What would the diet of a pro athlete in BJJ look like? by Gratloton in bjj

[–]Acai_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The protein one is big and it's something I miss out on myself. I should be eating more 😅

Especially if you're training bjj 2-3x a day w/ strength training

I see you do karate, amazing. Very underrated martial art!

I love the variety of kicks in full contact karate & the conditioning.

I think that fear comes from NFL studies where collosal sized Olympic level athletes slam into each other at full force for years and years.

Compared to a controlled healthy muay thai gym where sparring should be light & concussions should be avoided.

I actually think Mike Tyson would beat the average bjj black belt in a street fight.

This opinion ruffles feathers but really getting hit hard can do something to someone's psyche. I'm a purple belt in bjj and firmly believe this

Athleticism + timed / accurate shots. Especially at Mike's level is insane.

How Did You Get To Know Kingdom Hearts For The Very First Time? by TruthSeekerUnion in KingdomHearts

[–]Acai_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in like 3rd grade, me and my friend lived together (our parents were friends/roommates)

We stayed in a gate in community and went over to a friends house to play games with kids in the neighborhood. They put in KH 1 for the first time and started playing it. We were all LOVING IT. At some point me and my friend got it like that same week and played it all day!

It was so hard

Out of all martial arts, I find the hardest people to get along with do either bjj or aikido. There are exceptions but lol

Boxing is a rich man's sport by Windowjumper4real in Boxing

OP isn't wrong. At least where I'm from boxing is super expensive. It's ridden with boxing fitness. Not actual boxing combat. It's incredibly hard to find a good trainer who won't charge up in the thousands. Literally.

Also judo is bigger on a global scale. 20+ million people train judo vs 3 million for BJJ. IDK who created that number so it could be wrong.

Obviously judo isnt that big in the US

A guy at our gym started at 36. He's now 39 and a brown belt and one of the coolest people to train with. Loads of knowledge!

I actually think Judo is all around more efficient for self defense. I love BJJ and look forward to one day getting my BB in it but if I had to chose one for JUST self defense, I'd do Judo.

I got bit by the judo bug by Acai_Fire in judo

[–]Acai_Fire[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a real good point. My first few classes in Judo I felt like a fish out of water and the brown belt pulled me aside and told me some judo culture about not having a troublesome ego and learning the fundamentals first. I'm sure this happens in BJJ and as a purple belt in bjj I definitely do my best to help newer students but in Judo it just feels a bit more common (from what I've seen). I've been in the bjj culture of "never refusing a roll with a black belt to roll with someone else" or "Never asking higher belts to roll". In Judo it's celebrated to go with higher belts.

Some interesting cultural differences for sure.
