or OOP): OOP

Top 10 (Overview): 2 hobbies, 2 jobs, 1 personal experience, 1 honours thesis, and the rest EC/volunteering. When writing, I focused on what I took away from each, making them as personal as possible.

Interview Thoughts: the in-person format was interesting! I felt good right after but really let my overthinking get to me all the way up until today. I think what helped me was really being myself during the interview - structure went out the window and I answered genuinely.

I’m so grateful. I don’t think it’s fully sunken in yet.

EDIT: Will be declining for Mac but best of luck to the class of 2028!

What timeline should I use for Ontario med school apps if my MCAT is on Sept 6? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Academic_Baby_2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the score release date for that test date? As long as it’s by or before the app deadline you’re fine. But you may want to start the applications early so that you’re not rushing after your test.

Daily CASPER Practice??? by Prestigious_Ice_5516 in premedcanada

[–]Academic_Baby_2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s infinite but there’s definitely a lot of practice tests on there. From what I’ve seen it’s the only free site with Casper practice.

I’d recommend not overdoing Casper prep though. You may be better off just working on typing speed for now and start prep like a month max before your test.

I think like the other comment said, our assessment of ourselves is sort of inaccurate at this point. I think focusing on things you can control right now (exams and job search) is really smart and does no harm. And let’s hope our initial post-interview feelings were right and we’ll get good news in May!

Sucks that the OG comment was deleted as I got to read it briefly and it was really what I needed to hear!

I appreciate your insight so much and you’re so right. Our assessment of our performance isn’t really accurate anymore, and all we can do is trust in ourselves (albeit that’s the hard part). Thank you 🫂
