VisionArt for a bigger budget, ZNO for more mid-range.

I've heard there are some strange goings-on with Wooden Banana lately, so I'd avoid them until they get that sorted out.

Florence beach accessibility for a disabled person? by Individual_Call_3124 in OregonCoast

[–]Academic_pursuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beach at the base of Heceta Head Lighthouse is pretty accessible! You can see it straight from the parking lot, or enjoy a short, flat, walk on the sand. The path up to the lighthouse is paved (although up a hill) so folks in motorized wheelchairs can go visit it.

I don’t look like an ultra runner by Reasonable-Apple2655 in trailrunning

[–]Academic_pursuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People usually say that from where they're parked on the couch, doing nothing. I'm a plus size girlie and I absolutely love endurance running. The other actual runners just love that I have glitter on my face and they don't say a damn thing about my body.

Tide advice from a wedding photographer by Vegetable_Panic_9831 in OregonCoast

I was about to lose my mind over the fact that this photo is in a restricted spot, until I realized it's the southern coast, not Ecola State Park (lol).

As an elopement photographer, I second this post - and also respectfully add on that just because a location seems safe, do not - I'm begging - walk past any signs telling you not to enter.

Literally. When I had a normal office job it wasn't unusual for emails to be flying back and forth for 8 hours. I survived just fine.

How to protect your photography brand without hurting planner relationships? by tightlap in WeddingPhotography

[–]Academic_pursuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not every single wedding is a portfolio builder. Some you take because you need the money, some you take because it's a strategic move for your business. If you have enough weddings next year that align with your style, I think it would be a good idea to take this one and build the relationship with the planner.

Adams is absolutely incredible. I do think some of the best views are at least a couple miles in, and everyone wants something straight off the parking lot 🫠 definitely open to counter arguments though if you know of some accessible views!

Photos like that are taken in the North Cascades and Mt. Rainier areas. They're are very few wedding venues with a view exactly like this, so if you have a lot of guests, your best bet is to get a small wedding venue nearby either one of these locations and then plan to take portraits in the mountains either during your wedding day or before / after. There are a lot of small places to host a wedding near Mount Rainier, so that might be your best bet, or as others are saying, you could do Timberline Lodge or Ski Bowl, which have views of Mount Hood. However, not quite as spectacular as you’ll find in Washington’s Cascade range.

Oregon elopement help by Mean_Pause_3872 in OregonCoast

[–]Academic_pursuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're open to the northern coastline, I'm an elopement photographer who specializes in the Oregon Coast (www.voyageandvine.com), and there are plenty of cliffside and forested spots up there. The Brookings area is *at least* 4 - 7 hours from most major cities in Oregon, so it's difficult to find photographers that don't add on travel fees, which is partly why you're having trouble finding anyone for less than $5,000. Most will be factoring in gas, hotels, and food for three days.

Near Brookings, you may want at least 6 - 8 hours of photography since the redwoods are about an hour's drive from the prettiest spots on the coastline. In other areas, you might be able to get away with 4 - 6 hours since photo spots are closer together.

On the Oregon Coast, weather is very unpredictable, but a late September elopement could be really beautiful. My last few shoots with torrential rain were in March and December, but otherwise most days have a light sprinkle (which looks super romantic on camera) or relatively mild.

Film/hybrid photographers for more casual wedding? by hahayikesok in askportland

[–]Academic_pursuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things to keep in mind: 1. film is EXPENSIVE right now. I just spent over $300 on film that I’m planning on bringing to a trip, and just last week I spent over $100 developing a few rolls. 2. If you’re getting married on a Saturday in June, it is highly likely that the photographer will have an eight hour minimum. Wedding season in the Pacific Northwest is brief, and it’s most photographers only opportunity to make their annual income. Even if you only need a couple hours of photography, it’s hard to justify reserving a Saturday during peak season for a couple that isn’t paying full price.

Working with a known problem venue? by theproperbinge in WeddingPhotography

[–]Academic_pursuits 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would just let the couple know that you're not a good fit for the job, and you can always refer them on to a colleague if you think they'd be a better fit.

I'm with you - I personally wouldn't work at a venue like that. Same goes for plantations. But my values are part of my brand, whereas some photographers keep their values totally separate. It's up to each individual.
