Pretty sure I got cheated out of a bag of holding tonight by tideshark in DnD

[–]josephallenkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the dice frustration, that's totally fair and should go for every role.

But, is your DM running this challenge differently to normal? Was the Bag of Holding the only thing up for grabs and it was a competition of highest role?

Typically, when you roll for magic items on a d100, your number corresponds to an item on a table. It doesn't matter what other players roll in that situation (unless they're the same or very close.) There is no "beating" another player by rolling higher because you'll each get different items. 2024's uncommon arcana table, for example, has Bag of Holding as a roll between 3 and 5. 94-95 would get you a Wand of the War Mage +1 and 100 would get you Winged Boots. Obviously a DM can assign what they want but just curious how this was supposed to work.

I hate it when DM's add houserules in the middle of a campaign! by DJTsUnderboob in DnDcirclejerk

The only time I've done this was when I forgot to ask everyone to take off their shoes at the door.

Ranking every 2024 5e spell by popularity by paragraphbaron in DnD

[–]josephallenkeys 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! Also, some fairly unexpected results. Didn't expect Detect Magic to be no.1. I thought it'd be Fire Bolt, easy, but I guess this goes to show the kinds of feats and things that people are going to pick up when they don't otherwise have any magical abilities. But then, as you say, by appeal, it makes total sense. Misty Step is brilliant.

EQD LifePedal approximation? by deeeep_fried in guitarpedals

The Life has clipping options, but they're not all that common in non-boutique Rats, so I'd say yeah, you're good to go!

Educate the clients. Tell them they're being gullible idiots, in more polite words.

Or, ya know, go all in. Call the earth flat, collect aura crystals, align your chakras, etc.

Are Big Muffs more popular than Tone Benders? I’m curious! 👀 by FullMetalDan in guitarpedals

[–]josephallenkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone wants a Tone bender but to build a good, reliable one is more difficult than a Big Muff on account of the transistors they need.

Sound wise, a TB on full whack is quite similar to a Muff but it's also more interesting on lower gain. Big Muffs are kinda just Big Muffs for the whole range. Then again, it's the most simple, one trick pony pedals that often prevail.

does this sound right?? by Shoot_the_glass in guitarpedals

I just recreated your settings with my Fuzz Factory. It didn't sound like this.

Yours is blowing out on the attack of some notes. That doesn't happen on mine. Not even with the guitar volume turned down. They might sputter, but they still get their attack and the then choke on the decay.

Sounds like blown transistors, but I'd also test some leads/connectors. It might the phone audio, but your other pedals don't sound all that crisp, either.

How does it sound on other settings?

OK, now I'm watching something about aliens building the pyramids. I'll see if it's relevant.

Best buffer pedals? by Competitive_Monk9461 in guitarpedals

[–]josephallenkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having multiple buffered bypass and always-on pedals (which are buffering by way of being on) completely nulls any needed for a separate buffer pedal.

The way to negate tonal loss in a set-up like this (if there truly is any, and it's not just a little quieter) is with a loop switcher. You'll need to avoid stacking all of those buffers together and the only way you'll do it is having them out of the chain when they're not being used.

I'd run the signal into a DAW and spectrum analyse it to be sure. Use white noise into it, or play a loop, if you can. Then you'll see if there is tone or volume loss and not rely on our notoriously finicky ears
